Abstract

Background: This study is motivated by the need to understand how pesantren education can shape positive social attitudes among students, particularly in the context of national awareness, tolerance, anti-violence, and acceptance of local culture. Purpose: The aim of this research is to analyze how the Muhammadiyah and Persatuan Islam (Persis) education systems in Bandung develop students’ attitudes toward national commitment, tolerance, anti-violence and anti-radicalism, as well as accommodative attitudes toward local culture. Method: The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, using in-depth interviews with teachers, pesantren principals, and students, along with participatory observation to obtain empirical data. Result: The results indicate that Muhammadiyah pesantrens emphasize the integration of moderation values into learning materials, social practices, and daily habituation as the main strategy for shaping social attitudes. Meanwhile, Persis pesantrens place more emphasis on religious ritual habituation, discussions on national issues, group activities, and social interactions as a means of internalizing religious moderation values. Both approaches are proven effective in fostering students’ awareness of their responsibilities as citizens, respect for differences, rejection of violence, and acceptance of local cultural diversity. Conclusion: The study concludes that value-based pesantren education, combined with the integration of social activities and ritual habituation, is highly effective in developing moderate social attitudes among students. Implication: These findings provide practical implications for the development of pesantren curricula and character education strategies that are contextual, adaptive, and relevant to the multicultural socio-cultural realities of Indonesian society.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the influence of political communication strategy models, namely the bandwagon effect, expected utility, and simple candidate preferences partially on voters' voting decisions, as well as to analyze the similarities and differences in the effectiveness of implementing these political communication strategy models among the three candidate pairs. Method: The research approach is quantitative. The population is the millennial generation of Indonesian citizens (WNI) registered on the Permanent Voter List (DPT) in DKI Jakarta Province who have characteristics as millennials, voted in the presidential election on February 14, 2024, and before the election day had the opportunity to participate in the political communication of the three presidential candidates through social media platforms. The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Secondary data collection techniques through study desks, while primary data collection techniques through survey and interview methods. The data analysis technique uses Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS). Result: The results of the study indicate that the simple candidate preference model has a significant influence in shaping people's political choices through social imitation mechanisms and perceptions of candidate popularity. Conclusion: The bandwagon effect that emerges can increase political participation and awareness of the democratic process, but also has the potential to reduce the quality of political rationality if it is not balanced with critical political education.

Abstract

Purpose:  This study formulates a digital ethics epistemology within Islamic education to shape the morality of Generation Z as digital natives facing challenges such as cyberbullying, disinformation, and identity crises due to filter bubbles, exacerbated by the dichotomy between religious knowledge (normativity) and general knowledge (historicity and empiricism). Method: Employing a qualitative-philosophical approach based on content analysis and an integrative-interconnective framework. The research explicitly integrates interdisciplinary sources: (1) Qur’anic verses along with classical tafsirs (Tafsir Ibn Kathir and Tafsir Al-Mishbah); (2) contemporary epistemological philosophy literature (concepts of truth, justification, and epistemic vices); and (3) empirical scientific studies on social media algorithms, big data, digital psychology, and philosophy of technology. Result: The main result is an Islamic education model based on three pillars: Qur’anic normativity (e.g., the principle of qaulan sadīdan in Q.S. An-Nisa’: 9), philosophical rationality, and scientific empiricism. Conclusion: The primary theoretical contribution is the formulation of a digital ethics epistemological framework that transcends conventional normative approaches, fostering digital epistemic awareness in Generation Z—the ability to distinguish between haq and batil while acting ethically responsible in virtual spaces—thus producing robust digital integrity for Muslim youth in the digital era.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze parents’ perceptions of instilling religious moderation values in Generation Alpha through animated films, particularly Nussa & Rara and Riri Cerita Anak Interaktif, focusing on parents of tenth-grade students at SMA Muhammadiyah 6 Makassar. Method: Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, this research explores parents’ experiences, views, and practices in guiding their children's media consumption in the digital era. Result: The findings indicate that both animated films are perceived as effective media for conveying key values of religious moderation, such as tolerance, appreciation of diversity, peaceful conflict resolution, and balanced religious understanding. However, the effectiveness of these values’ internalization is strongly influenced by parental accompaniment, which serves as a mediator between the film’s messages and the child’s real-life context. Challenges identified include exposure to diverse digital content, limited parental supervision time, and variations in parents’ understanding of religious moderation. Conclusion: This study highlights that synergy between educational animated media, family media literacy, and formal education is essential to strengthen the internalization of religious moderation values in Generation Alpha.
