Abstract

Introduction: The Apgar Score assessment is carried out after the baby is born to assess the baby’s condition and determine the initial treatment measures to be taken. The aim of this research is to get a description of the treatment in newborns based on the Apgar score at the Makassar City Hospital. The sample was obtained as many as 256 babies born at the Makassar City Hospital. Method: This study used the quantitative design with descriptive methods. The instrument used are observation sheet based on data from medical records. Result: In this study, the results showed that babies born with an Apgar score of 7-10 at 1st minute did not require oxygen assistance (83,2%), and suctioning of the mucus was performed which generally used a bulb syringe (84%), all newborns with an Apgar score of 7-10 no resuscitation was performed. Conclusion: Our results suggest that newborns with an Apgar score of 0-3 undergo routine treatment such as loan suction using a suction cannula, provide positive pressure ventilation using a t-piece resuscitator and perform resuscitation measures. However it is important to monitor oxygen saturation before administering oxygen therapy. It is expected that the nurse/midwife will give treatment based on SOP and conform to the Apgar Score. For future researchers to examine the long-term effects of oxygen use in infants.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that increase blood glucose owing to the body’s inability to make or use insulin properly. Chronic hyperglycemia is a significant issue for those with diabetes mellitus since it can result in a variety of problems. Controlling blood sugar is one of the therapies to prevent, inhibit and decrease diabetes-related problems. Consuming Saffron is a non-pharmacological way to enhance blood glucose management. Saffron include Crocins, Picrocrocin, and Safranal, all of which have hypoglycemic properties, improve insulin sensitivity, and help manage blood glucose. The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of Saffron (Crocus Sativus) on person with type 2 diabetes mellitus in terms of blood glucose control. Method: The research employed a quasi experimental approach, comprising a Pre-and post-test with control. Purposive sampling was used to split 54 respondents into two groups; 27 intervention groups and 27 control groups. The research was conducted in RW 09 Kelurahan Kebayoran Lama Utara in Jakarta Selatan. The paired T Test is applied for statistical analysis. Result: The results of this study indicated that Saffron had a substantial effect on blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the intervention group with a P-value 0,005 (P value < 0,05). Conclusion: Saffron can be used as a non-pharmacological treatment to help control blood glucose levels and avoid diabetic complications.

Abstract

Introduction: One of the psychological responses encountered by nurses who treat COVID-19 patients is anxiety. The anxiety is caused by several factors including feelings of unsupported, worrying excessively about health, fear of carrying the infection and transmitting it to family members or others, a heavy workload, social stigmatization, feeling insecure for providing care. Moreover, this psychological problem caused low quality of health services for patients. Therefore, to reduce the anxiety of nurses who took care for Covid-19 patients, anxiety management using progressive muscle relaxation was needed. The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of progressive muscle relaxation on the level of anxiety in nurses caring for patients with Covid-19. Method: The research design used in this study was quasi-experimental, namely pre-test and post-test with control group design with purposive sampling technique. The number of samples is 52 nurses. The research instrument used the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SRAS) questionnaire. The paired T Test is applied for statistical analysis. Result: the result of this study indicated that progressive muscle relaxation had a substantial effect on the level anxiety in nurses caring for patients with Covid-19 in the intervention group with a P-value 0.000 (P value < 0,005). Conclusion: Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is a complementary therapy that can be done independently by nurses and is effective in reducing anxiety.

Abstract

Introduction: The large number of patients visiting the emergency department requires triage system. The implementation of triage really requires the skills possessed by nurses who have good knowledge and positive perceptions about triage. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge and perceptions of nurses with triage skills on nurses in the Emergency Department of RSUP Dr. M. Djamil, Padang. Method: This study is a quantitative study with an analytical descriptive type using cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique used convenience sampling technique with the criteria of emergency department nurses who work in the triage area with respondent participated as 34 nurses. Data collection using instruments, as knowledge questionnaire, perception questionnaire, and TSQ (Triage Skills Questionnaire). Result: There is a relationship between knowledge and triage skills in nurses with p value 0,015 and no relationship between nurses’ perceptions and triage skills with p value 0,063. Conclusion: Good knowledge for nurses can help nurses in carrying out triage actions properly so that they motivate nurses to categorize patients correctly based on the level of emergency. Training, seminar or long-life learning on triage will be able to assist nurses in improving nurses triage skills in the emergency department.

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU) is a complication often experienced by patients with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Evidence-based prevention and treatment in DM patients who are at risk of DFU can reduce the global economic burden. Nurses' knowledge plays an important role in screening, prevention, and proper treatment of DFU. This review identifies evidence of nurses' knowledge about the prevention and treatment of DFU and identify factors related to nurses' knowledge. Method: The study applied an integrative review design. The relevant literature were searched from PubMed, CINAHL (EBSCO), Wiley Online Library, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest. The inclusion criteria was articles published in English, peer-reviewed articles, and journals between January 2016 and May 2021, by using keywords; “nurs*”, “diabetic foot*” “knowledge”, "awareness" and "perception". Result: There are 10 articles met the inclusion criteria and eligible to review. Nurses have low knowledge about diabetic foot care and also have limited knowledge about the characteristics and complications of DFU. Factors related to nurses' knowledge about DFU prevention and treatment; training, educational qualifications, work experience, educational institutions, and age. Conclusion: This review revealed that nurses experienced a significant knowledge deficit in several aspects regarding the prevention and treatment of DFU. So that new effective education and training must be developed to address the knowledge gap, one of which is the online training method utilizing telenursing-based electronic learning (e-learning).
