Abstract

This study examines gender representation in the English for Nusantara Grade VII textbook under the Merdeka Curriculum. The research was conducted to identify how male and female characters are represented in terms of visibility, roles, and activities, and to determine the dominant patterns of gender representation in the textbook. A descriptive qualitative design with directed qualitative content analysis was applied. The data consisted of textual and visual representations of male and female characters in Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and Chapter 3 of the textbook. The coding categories were adapted from previous gender representation studies and covered male and female visibility, domestic and public roles, and active and passive activities. The findings show that gender visibility is relatively balanced, with male characters appearing 116 times and female characters 108 times. Domestic roles appear more frequently than public roles, with 39 male and 43 female domestic-role representations, while public roles appear only 1 time for males and 2 times for females. Active activities dominate the textbook, appearing 101 times for males and 98 times for females, while passive activities remain rare. These findings indicate that the textbook presents both progress and limitation: it provides relatively balanced visibility and activity representation, yet public-role representation remains limited.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether Experiential Social Media Post Simulation had a significant effect on the writing skills of eleventh-grade students at MA Mu'allimat NWDI Kelayu in the 2025/2026 academic year. The study employed a pre-experimental one-group pre-test and post-test design. The sample consisted of 20 eleventh-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using writing tests and assessed with an analytical scoring rubric covering content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-gain analysis, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the paired-sample t-test. The results showed that the mean score increased from 56.80 in the pre-test to 65.20 in the post-test. The paired-sample t-test produced a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of less than 0.001, indicating a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores. However, the average N-gain score was 0.196, categorized as low, indicating limited improvement in students' writing skills. Among the five writing components, content showed the greatest improvement, while mechanics showed the least. Therefore, Experiential Social Media Post Simulation was associated with improved students' writing scores, although the level of improvement remained low based on the N-gain analysis.

Abstract

The implementation of learning evaluation that is still carried out conventionally tends to make students less interested and less active during the learning process. This condition also affects the implementation of evaluations that require a relatively longer time and provide less engaging learning experiences for students. This study aimed to determine the feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness of a Wordwall-based evaluation tool on the topic of characteristics of living things for third-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Seulalah. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model consisting of Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The research subjects consisted of 23 third-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Seulalah. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and learning outcome tests. The results indicated that the developed Wordwall-based evaluation tool met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The results of expert validation I increased from 47% to 56% and reached the highly feasible category at the final stage, while expert validation II increased from 77% to 97% with a highly feasible category. The practicality results obtained a percentage of 85% from teachers and 83.43% from students. In addition, the effectiveness results showed an increase in the average pre-test score from 52.17 to 90 in the post-test. Therefore, the Wordwall-based evaluation tool can be used as an alternative learning evaluation tool that supports improving student learning outcomes. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of academic supervision and work discipline on teacher performance through organizational commitment as a mediating variable at SMP Negeri 2 Sosopan. This research employed a quantitative approach with an explanatory design. The population consisted of 54 teachers, and all were selected as respondents using the total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.1. The results indicate that academic supervision and work discipline have a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment. Organizational commitment also has a positive and significant effect on teacher performance. However, academic supervision and work discipline do not significantly affect teacher performance directly. Furthermore, organizational commitment significantly mediates the relationship between academic supervision and work discipline and teacher performance. These findings imply that strengthening teachers' organizational commitment is essential to optimize the impact of academic supervision and work discipline on improving teacher performance.

Abstract

Communication problems often occur in school-level English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms. Students may experience difficulties when speaking, answering teachers’ questions, participating in discussions, delivering short presentations, or interacting with peers in English. These difficulties are not only related to vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation, but also influenced by speaking anxiety, self-confidence, classroom atmosphere, peer support, and the teacher’s role. This article aims to synthesize previous research findings on students’ responses to communication problems in school-level EFL classrooms. Using a narrative literature review approach, this article examines theoretical books and research articles relevant to communication strategies, speaking anxiety, willingness to communicate, and oral communication barriers in EFL contexts. The synthesis shows that students’ responses can be understood through four main patterns: responses to maintain communication, avoidance responses, responses influenced by anxiety, and responses shaped by classroom support. This review argues that silence, long pauses, first-language use, and short answers do not necessarily indicate students’ inability. These responses may reflect language barriers, affective pressure, limited strategic competence, or the need for a more supportive speaking environment. The findings imply the importance of speaking instruction that is safe, gradual, communicative, and able to provide students with explicit opportunities to develop and use communication strategies consciously.
