Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Montessori method in developing the social-emotional development of children aged 1-4 years at Pijar Pesona Anak Day Care Kekalik, Mataram, including its impacts and supporting and inhibiting factors. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained from the head of the institution, teachers, and 30 children through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Data validity was tested through extended observation and triangulation. The results showed that the Montessori method was implemented through a prepared learning environment, concrete and sensory materials, the teacher’s role as a facilitator, independent and gradual learning, multilevel classes, and self-discipline habituation. This method positively affected children’s social-emotional development, as shown by improved cooperation, interaction, emotional expression, self-regulation, independence, responsibility, and learning according to developmental stages. Supporting factors included institutional support, an adjusted learning environment, and teachers’ roles. Inhibiting factors included limited Montessori materials, although approximately 90% had been fulfilled and the remaining limitations were addressed through alternative tools, unstable children’s emotions, and teachers’ understanding that still needed improvement through regular training. Therefore, the Montessori method can support early childhood social-emotional development optimally.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has made online games one of the most popular forms of entertainment among elementary school children. This condition raises concerns because a high intensity of online gaming may affect students' self-control, which plays an important role in character development, discipline, and academic achievement. This study aimed to determine the level of online gaming intensity, the level of students' self-control, and the effect of online gaming intensity on the self-control of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Gunung Batu. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 39 students. Data were collected through observation, closed-ended questionnaires, and documentation, and were analyzed using normality, linearity, heteroscedasticity, simple linear regression, and coefficient of determination tests. The results showed that online gaming intensity had a significant effect on students' self-control (Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05), contributing 50.4% to the variation in self-control. It can be concluded that online gaming intensity is one of the factors influencing students' self-control. These findings may serve as a reference for schools and parents in monitoring children's online gaming activities. Future studies are recommended to examine other factors that may influence students' self-control.

Abstract

This study was motivated by students' difficulties in grasping abstract routing concepts. The learning process, which remains dominated by standard presentation media and constrained by limited instructional time, hinders students' ability to visualize routing processes. This study aimed to develop valid and practical augmented reality learning media for teaching routing concepts. It employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model, comprising the Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. A practicality test was conducted with 23 students from the Educational Technology study program. Data collection instruments included validation sheets for subject matter experts and media experts, as well as a practicality questionnaire. The results indicate that the developed augmented reality learning media achieved a 96% validation score from the subject matter expert (categorized as "highly valid"), while media experts I and II awarded scores of 98% and 96%, respectively (also categorized as "highly valid"). Furthermore, the practicality test yielded a score of 87.5%, placing it in the "highly practical" category. Based on these findings, it is concluded that the augmented reality learning media is both valid and practical for use in the learning process.

Abstract

This study investigates the types and functions of illocutionary speech acts found in the English-dubbed dialogue of the anime Cowboy Bebop (1998), directed by Shinichiro Watanabe. Framed within pragmatics and grounded in the speech act theories of Austin (1962) and Searle (1969, 1979), the research addresses two questions: what types of speech acts appear in the English dialogue of the anime, and what communicative functions each type performs. A qualitative content-analysis design was employed. Data were collected by watching the first eleven episodes of the series, transcribing the English dialogue of the four main characters (Spike Spiegel, Jet Black, Faye Valentine, and Edward), and coding each utterance according to Searle's five categories of illocutionary acts: assertive, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The analysis identified 155 illocutionary utterances distributed as follows: directive (46), assertive (39), expressive (28), commissive (25), and declarative (17). A further functional analysis of 281 coded instances showed that assertive utterances were mainly used for asserting a belief, stating a fact, and concluding; directive utterances for requesting, commanding, and ordering; commissive utterances for offering, promising, and vowing; expressive utterances for apologizing, thanking, and congratulating; and declarative utterances for resigning and establishing a state. The findings confirm that directive and assertive acts dominate the characters' interaction, reflecting the high-stakes, action-oriented world of bounty hunting portrayed in the series, while expressive and commissive acts humanize the characters' relationships. The study contributes to pragmatic research on English-dubbed anime and offers pedagogical implications for using anime dialogue as authentic material in English language teaching.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the Number Heads Together (NHT) cooperative learning model on students’ critical thinking skills in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS). The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 54 third-grade students of SD Negeri Joglo Surakarta, divided into an experimental class and a control class with 27 students each. Data were collected through essay tests, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, independent sample t-test, and N-Gain tests. The results showed that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The average posttest score of the experimental class was higher than that of the control class. The t-test result showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant effect of the NHT learning model on students’ critical thinking skills. The N-Gain score of the experimental class was 0.75 (75.69%) in the high category, while the control class obtained 0.33 (33.03%) in the low category. Therefore, the Number Heads Together learning model is effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills in IPAS learning.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the movements, steps, and techniques of Silek Harimau Bandarolobiah in Kampung Paraman, Pasaman Regency, as an effort to support the existence and preservation of Minangkabau traditional martial arts (Silek). The study was motivated by the declining interest of younger generations in traditional martial arts, an unoptimized coaching system, and the absence of systematic documentation of the movements, steps, and techniques of Silek Harimau Bandarolobiah as a local cultural heritage. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, conducted in Kampung Paraman, Nagari Cubadak Timur, Pasaman Regency. Data were collected through passive participant observation, semi-structured interviews with four informants (a Tuo Silek, the Wali Nagari, a martial arts practitioner, and a customary leader), and documentation, then analyzed using Spradley's domain, taxonomic, componential, and thematic analysis, with validity tested through source and method triangulation. The results show that Silek Harimau Bandarolobiah features distinctive tiger-inspired movements, including a low stance (duduak randah), dynamic body movements (gelek, agah, and tiger mimicry), defensive techniques (tangkok and elakan berisi), and offensive techniques (sapu, guntiang, and caka), all grounded in the philosophy of adat basandi syarak, syarak basandi Kitabullah. Systematic documentation is concluded to be a strategic step for the sustainable preservation of this martial art.
