Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the social context based on the influence on the life struggle of the main character of the novel 23 Episentrum by Adenita. In addition to describing the social context, this study also explores the elements of story building. This research is a type of qualitative research, so the method used is descriptive analysis, namely presenting data by relying on interpretations to become a description. The object of this research is the intrinsic element and social context. The data source of this research is the novel 23 Episentrum by Adenita. The data collection techniques of this research are reading, note-taking, and documentation techniques. Data analysis techniques in this study are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results obtained from the research show that (1) the analysis of the main character's life struggle includes the struggle to survive, always be grateful, realize dreams, pay off debts, run jobs, get happiness, and to continue a good. (2) analysis of the social context that affects the main character includes the influence of the family environment, friendships, and work. The results of this study are relevant to literature teaching materials in high school.

Abstract

One way to improve students ability to write personal letters is to apply the think talk write cooperative learning model. The purpose of this study was to describe the learning process by applying the think talk write cooperative leraning model and to describe the learning outcomes using the think talk write cooperative learning model. The research method used is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques using observation and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique in this study uses three steps in analyzing the data, namely reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions or verification. Test the validity of the data using an inter rater and member check. The result showed that the steps of learning to write personal letters using the think talk write cooperative learning model, namely, think is done by giving reading matrial and asking students to write things that are considered important, talk is done by the teacher guiding students to conduct discussions about the results of student notes, and write is done by asking students to construct the results that have been obtained from the stages of think and talk. Then, the results of students ability to write personal letters by applying the think talk write cooperative learning model obtained and average value of 75,18 which was included in the sufficient category.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the form of code mixing, the type of mixed code, and the factors causing the code mixing process in learning activities in the low-grade classes of SD Negeri 74 Rejang Lebong. This research uses descriptive method. The data source in this study was the teacher's language when interacting with students in the lessons in grade one, two, and three at 74 Rejang Lebong Elementary School. The data in this study are in the form of teacher speech during interaction with students which contain mixed codes in learning in grades one, two, and three at 74 Rejang Lebong Elementary School. The data steps in this study were recording and interviewing. The data analysis steps in this study were (1) data transcription, (2) data identification, (3) data classification, (4) data interpretation, (5) data conclusion. The results of this study indicate that the form of word code mix includes the form of verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, conjunctions, interrogative, demonstrative, numeralia. Meanwhile, the form of verb phrases, nouns, pronouns, adverbs, numeralia, interrogative, and demonstrative. The mixed types of code in low grade learning include the mixed types of code in, and mixed types of code out, as well as mixed types of code. The code-mixing event came from the Indonesian language which was inserted in English. Mix code into sourced from regional languages ​​and mix code mix sourced from regional languages ​​and English. The factors causing the code include function and purpose factors, speech partners, speaker and the speaker's personality.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the functions of implicatures foung in Najwa Shihab’s utterances in ‘Mata Najwa Talk Show’ of episodes of “Against Corona and Waiting for Terawan.” This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach due to its data in the form of implicature function of utterances that as it is. There are 353 data which downloaded from the YouTube videos of “Against Corona and Waiting for Terawan.” Data were collected using the listening method or usually known as non-participant observation method. Data analysis used pragmatic matching method and sorting technique (PUP) with referential sorting power technique and comparison and differentiation technique (HBB). Research results are presented through formal and informal methods with descriptive explanation and using tables and diagrams. The results of the research indicate that there are three implicature functions used in Najwa Shihab’s utterances in in ‘Mata Najwa Talk Show’ of episodes of “Against Corona and Waiting for Terawan”: (1) assertive/representative function, (2) directive function, and (3) expressive function. The most often used of implicature function found in this study is the directive function. This is due to the fact that Shihab’s speech has many implicatures that function to ask and order her listeners. Shihab as the presenter of the talk show usually asks the resource person related to the topic. In addition, Shihab also requests the audience to do something in order to direct the talk show smoothly and communicatively.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using audio-visual media on the skills of writing persuasive essays in class X SMA 3 Tangerang City. The research method used is a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. Data collection techniques using tests. The data analysis technique starts from the normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that there was an effect of using audio-visual media on the skills of writing persuasive essays in class X SMA 3 Tangerang City. This effect is shown from the comparison of the post-test value of the experimental class of 71.3 and that of the control class of 66.8. Then, from the results of the hypothesis test tcount of 4.59 > ttable of 2.00, then there is a significant difference in the final test results of students in the experimental class and students in the control class. This means that the experimental class students are more skilled at writing persuasive essays after the application of audiovisual media than students in the control class who do not use audiovisual media.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the problem-based learning model on the ability to write argumentative essays for class IX students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tangerang City. The method used in this study is a quasi-experimental method by conducting a pretest and posttest in two groups. This type of experimental research method uses a nonequivalent control group design, where the experimental class is treated and the control class is not treated. The data collection technique used a test in the form of an essay test in the form of performance in writing an argumentative essay. The data analysis technique starts from the normality test, homogeneity test, and continues to test the hypothesis. The results showed that post-test or final test data were obtained which were then analyzed using a two-party t-test, giving the result that students who were given treatment with problem-based learning models experienced more improvement than students who were not given PBM learning strategies. This can be seen from the calculation results, that the value of tcount > ttable value with the acquisition of tcount of 0.94 while for ttable of 2.0084. This proves that the hypothesis is accepted, namely that there are differences in students' ability to write argumentative essays between students who are given a problem-based learning model and students who are not given a problem-based learning model.

Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve writing skills through picture series media in learning English in class VIII students of SMPN Kelapa 2 Tangerang Regency. This research was carried out on class VIII students, totaling 35 students consisting of 15 male students and 20 female students. The research method used in this research is classroom action research using the spiral model of Kemmis and Mc Taggart. The stages of classroom action research according to Kemmis and Mc Taggart are planning, action, observation, and reflection. The increase in the writing test scores from the initial conditions to the first cycle to the third cycle, namely the average value in the initial conditions was 59.67 with a percentage of completeness 43.33% (18 people), in the first cycle increased to 65.33 with a percentage of completeness 60% ( 23 people), in the second cycle it increased to 72 with a completeness percentage of 73.33% (27 people), and in the third cycle it increased to 75.66 with a completeness percentage of 86.66% (31 people). The results obtained from classroom action research on 35 students, namely by increasing the average value from the initial conditions of 59.67, increasing to 65.33 in the first cycle, in the second cycle increasing to 72 and in the third cycle increasing to 75.66. It can be concluded that picture series media in learning English can improve the writing ability of class VIII students of SMPN Kelapa 2 Tangerang Regency. English teachers are expected to use and apply picture series media in the implementation of English learning on writing material in class. English teachers can use picture series media as learning media that can improve students' writing skills, so that students can easily develop their ideas or thoughts in writing.

Abstract

One of the novels that are of interest to readers is because they contain the cultural culture of a society. For this reason, the importance of the study of the artistic elements contained in the novel. The purpose of this study was to describe the artistic elements contained in the Sirkus Pohon novel by Andrea Hirata. The data in this study are the Sirkus Pohon novel by Andrea Hirata. The research method uses the method of literary anthropology. Data collection techniques using documentation techniques by reading and recording research data. Test the validity of the data using member check and validation of literary anthropologists. Data analysis techniques are by analyzing quotations containing art, connecting the findings of art with the culture that exists in the text, and interpreting art culture contextually. The results showed that in the Sirkus Pohon novel by Andrea Hirata contains variations of artistic elements, namely drama (theater), literary arts, painting, drawing art, interior design, architectural design, and kria art. All elements of the art are displayed and add insight into the culture of the Belitung community.

Abstract

The method of learning to begin with is conducted by Al-Kautsar Kindergarten teachers which are still conventional in nature. This means that the method used is still monotonous, the teacher uses the lecture method with whiteboard media, markers, and erasers. This is not very interesting for beginning reading learning. The purpose of this study was to describe the application of flash card media to instill the value of religious characters in learning to begin reading in early childhood in Al-Kautsar Kindergarten. The method used is classroom action research. The steps taken in this study are planning, implementation and observation, and reflection. The results showed that the flash card media can improve the ability to read early childhood and is effective for instilling the value of religious character education.bjectives. This is because student motivation is a variable that is influenced by various factors.

Abstract

One culture that is still inherent in society is oral literature. Oral literature existed before the public recognized written literature, but its existence is difficult to preserve because it depends on the speaker. In this connection, the researcher was interested and wanted to explore the narrative structure of the Pari and Sumur Temples in Porong District, Sidoarjo Regency. The theory used in this research was Maranda's narrative analysis theory and Kasim's comparative literature. The method used is descriptive qualitative because the data analyzed in the form of words or sentences. Data sources came from in-depth interviews with several informants. Data collection techniques used by researchers are observation, interviews, recording, recording, documentation, transcript techniques, and transliteration techniques. To obtain valid data, researchers used source triangulation by comparing information obtained from several different informants. The results of this study indicate that there is a linkage between the term narrative structure and function in the legend of Pari Temple and Sumur Temple. The most prominent characteristic between the two temples is that the Pari Temple is always synonymous with places of worship for Hindus, while the Sumur Temple is used as a place to take water to purify oneself before worshiping at Pari Temple.
