Abstract

This study addresses the challenges of maintaining local traditions amidst modernization, focusing on the Porridge Almsgiving tradition in Terusan Market. The research aims to describe the practice and analyze the religious values embedded as a manifestation of community gratitude before the rice harvest. A qualitative methodology using a literature review was employed, drawing data from scientific journals, news articles, and relevant books. The results indicate that this generational tradition, involving seven hamlets, is performed during the rice growth phase as a spiritual effort to seek blessings and safety. The community interprets the ritual as an expression of gratitude to God, fostering social solidarity through values of sincerity and togetherness. Despite modernization, the tradition persists through strong local government support and strategic revitalization efforts, such as integrating the tradition into educational institutions through creative dance performances.

Abstract

Learning of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) in elementary schools is often conducted through conventional instruction that mainly emphasizes theoretical explanations. As a result, the connection between the concepts taught and students’ real-life experiences is not always clearly established, which can limit students’ conceptual understanding and engagement in the learning process. Therefore, an instructional approach that links learning materials with authentic contexts is needed. This study aims to describe the implementation of contextual-based IPAS learning in upper elementary classes and to examine its influence on students’ learning engagement and conceptual understanding. The research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method conducted in an upper-grade class of a public elementary school. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and several students, and documentation of instructional materials. The collected data were analyzed using an interactive analysis technique consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that contextual-based IPAS learning was implemented by connecting learning content with students’ daily experiences, utilizing the surrounding environment as a learning resource, and engaging students in discussion and problem-solving activities. This approach encouraged more active participation, fostered critical thinking, and supported students in developing a deeper and more meaningful understanding of IPAS concepts that can be applied in everyday life.

Abstract

The School Literacy Movement (GLS) in elementary schools is a strategic program aimed at fostering a literacy culture and increasing students’ interest and engagement in reading and writing activities at the elementary school level. However, in practice, students’ level of enthusiasm in participating in the GLS program still varies and has not been fully optimal. This study aims to analyze the level of enthusiasm of elementary school students in participating in the School Literacy Movement (GLS). This research employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey design. The research subjects were 30 fourth-grade students of SDN 7 Sukamentri. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire with a Likert scale developed based on indicators of enthusiasm, including response, attention, concentration, willingness, and awareness to be involved. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics through percentage techniques and categorization. The results showed that 53% of students were in the high enthusiasm category, 43% in the moderate category, and 4% in the low category. These findings indicate that, in general, students have demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm in participating in the GLS program, particularly in the 15-minute reading activity before lessons. Nevertheless, some students still showed moderate and low levels of enthusiasm, indicating the need for improved consistency in program implementation, greater variation in literacy activities, and more optimal teacher guidance. Thus, the GLS program has been proven to play a positive role in developing a literacy culture in elementary schools.

Abstract

In the face of digital challenges rife with misinformation and fake news, Pancasila education is crucial in helping students develop their character. However, its use in the classroom often prioritizes knowledge over developing students' moral resilience. The purpose of this study is to examine how Pancasila education is used to help eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Surakarta City build resilient character in the face of lies in the digital age. This research employed a case study and qualitative methodology. Semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and documentation were used to collect data, which was then evaluated interactively using a triangulation approach to ensure data accuracy. According to the research findings, Pancasila education is implemented holistically through improvements in the curriculum, school culture, school policies, and learning that are relevant to contemporary situations. Students' ability to verify information, control their emotions, and understand the social impact before sharing knowledge is an indicator of their resilience. In summary, Pancasila education provides a flexible framework and moral foundation for digital citizenship. It is recommended that schools and families continue to collaborate to improve the integration of digital literacy.
