Abstract

This study investigates how learning through games and narrative affects Year 5 students' mathematical literacy and numeracy skills. The study's goal is to solve Indonesia's poor performance in international math literacy examinations by testing new teaching approaches. The study included three groups: one using games, one using narrative, and one combining the two modalities. Data were gathered through teacher interviews, observations, and validated numeracy literacy assessments. These results were examined utilizing quantitative quasi-experimental procedures, using pretest-posttest control groups. The findings show that games and storytelling greatly improve pupils' arithmetic literacy and numeracy when compared to traditional methods. The combined strategy yielded the best improvement, improving problem-solving and conceptual knowledge through interactive, contextualized learning, which increases motivation and critical thinking skills. The study concludes that incorporating games and storytelling effectively promotes mathematical comprehension, and teachers are encouraged to use these strategies to create more engaging and relevant math learning environments for primary school students, better preparing them for future academic challenges.

Abstract

In Indonesia’s rapidly evolving distance learning landscape, digital literacy has become a critical competency for ensuring academic quality and ethical online engagement. However, existing assessments often focus narrowly on technical skills, overlooking behavioral and ethical dimensions that are equally essential in digital environments. This study aims to identify the key factors influencing digital literacy among students in Indonesia's distance learning environment, focusing on Universitas Terbuka. Utilizing a Random Forest algorithm, the research involves data preprocessing, model development and evaluation, and feature importance analysis to determine the most influential predictors. The findings reveal that digital ethics and behavioral aspects-such as academic integrity, proper citation practices, and responsible social media conduct- are the strongest indicators of digital literacy, whereas technical proficiency in e-learning platforms plays a less dominant role. This study's novel use of Machine Learning offers a methodological contribution to the assessment of digital literacy in educational settings. Based on these insights, the paper recommends a holistic approach to digital literacy education at Universitas Terbuka, advocating for programs that integrate technical training with robust digital ethics instruction, including awareness of citation, plagiarism, communication etiquette, privacy, and responsible information dissemination.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' problem-solving abilities in physics related to global warming materials. The research employed a mixed-method approach combining quantitative test analysis and qualitative interviews. A total of 60 students from class X at a public high school in Samarinda city were selected using purposive sampling, considering their representativeness of the school's academic characteristics. The instrument used was a written test consisting of 10 multiple-choice questions and 5 essay questions, which had previously been validated by two physics education. The results showed that most students' problem-solving abilities were categorized as low to moderate. Specifically, 5 students were in the very low category, 7 in the low category, 7 in the sufficient category, and 7 in the moderate category. The average test score was 63.9, with a minimum score of 53.3 and a maximum score of 75.3. Furthermore, interviews with six selected students representing each ability level revealed that students in the low category had difficulty connecting physics concepts with real-world environmental issues, while students in the moderate category were able to identify problems but struggled to develop structured problem-solving strategies. The findings indicate that physics learning still requires improvement, especially in developing students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). Therefore, physics instruction should be directed towards more applicable and contextual learning strategies, such as problem-based learning (PBL) and inquiry-based approaches, to help students meaningfully connect physics concepts with real environmental phenomena like global warming.

Abstract

The background of this research is based on the importance of integrating local wisdom in science learning to make it more contextual and meaningful. The formulation of the research problem includes how to develop a module, how the module's feasibility is based on validation by media experts and material experts, and how students and teachers respond to the module. This research aims to develop an ethnoscience-based science learning module by highlighting the local potential of the brick center in Prambatan, Kaliwungu, Kudus as a learning context on the material of substance form change, to determine the feasibility of the module based on validation by media experts and material experts, and to determine students and teachers responses to the module. The method used is research and development (Research and Development) with a 4D model (define, design, develop, disseminate), but this research is only carried out until the development stage due to time constraints. The module development process includes the needs analysis stage, module design, validation by media experts and material experts, revision of validator input, and limited trials for grade VII D students at MTs NU Nurul Huda Kedungdowo Kaliwungu Kudus. The research population is all grade VII students at MTs NU Nurul Huda which totals 270 students. The sampling technique used random sampling by selecting 22 students as limited trial subjects. Data analysis uses qualitative descriptive and uses the Content Validity Index (CVI) technique which is then calculated using the Gregory validity technique which shows a high level of validity with scores of 0.70 (media) and 0.60 (material) respectively. The limited trial involved 22 students and one science teacher with student response results showing a very high level of feasibility (average 88.00%) and the response of science teachers showing a very high level of feasibility (average 97.5%). This module succeeds in integrating the values of local wisdom into science learning so that it can strengthen the relationship between science and daily life.

Abstract

The decline in student enrollment at Islamic educational institutions has become a serious challenge in maintaining both their existence and educational quality, including at SMP Qur’an As-Salam Pekanbaru. This condition requires structured, systematic, and adaptive marketing management that responds to social, cultural, and technological developments. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the implementation of marketing management based on the Planning, Organizing, Actuating, and Controlling (POAC) framework in enhancing the attractiveness and image of the institution. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The research subjects consisted of school leaders, administrators, teachers, and parents who were actively involved in marketing strategies. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while maintaining validity through source and method triangulation. The results of the study indicate that marketing planning at SMP Qur’an As-Salam is designed based on its Qur’anic vision and mission, emphasizing Islamic character education, Qur’an memorization, and academic quality. In terms of organizing, the institution established a special team responsible for promotional activities, both conventional and digital. The implementation of strategies combined direct promotion (social gatherings, brochures, banners, community activities) with digital promotion (social media, websites, and educational content). Evaluation or controlling was conducted periodically through monthly and annual meetings, which assessed the effectiveness of promotional media, enrollment levels, and community satisfaction. Although the POAC-based strategy has proven effective in improving the school’s image and community interest, its effectiveness is reflected in the increasing number of inquiries and student registrations, higher community participation in school activities, and more positive feedback from parents and stakeholders. the study also found limitations, including weak digital media management, lack of innovation in promotional content, and limited promotional facilities. These factors reduce the institution’s competitiveness amid the increasingly intense landscape of Islamic education. In conclusion, the application of POAC-based marketing management at SMP Qur’an As-Salam has been effective in strengthening institutional identity despite the decline in enrollment. However, improvements are still needed in digital marketing, market research, and external collaboration. This study recommends continuous innovation, training in digital media management, and collaborative strategies with stakeholders to expand outreach and ensure the sustainability of Islamic educational institutions in the modern era.
