Abstract

Based on the analysis of the community situation in Bara Village, the basic problems faced by the community are the low human resources and the lack of community knowledge and skills regarding environmental education and land management. The community only relies on longevity plants such as coconut and cocoa. Coconut plants are carried out every two to three times a year, while harvesting of cocoa is done every year after five years of planting. Based on the results of the activities carried out by the community in Bara village, Air Buaya, Buru district, Maluku province, it can be concluded that these activities are very useful for the local community to prepare them to become environmentally aware and work because they have adequate knowledge and skills and the results can be used as sources additional income for the community itself to meet family needs. Abstract

Kayeli Bay is a water in Buru Regency which has very important value in terms of ecological and economic functions. During its development, the ecosystem in Kayeli Bay bears the burden of pollution, especially heavy metal mercury as a result of the people's gold mining on Buru Island which uses Hg to get pure gold. Hg can accumulate in the environment, especially deposited in the sediments in Kayeli Bay waters. Mangrove plants that generally grow in estuary and coastal environments are a place for sediment accumulation. This plant has the ability to absorb and accumulate heavy metals, one of which is R. mucronata. This study aims to analyze the concentration of heavy metal Hg in mangroves of R. mucronata and sediments, and to analyze the bioaccumulation of heavy metal Hg in R. mucronata in Kayeli Bay, Buru Regency. Samples were taken from 3 stations, namely the Anahoni River Estuary (Station I), the Wailata River Estuary (II Station) and the Waeapo River Estuary (III Station). Each station has 2 sampling points (replicates). Determination of the concentration of Hg metal in the sample using the CV-AAS method. The average value of Hg concentration in the roots was higher than the bark and leaves of the mangrove R. mucronata, but the concentration was lower than the sediment and was still below the critical value of Hg for plants. The average value of sediment Hg concentration is still below the sediment quality standard. In this study, R. mucronata mangroves were excluder and phytostabilized, where there was a limitation on the absorption of heavy metal Hg from water and sediment and the most Hg accumulation was found in the roots. Abstract

The clove leaves are part of the clove plant which rarely used, and if you look at them, the clove leaves have active compounds that can be functioned as antibacterials. Meanwhile, Virgin Coconut Oil or called VCO, is processed from coconut milk as the essential ingredient, and if it is not processed correctly, VCO will usually have a short shelf life or can be damaged quickly. This study aims to determine the quality of VCO by adding clove leaves in its processing. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the quality of VCO with the addition of clove leaves for the indicator of water content and the free fatty acid number is not following the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). In contrast, the indicator for the VCO peroxide number with a mixture of clove leaves has good quality according to the SNI standard. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the quality of VCO with the addition of 100 grams of clove leaves for indicators of water content and fatty acid numbers, namely 2.9% and 0.69%, is high or above the SNI standard limit. In comparison, the quality of VCO with the addition of 100 grams of clove leaves with indicators a peroxide value of 0.7 mg ek/ kg or less than 2 mg ek/kg has good quality based on Indonesian National Standard. Abstract

The large number of rice fields in Borikamase Village, resulting in high production of hay, requires an appropriate effort to use straw into organic fertilizer or bokashi which is environmentally friendly as well as safe for plants. The use of straw into bokashi or organic fertilizer needs to be taught to the farming community, so the community service team focuses on providing assistance and training to the community in utilizing straw as a raw material in making bokashi by using microorganisms as the source of fermentation. In addition, the high price of synthetic fertilizers on the market makes farmers in Borikamase Village feel heavy in providing nutritional supplies to their agricultural areas, so that this training is expected to help farmers by obtaining fertilizers that are cheap, safe, and of good quality to fertilize. The existence of biotechnology applications, provides the right solution in overcoming the damage to bald mountains and the scarcity and high price of synthetic fertilizers, namely by processing straw into bokashi or organic fertilizers with high nutrient content and are safe for the environment. In addition, providing knowledge and skills for farming communities as agents of reform in restoring ecosystem balance through the application of bokashi made of straw on rice fields. Abstract

Research has been carried out to determine the cell structure of the epidermis and stomata in some mangrove plants in the species Aegiceras corniculatum and Rhizophora apiculata. Descriptive method is used to describe the cell structure of the epidermis and stomata of Aegiceras corniculatum and Rhizophora apiculata and quantitative leaves to calculate the number of stomata, number of epidermis and stomata index based on nail polish on the cross section of epidermal cells on the lower underside of the leaf using a light microscope, while the incision longitudinal to determine leaf thickness between the upper epidermis and the lower epidermis. The results showed that the two mangrove species that grow in the mouth of the Poka and Leahari villages namely Aegiceras corniculatum and Rhizophora apiculata were found to have the same anatomical structure and leaf anatomical characteristics in terms of the shape of epidermal cells, rectangular, octagonal, elongated, and irregular. Aegiceras corniculatum and Rhizophora apiculata have anomositic stomata type because neighboring cells surround the stomata and have the same shape as epidermal cells. Mangrove species in the river estuary of Poka Village have higher number of stomata and smaller epidermal size and lower stomata index than mangrove species in Leahari Village due to the influence of the shade.
