Abstract

Bacterial growth is highly dependent on nutrient sources, energy sources and environmental conditions. Nutrien agar is a medium that is often used for bacterial growth. The use of Nutrien agar requires a high cost, so it is considered to have no economic value. The use of alternative media is cheap, easy to obtain, and has a large source of nutrients for the growth of the required bacteria. White sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas linneaus variety) has a high carbohydrate content to be used as a carbon source for bacterial growth. The purpose of this study was to reveal the potential of white sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas linneaus variety) as an alternative medium for the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This research uses experimental laboratory methods. Staphylococcus aureus growth was observed, and total plate number was calculated on nutrien agar and white sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas linneaus varieties) media. Based on the research results, Nutrien agar is small in size, from 0.1 cm to a yellow colour and round shape. In comparison, the white sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas linneaus variety) has a small size of 0.1 cm, milky white with a round shape. The results of the calculation of the otal plate number from the Nutrien agar medium was 1.6 X (104) CFU. In comparison, the total plate number from the white sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas linneaus variety) medium was 8.9 X (104) CFU. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that white sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas linneaus variety) can be used as an alternative medium for the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Indonesia is famous for its wide variety of fermented traditional foods. The type of traditional fermented food that is often found is cassava tape which is made from carbohydrate food using yeast which belongs to the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) group. This study aims to isolate and characterize LAB as probiotics from fermented cassava tape food. The research methods used were the manufacture of sample suspensions, isolation, and purification of microbes, observation of the morphology of the colonies, gram staining of bacterial isolates, acid resistance test, and bile salt resistance test. Based on the results of research from 4 types of samples with different dilutions, macroscopic tests on all samples had irregular colony edge shapes with 3 types of samples of umbonate colony elevation and 1 spreading sample, as well as 2 samples of umbonate colony shape and 2 others spreading. In the microscopic test, all samples belonged to the Gram-positive bacteria group and were rod-shaped. Meanwhile, in the characteristic test of probiotic isolates against pH and bile salts using MRSB medium with two different pH variations, namely pH 2.5 and pH 3, the results showed that there were deposits on the growth of the isolates where the acidity test stated that LAB had met all the test requirements. probiotics. However, in the bile salt resistance test, all isolates grew more optimally on a medium containing 1% ox bile compared to 5% concentration. Therefore, cassava tape can be used as a source of lactic acid bacteria as probiotics.

Abstract

Cancer is a disease caused by the abnormal growth of body tissue cells that will become cancer cells. Cancer is still one of the world's biggest problems. Cancer causes quite a large number of deaths, in 2018 there were 17 million cases of cancer which caused 9.5 million deaths of the world's population due to cancer. Indonesia is listed as a country that has the richest mangrove species in the world. Mangrove plants have many benefits for health, one of which is as an anticancer. The purpose of writing this literature review is to provide information and an overview of the content of secondary metabolites and bioactive compounds contained in mangrove plants, as well as to determine the potential of mangrove plants as anticancer agents. In the preparation of this literature review, a secondary research method without specific guidelines in writing (non-systematic review) was used, namely the narrative review approach method. This is done by collecting data related to research topics from various electronic and non-electronic libraries. Based on several research results, it is known that mangrove plant extracts have cytotoxic activity against myeloma cancer cells with an IC50 of 508.19 g/mL. The results of the isolation of squalene compounds have an effect as an anticancer in the stomach with potential cytotoxic activity against MCF-7 cancer cells with IC50 values ​​of 644.008 and 595.164μg/mL, respectively. So it's a shame if we don't explore this potential and use it to the fullest for the common good. Many universities and research institutes have explored various plants as sources of medicine but have not looked at the benefits of mangroves.

Abstract

Research on the acute toxicity test of the ethanol extract of kaik-kaik (Uncaria cordata (Lour) Merr) leaves has been carried out on male white mice (Mus musculus L.). This study aims to determine the effects of acute and delayed toxicity of the ethanol extract of kaik- kaik root (Uncaria cordata (Lour) Merr) leaves by determining the LD50 value. The experimental animals were divided into 4 groups, namely the negative control group (NaCMC), and the ethanol extract group of kaik-kaik root leaves with doses of 200, 1000, and 5000 mg / KgBB. The results showed that the LD50 value was> 5000 mg / kg BW and was included in the practical non-toxic category. In the observation, there were no tremors, seizures, salivation, diarrhea, lethargy, weakness, sleep, and coma in each experimental animal.

Abstract

Study of formulation of sunscreen cream with ethanolic extract of red rice bran (Oryza sativa L) and determining the SPF value in vitro using a UV spectrophotometer has been carried out. Ethanol extract of red rice bran has been shown antioxidant activity. Determining the SPF value due to determine the ability of the red rice bran ethanol extract to protect the skin from UV radiation. Ethanol extract of red rice bran was formulated in the form of a cream type o/w of F1 and F2 containing extract concentrations of 5% and 10%, respectively. Based on the research conducted, it was found that F2 had a higher SPF value of 13,098 than F1 of 11,861. Based on the SPF value generated from the formula, this study showed that the sunscreen cream preparation of red rice bran extract can protect the skin from UV radiation maximally for 110-130 minutes.

Abstract

Diabetes is a disease characterized by increased levels of glucose in the blood that occur due to a lack of insulin production or the cessation of insulin production in the body. Sidaguri herb (Sida Rhombifolia) is known to have antidiabetic activity. This study was conducted to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of the ethanolic extract of the leaves and stems of sidaguri (Sida rhombifolia) in animal of type 2 diabetes model and to find out which part is the most effective as antidiabetic. This research method is an in vivo experimental study. Mice were divided into 9 groups, that is negative control group, positive control group, Glibenclamide 0.65 mg/KgBW, sidaguri leaf extract at a dose of 3.5; 7; and 14 mg/KgBW, as well as sidaguri stem extract at a dose of 3.5; 7; and 14 mg/KgBW. The test was carried out curatively, the test animals except negative controls were given induction of alloxan monohydrate 80 mg/KgBW via the intravenous route, then after 3 days post-induction, fasting blood glucose levels were checked. The treatment was continued by giving therapy for 14 days via the oral route. The test parameters in this study were the measurement of blood glucose levels on days 0, 7, and 14, and pancreatic histopathology was also performed. The test results show that was found that the extract that gave the best antidiabetic effect was the ethanolic extract of sidaguri leaves at a dose of 14 mg/KgBW but had not been able to fully improve the condition of the pancreatic cells

Abstract

Public warning issued by BPOM in 2017 that 39 traditional medicines were found to contain BKO and in 2018 there were 7 traditional medicines containing BKO. One of BPOM's efforts in monitoring and protecting consumers against the circulation of unlicensed traditional medicines is by presenting the CEK Klik application on Android. This study aims to determine the level of public knowledge about the CEKklik application. This study is an observational study with a descriptive design with concurrent data collection methods through filling out online questionnaires. The research population, namely the Kubang Jaya Kampar community, amounted to 37031. The sampling technique was non-probability sampling with purposive sampling method. The number of samples was 160 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that people who have good knowledge are 24.4%, sufficient knowledge is 47.5%, and less knowledge is 28.1%. It can be concluded that most people still do not know about the CEK CLICK application

Abstract

The content in lemongrass leaves essential oil (Cymbopogon citratus) has a neurobehavioral effect, so lemongrass leaves essential oil can be useful as aromatherapy. The stick balm form as an innovation of aromatherapy form is required to increase the user’s comfort and ease of application of the product. The aim of this study is to determine the optimum formula and physical properties of lemongrass essential oil stick balm form with additive variations of cera alba and lanolin. Eight stick balm formula designs were determined by using SLD (Simplex Lattice Design), method with Design Expert 11 software, and made by using melting method. The stick balm forms were tested for the physical properties such as pH test, melting point test, and adhesion test. The response to the physical properties test was processed by using Design Expert 11 software to obtain optimal formula. The optimal form of stick balm was tested for physical, organoleptic, and homogeneity properties. The results of the physical properties test of optimal formula were verified by using one sample t-test method with SPSS software. The results of the optimization of the formula were 5,310% of lanolin and 11,690% of cera alba. The stick balm forms were bright yellow in color, have a characteristic smell of lemongrass essential oil, semi-solid consistency, homogeneous mixed materials, pH level of 5,63±0,06, melting point of 44,5±0,5oC, and adhesion tests of 2,437±0,106 seconds, with the result that, the optimum formula of stick balm met requirements for the physical properties. The physical properties of the optimal formula are not significantly different from the predictions in the Design Expert 11 application.

Abstract

Simpur air is one of plant that has been using as traditional medicine for treating several diseases. Some studies on its chemical constituents and biological activities of this species have been published. However, chemical constituents and antioxidant activity of this plant which is Riau origin has not been reported before. This study aims to determine the total of phenolic and flavonoid content as well as its antioxidant activity of methanol extracts of roots, leaves and flowers of simpur air. Determination of total of phenolic and flavonoid content was performed by spectrophotometric method using Folin Ciocalteu and AlCl3 as reagents, respectively. Whereas, its antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH method. The results showed that methanol extracts of its roots afforded the highest total of phenolic and flavonoid content and also its antioxidant activity. The total of phenolic content of methanol extracts of its roots of 428.131 GAE/mg extract; its total of flavonoid content of 766.164 QE/mg extract; as for its antioxidant activity gave IC50 value of 3.852 µg/ml.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Hipertensi merupakan penyakit yang memiliki angka prevalensi yang tinggi. Hipertensi dapat distabilkan dengan melakukan pola hidup yang sehat dan menggunakan obat anti hipertensi. Penggunaan obat antihipertensi diperlukan kepatuhan agar hipertensi dapat terkontrol. Kepatuhan pasien dalam melaksanakan pengobatan harus dipertahankan dalam jangka waktu yang lama, oleh sebab itu pasien harus memiliki pengetahuan yang baik dan sikap yang positif terhadap hipertensi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan sikap dan pengetahuan pasien hipertensi terhadap kepatuhan peggunaan obat anti hipertensidi Rumah Sakit Islam Purwodadi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode sensus dengan rancangan Cross Sectional. Desain ini digunakan untuk meneliti suatu kejadian dalam waktu yang bersamaan atau dalam sekali waktu. Teknik sampling dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode sensus. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan berupa kuesioner. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis univariat dan bivariat. Dari analisis univariat didapatkan hasil 65% responden memiliki sikap yang baik, 70% responden memiliki tingkat pengetahuan yang baik, serta 55% responden memiliki kepatuhan minum obat antihipertesi yang tinggi. Pada analisis bivariat dengan uji statistik Chi Squareα < 0,05 didapatkan hasil bahwa ada hubungan antara sikap dan kepatuhan minum obat antihipertensi (p value= 0,005), dan terdapat hubungan antara tingkat pengetahuan dan kepatuhan minum obat antihipertensi di Rumah Sakit Islam Purwodadi (p value = 0,021).
