Abstract

The environment in Indonesia is one of the world's centers of biodiversity, known as a mega-biodiversity country. The high diversity does not make Indonesia contribute significantly to environmental improvement. One of the factors that causes it is human behaviour. Therefore, efforts are needed to prevent and minimize these behaviours by increasing human resources through the application of ecological intelligence and media exposure to create environmentally friendly behaviour. This research aims to measure the level of ecological intelligence, media exposure, and environmentally friendly behaviour of students and to analyze the relationship between ecological intelligence and media exposure with environmentally friendly behaviour among private junior high school students in DKI Jakarta. This research was conducted at SMP Labschool Kebayoran, SMP Istiqlal Jakarta, and SMP Laboratorium Jakarta in the odd semester of the 2020/2021 academic year. The method used is quantitative through correlational studies. Sampling was done by cluster random sampling and obtained 90 students. Data collection was carried out using ecological intelligence instruments, media exposure, and environmentally friendly behaviour, then analyzed by normality and homogeneity tests. The results show us that media exposure contributes more than ecological intelligence to form environmentally friendly behaviour.

Abstract

This research aimed to produce science comics products of earth disaster response, described the validity, practicality and effectiveness of comic learning tools based on socioscientific issues (SSI). SSI-based comics combined with guided inquiry models to increase interest and science learning achievement. It used to facilitate students learning in classrooms which mostly have a visual learning style. This research developed using 4-D model and designed using the one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were 120 Grade VII students of Junior High School. The instruments used validation sheets, the implementation of learning, student activities, student responses in the form of modality and interest questionnaires, attitude assessment sheets, and written tests. The data were analyzed descriptively in the form of questionnaires and learning outcomes tests. This questionnaire contains statements and a Likert scale to measure students' learning modalities and interests, while the learning outcomes test is in the form of a multiple choice written test to measure students' cognitive abilities by determining the percentage of n-gain score and the percentage of learning completeness. The results showed that students' interest and learning achievement on earth disaster response material had increased in all classes because of the use of  SSI-based comic teaching materials that helped optimise the process of guided inquiry learning. The stage of guided inquiry also requires students to read a lot and discuss SSI problems in comics. Statistical tests showed that interest in learning affects increasing student learning achievement in Classes VII-B, VII-C, and VII-E because most students have visual learning modalities. But it did not have much impact on grades VII-A and VII-D, which are modality levels visual learning is still relatively low. This is due to the interest in learning which is influenced  by learning modalities, abilities, learning intensity, student attitudes, and student learning environment. So, great interest tends towards senior learning achievement as well, but not all show the influence of attention on it. Student responses were positive. Finally, SSI-based comic teaching materials in guided inquiry learning on earth disaster response materials are appropriate to be used to increase student interest and achievement in science.

Abstract

The main purpose of the study is to determine the effect of asynchronous learning to academic performance and students’ motivation towards Science. It is necessary since motivation serves as a foundation for better understanding of science concepts in an asynchronous setting. The respondents are 201 grade 11 students of Iligan Computer Institute (ICI) who are enrolled during the Academic Year 2020-2021. The ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model was used in the study for the development of asynchronous lesson on Genetic Engineering with Google Classroom as the online platform. The research utilized SMTSL (Students Motivation Towards Science Learning) questionnaire developed by Tuan, et al. (2005) composed of 35 questions encompassing six (6) domains of motivation namely, self-efficacy, active learning strategies, science learning value, performance goal, achievement goal and learning environment stimulation. Quantitative data together with qualitative analysis showed that students are moderately motivated towards science learning in an asynchronous environment. The highest identified domain is science learning value indicating that students find the relevance of science with daily life which makes them motivated to learn science even in a remote learning environment where there is no direct contact and supervision. In contrast, self-efficacy and performance goal are the least domains suggesting that students are least concerned with their own ability to perform well in science learning tasks and they do not compete with other students and get attention from the teacher. Using the researcher-made achievement test and performance task to measure their academic performance, 80% of the students belong to approaching proficiency, proficient and advanced groups showing that students did well in science in an asynchronous learning environment.  Moreover, students’ motivation was significantly correlated with science academic performance so science academic performance can be used as indirect evidence of students’ motivation. Based on these findings, it is recommended that curriculum experts and educators consider factors of motivation in revisiting the science curriculum in an asynchronous environment.

Abstract

The problem of student learning difficulties and the factors causing it are very important to know. The first step that can be taken is to use a diagnostic test as a reference indicator in identifying student learning difficulties. The purpose of this study was to determine the difficulties in learning parabolic motion and its causal factors experienced by students of the 2018 Physics Education Department. This type of research is descriptive. The subjects of this study were 19 students of the 2018 Cenderawasih University in the Physics Education Department. Data collection techniques used are test, interview, and documentation. The results of the overall assessment of the diagnostic test showed that 19 students had not yet completed achieving the learning objectives in understanding the parabolic motion sub-material because the highest score obtained by one of the students was 53, while the minimum completeness reached a score of 56. These difficulties are influenced by internal factors, namely body defects, fatigue, attention, readiness, habits, how to receive lessons, boredom; and external factors, namely the lecturer’s teaching methods, discipline, building conditions, forms of community life, and weather conditions.

Abstract

There is a gap between the quantity and quality of research in Indonesia. It is assumed that the research skills of the researchers are still low. Meanwhile, research skills development still relies on the higher education level. Efforts are needed to develop research skills from an early age. This study aims to examine the use of APL in the authentic science approach to develop research skills of junior high school students. The quasi-experimental method was carried out by inviting 81 students from two classes of 7th grade in a state middle school in Bandung, Indonesia. They analyzed three Adapted Primary Literatures with the jigsaw and NHT models. Before and after learning, students took research skills tests. The research instrument has passed the validity and reliability tests. Descriptive and inferential analyses were done. The results of data analysis indicate that the use of APL in the authentic science approach in both learning models can develop students' research skills. Furthermore, the jigsaw model is more recommended to use. This study recommends the use of APL as a science learning resource to develop students' research skills as a beginning to introduce the scientific method.
