Abstract

Abstract

Daily routine activities exposed to sunlight, air pollution, changes in air humidity and ambient temperature, the use of cleansing soap, and even activities using air conditioning can cause a decrease in skin moisture. This study aimed to formulate a foot crack cream preparation using a combination of hyaluronic acid and turmeric extract that met the requirements for physical characterization of the preparation. The formulas to be made were 3 formulas with varying concentrations of turmeric extract combined with hyaluronic acid at a constant concentration. The obtained formulas were then evaluated physically including organoleptic observations, pH measurements, spreadability testing, adhesion testing and emulsion type testing. The results obtained a semi-solid foot crack cream formula, light canary to mustard in color; pH 6; spreadability value of 6.1 cm- 6.5 cm; adhesion of more than 1 second and had an oil-in-water emulsion type. From the results of this study, could be concluded that the obtained foot crack cream preparation formula using a combination of hyaluronic acid and turmeric extract met the requirements for physical characterization of the preparation.

Abstract

Abstract

This study developed a Self-Nanoemulsifying Drug Delivery System (SNEDDS) of red ginger (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) to enhance its stability and bioavailability. 8 formulations (F1–F8) were tested with varying Tween 80 : PEG 400 ratios (Smix 4.5 mL). Formula F7 (2.8 : 1.8 mL) produced a water-clear emulsion with pH 5.20 ± 0.02 and excellent stability for 28 days. PSA results showed droplet size 20.33 ± 0.57 nm, PDI 0.430 ± 0.053, and zeta potential −19.58 ± 1.50 mV. These findings indicated that F7 is the optimum, physicochemically stable SNEDDS formulation, potentially improving solubility and oral bioavailability of red ginger’s active compounds as a phytopharmaceutical antidiabetic candidate Keywords: red ginger, SNEDDS, nanoemulsion, physicochemical stability

Abstract

Jatrophone and its congeners jatropholone A and B, have shown potent cytotoxicity by triggering apoptosis through Bcl-2–regulated mechanisms. We evaluated jatrophone, jatropholones A and B and twenty-two related derivatives as Bcl-2–targeting anticancer leads using in silico approaches. Molecular properties and preliminary affinity estimates were obtained with ChemOffice; molecular docking to the Bcl-2 binding site was performed with AutoDock Tools. ADME predictions used PreADMET and toxicity risk assessment applied Toxtree with the Benigni/Bossa rule-base. Twelve compounds violated Lipinski’s rule of five, while thirteen displayed identical amino-acid contacts at the receptor, suggesting a conserved binding mode. Predicted plasma protein binding was high for most derivatives except compounds 20 and 22. Six derivatives were flagged as potentially genotoxic; none were predicted mutagenic. Docking ranked jatropholone A as the top candidate (binding energy −8.67 kcal/mol). These results prioritize jatropholone A for experimental validation as a promising Bcl-2–targeting anticancer agent.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is the bacteria that causes the most cases of infection in the world. Most infectious disease therapy in Indonesia uses antibiotics. Incorrect use of antibiotics can increase resistance. One of the plants that has the potential as an alternative treatment for infections is suji leaves. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of suji leaf extract and fraction on antibacterial activity in Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria. Samples were extracted using the maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent and then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvents. Phytochemical tests were carried out to determine alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, polyphenols, triterpenoids and steroids. Antibacterial activity tests of suji leaf extracts and fractions were carried out using the well method at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15% respectively with a negative control of 70% ethanol and a positive control of ciprofloxacin. Suji leaf extracts and fractions contain alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, and polyphenols. The extract, n-hexane fraction, and ethyl acetate fraction of suji leaves have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria. The inhibitory activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 bacteria was greatest in the ethyl acetate fraction at a concentration of 15% with an average inhibition zone of 19.6 mm but was not equivalent to the inhibition of the positive control ciprofloxacin
