Abstract

Cyberbullying is a form of bullying that commonly affects adolescents. One of the psychological impacts experienced by victims of cyberbullying includes depression, anxiety, and stress. This study aimed to examine the relationship between cyberbullying and levels of depression, anxiety, and stress (DAS) among adolescents in Salatiga City. A quantitative method with a descriptive correlational approach was used. Data were collected using two stages of questionnaires: the first was the Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire-Revised Version (OBVQ-R) to assess exposure to cyberbullying, and the second was the Depression, Anxiety, Stress Scale 42 (DASS-42) to measure psychological symptoms. A total of 151 adolescents participated in the study, conducted from January 17–29, 2024. Statistical analysis using the Chi-Square test showed significant relationships between cyberbullying and depression (p = 0.000), anxiety (p = 0.001), and stress (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Cyberbullying is associated with varying levels of depression, anxiety, and stress in victims. Due to its persistent and hard-to-avoid nature, it causes significant emotional distress among affected adolescents.

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis that remains a global problem. In response to the burden of TB, the Indonesian government has established the TB Elimination Target for 2030. Primary health centers play a crucial role in implementing TB elimination strategies in Indonesia through effective and sustainable essential health services. This qualitative study, using a rapid assessment test design, aims to explore the tuberculosis control program in the Community Health Center (Puskesmas) Tanah Baru area more deeply. Data were collected through observation techniques and in-depth interviews with selected informants. This study involved seven informants selected through purposive sampling based on their roles and relevance to the TB program, including the Head of the P2P Program at the City Health Office, the Head of the TB Program at the City Health Office, the Head of the Puskesmas, the Puskesmas TB Program Holder, a Puskesmas nurse, the Head of Kapitu, and positive TB patients. Data analysis was conducted using the concept of triangulation of sources and methods. The results showed that the input and process components in the Puskesmas Tanah Baru TB control program were optimal. The implementation of promotive programs in the form of counseling, preventive programs such as screening, contact investigation, and provision of TPT, as well as curative programs, has been carried out according to national standards. Regarding the output component, the coverage of health services for people suspected of TB and the successful treatment of TB cases have reached the target. However, the overall coverage of TB case treatment has not yet met the predetermined target. The results of the TB control program at Puskesmas Tanah Baru largely meet the established indicators, although community stigma remains a significant obstacle to TB control efforts. Promotive and educational programs in the Puskesmas Tanah Baru area should be strengthened to reduce stigma within the community.

Abstract

Maternal mortality remains a critical issue in Indonesia, predominantly caused by the triad of haemorrhage, preeclampsia, and infection. The progression from haemorrhage to preeclampsia and ultimately infection presents a serious threat to maternal health. From a nursing perspective, early prevention strategies, including stress management, are essential in reducing the risk of preeclampsia among pregnant women. This study aims to explore the lived experiences of pregnant women in managing stress as a non-pharmacological nursing intervention to prevent preeclampsia. A qualitative descriptive design has been employed to explore stress management strategies among pregnant women in the context of preeclampsia prevention. Participants were selected through purposive sampling and recruited from two primary healthcare centres. Data were collected over two months using in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs). All interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed thematically using OpenCode software for systematic coding and interpretation. The thematic analysis has identified three overarching themes: (1) Sources and experiences of stress during pregnancy; (2) Emotional shifts associated with pregnancy; and (3) Coping strategies adopted to prevent preeclampsia. The third theme included three sub-themes: the use of relaxation techniques to manage stress, the application of distraction methods to redirect stress, and the integration of spiritual practices as a means of emotional regulation. Pregnant women utilize a variety of distraction, relaxation, and spiritual strategies to alleviate stress and manage emotional fluctuations during pregnancy, thereby helping to prevent an increase in blood pressure. This study suggests that preeclampsia prevention can be achieved effectively and economically through non-pharmacological nursing interventions. Future research should consider a larger and more diverse population, potentially incorporating a transcultural nursing approach, to further explore these interventions' applicability across different cultural contexts.

Abstract

Cancer care requires exceptional therapeutic relationships due to patients' complex physical and emotional needs, yet these relationships face unique challenges in resource-constrained settings. In Indonesian oncology units, where high patient volumes and limited resources strain nurse-patient interactions, understanding the current state of therapeutic relationships becomes particularly crucial.  This study aims to explore the nurse-patient therapeutic relationship along with respect, genuineness, empathy, trust, and confidentiality, to identify problems and challenges encountered by nurses and patients related to their therapeutic relationship, and to develop a proposed nurse-patient therapeutic framework for cancer patients in Indonesian contexts. A descriptive phenomenology approach was used in this study. 17 nurses and 15 patients were recruited  using a purposive sampling method. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, verbatim transcribed, and thematically analyzed. Total 11 themes and 24 sub-themes emerged in 5 aspects of the nurse-patient therapeutic relationship. Problems and challenges encountered by nurses and patients need to be solved by improving nurse communication and developing a trusting relationship with patients and improving patients’ comfort through improving hospital facilities. The proposed framework of the nurse-patient therapeutic relationship between nurses and patients may be used as the basis for developing a standard of nursing care for cancer patients.

Abstract

The phenomenon of early marriage among Indonesian teenagers is increasing every year. Preventive efforts to overcome the increase in early marriage need to be carried out by knowing the factors that cause the phenomenon of early marriage. This study is a qualitative study using a phenomenological research type that aims to understand the nature of the phenomenon of adolescent behavior toward early marriage. The technique used is purposive sampling with a total of 10 informants who were married before the age of 19 from 2022 to 2023. Data collection was carried out through source triangulation, namely interviews with 10 parents or guardians of teenagers, two local health workers, and one officer of the Religious Affairs Office. A survey conducted on the 10 informants found several influences that encourage early marriage. Factors that influence early marriage are the knowledge and level of education of teenagers, which make the mindset of teenagers narrow who do not think about the future so that students who graduate from junior high school have already married early; the role of health workers and officers of the Religious Affairs Office in cases of early marriage that are not balanced; the role of parents in supervising and educating teenagers who are still lacking; the level of parental income based on the parents' jobs also has an influence. The majority of teenagers who marry early come from low-income families.

Abstract

The performance of professional caregivers and patient satisfaction are closely interrelated and mutually influential. As a primary indicator of dental healthcare quality, patient satisfaction is shaped by the comparison between service expectations and the actual care received. Satisfaction increases with excellent performance and decreases with poor performance. This study analyzed the association between key performance factors—specifically promptness, attitude, and communication of professional caregivers—and patient satisfaction in the Outpatient Unit of Gusti Hasan Aman Dental and Oral Hospital. An analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed, involving 105 patients selected through accidental sampling. Chi-square tests revealed significant associations between attitude (p = 0.000) and communication (p = 0.000) in service and patient satisfaction. However, no significant association was found between promptness (p = 0.331) and patient satisfaction. Multiple logistic regression analysis further confirmed the importance of attitude (p = 0.016) and communication (p = 0.005) in service as factors related to patient satisfaction, with communication emerging as the most dominant factor (OR = 6.064; 95% CI: 1.711–21.490). The analysis also considered respondent characteristics such as age, gender, type of healthcare financing, and education level. In conclusion, attitude and communication in service were significantly associated with patient satisfaction, with communication being the most influential factor.

Abstract

Non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) can cause pain, muscle imbalances, spasms, and postural alterations. It may also restrict lumbar mobility, compromise the stability of lower back and abdominal muscles, and potentially lead to disability. The application of Muscle Energy Technique (MET) combined with Microwave Diathermy (MWD) has been shown to effectively address these issues by reducing pain, improving muscle balance, relieving spasms, and restoring lumbar mobility. This combination therapy enhances the stability of the core muscles, thereby preventing further disability and improving patient outcomes. This study aimed to investigate the effect of MET combined with MWD on reducing pain in patients with NSLBP at Tadjuddin Chalid Hospital, Makassar. A quasi-experimental design with two groups and pre-test/post-test measurements was used. The study population comprised 21 individuals diagnosed with NSLBP. Using purposive sampling based on specific inclusion criteria and the Slovin formula, a total sample of 20 participants was selected. One individual was excluded for not meeting the criteria. Participants were randomly assigned to either the treatment group (n=10), which received MET combined with MWD, or the control group (n=10), which received Infrared (IR) and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS). Paired sample t-test results showed a statistically significant reduction in pain in both groups (p = 0.000). However, the independent sample t-test indicated a significant difference between groups (p = 0.001), with the treatment group demonstrating a greater mean reduction in pain (3.870) compared to the control group (2.290). In conclusion, the combination of MET and MWD was found to be more effective in reducing pain associated with NSLBP than conventional IR and TENS therapy.

Abstract

Environmental and behavioral factors can increase the transmission of Tuberculosis (TB) and worsen outcomes. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between environmental sanitation and patient behavior with the incidence of TB. This type of analytical survey research uses a cross-sectional approach. The research is located in the Working Area of the Talise Health Center, Palu City. The research sample was all TB cases recorded at the Talise Health Center as many as 40 cases. The ratio of cases to control was 1:1, so that the total sample was 80 respondents. The control came from the closest neighbors who had the same age and gender as the case group. Data analysis using univariate and bivariate with Chi-Square test. The results showed that environmental sanitation had an influence on the incidence of TB, non-qualified environmental sanitation had a 5.476 times greater risk of developing TB than qualified people (p = 0.001, OR = 5.476 [2,099-14,284]). Environmental sanitation that has a significant relationship is ventilation (0.002), occupancy density (0.004), temperature (0.004) and lighting (0.004). For patient behaviors that include attitudes and actions that influence the incidence of TB, negative attitudes have a 4.394 times greater risk of developing TB than those who have positive attitudes (p = 0.003, OR = 4.394 [1,709-11,295]). Meanwhile, bad actions had a 3.857 times greater risk of developing TB than those with good actions (p = 0.003, OR = 3.857 [1.526-9.750]). The significance of this study is that environmental sanitation and patient behavior have an influence on the incidence of TB.

Abstract

Anemia remains a common health issue among women aged 15–48 years, with a global prevalence of 30% and 18% in Indonesia. Various educational methods have been employed, yet the demand for Android-based educational models remains high. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the Anem SIP educational model for anemia prevention in adolescent girls, using a mixed methods approach and the ADDIE development model. The study adopted a mixed methods approach with the ADDIE development framework. The product was developed through validation by four experts, followed by one-on-one testing, small group testing, and field trials. The needs assessment stage served as the foundational step in the development process. Interviews with stakeholders and a survey of 30 adolescent girls indicated a continued need for an Android-based educational model. The model was designed based on the Health Belief Model (HBM), supported by the PRECEDE-PROCEED model, Social Cognitive Theory (SCT), Transtheoretical Model (TTM), multimedia learning, and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The final product was the Anem SIP mobile application, featuring promotive, preventive, diagnostic, and monitoring components for iron-folic acid (IFA) supplement intake. Validation by four experts confirmed the model’s feasibility, and testing showed it to be user-friendly. The model comprises six procedural stages: problem identification, initial evaluation, preparation, action, final evaluation, and maintenance. Field testing revealed significant improvements in knowledge, attitudes, and adherence to IFA supplement consumption before and after the intervention. The t-test showed statistically significant increases in knowledge and attitudes (p < 0.001). Laboratory examinations also indicated an increase in average hemoglobin levels post-intervention. The Anem SIP intervention demonstrates promising potential in enhancing knowledge, attitudes, and behavioral changes among adolescent girls for the prevention of anemia

Abstract

The use of contraceptives among believers tends to be low. This can be attributed to traditional values that are still very strong in society, where the concept of extended family and the continuity of offspring are considered very important. Nevertheless, efforts have been made to provide understanding and education about the importance of family planning and reproductive health, so that people can choose wisely about the use of contraceptives according to their needs and values. This study aims to analyze the determinants of contraceptive use in adherents of the Mappurondo faith school in Mamasa Regency, West Sulawesi Province, using the 2022 National Population and Family Planning Agency's Family Data Collection Update data set. The population is all families adhering to the Mappurondo faith school in Mamasa district, a sample of 431 couples of childbearing age, with sample criteria that include married women between the ages of 15 and 49 years old, whether they use contraceptives or not. The analysis used is the chi-square test and the multivariate test. The results of the analysis showed that the variables of the age group of couples of childbearing age, Insurance Ownership, Welfare Level, Number of children born alive and got information about the family planning population program and family development from the officers statistically significantly related to the use of family planning in adherents of the Mappurondo faith school in Mamasa Regency, while the variables of Education Level and obtaining information about the population program program Family planning and family development from the media are not related to the use of family planning in the Mappurondo school of belief in Mamasa Regency (p>0.05). Variable Getting information about the KKBPK Program from officers is the most significant variable affecting contraceptive use, followed by the variable of Insurance Ownership. In conclusion, the variation of information about the KKBPK Program from officers did not provide a significant relationship with the use of contraceptives. Suggestions are hoped to improve the quantity and quality of communication, information, and education for family planning officers who provide counselling to the community of the Mappurondo faith.
