Abstract

Potato production is increasingly encountered with drought stress, which is one of the factors in affecting agricultural yields as a result of the dynamics of global climate change and the agricultural environment. Efforts to improve the ability of potatoes to adapt with drought stress could be done through plant breeding approaches and a combination of various agronomic practices. This review aims to describe the application of agronomic action strategies that can be used to improve the ability of potatoes to adapt to drought conditions. Various agronomic practices  can be applied to mitigate the stressful potatoes to have maximum production grown under drought conditions. These mitigations include the use of drought tolerant varieties, selection of planting material, spacing, selection of the right planting time, providing shade, using organic and inorganic mulch, agricultural land management, weed and pest controls, cropping systems, row-planting orientations, using organic fertilizers and applying beneficial microorganisms.

Abstract

Swamp land, especially shallow lowland swamps, has great potential and also has strategic value for the development of agricultural businesses, especially rice, to encourage the realization of a sustainable food self-sufficiency program. Fluctuations in water levels, which limit the application of fertilizer by spreading, can be reduced by the foliar fertilization method.  This research aims to evaluate the application of NPK liquid fertilizer on the growth performance and yield of the UBPR-6 rice line in shallow swampy areas. The experiment was carried out September 2022-January 2023 in shallow swampland at the Faculty of Agriculture, Bengkulu University. Using a Divided Plot design which places the NPK liquid fertilizer concentration (3.%, 6%, 9% and 12% as the main plot and application frequency (1, 2 and 3 times) as a subplot, with 3 replications. The results showed that high The plants were not affected by the application of liquid NPK fertilizer, but flowering accelerated along with increasing the concentration and frequency of fertilizer application. A concentration of 9% gave the best results with a yield of 3,505 kg per plot (6.25m2) or equivalent to 4.2 tons per hectare.

Abstract

One effort that can be made to increase the quantity and quality of Chinese cabbage is by using a hydroponic cultivation system. The hydroponic cultivation system can maintain many plants in limited land conditions. However, the high economic cost of hydroponic nutrients necessitates the utilization of organic materials. One organic material that can be utilized as a nutrient source is coffee fruit peel and papaya peel. This study aims to obtain the effectiveness of utilizing coffee peel and papaya peel eco-enzymes as a nutrient source for cultivating Chinese cabbage using the floating raft system hydroponics. The experimental design that will be used in this study is a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with factorial factors, namely the type of nutrient and variety of Chinese cabbage which is repeated 3 times. The results of the study showed that the best treatment was indicated by the appearance of the application of eco-enzymes from coffee peel and papaya peel as a substitute nutrient source in hydroponics affecting various growth characteristics of Chinese cabbage plants. Both the type of fertilizer, plant variety, and the interaction between the two had a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width, and fresh weight of Chinese cabbage plants.
