Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the improvement of the ability to write fable texts using the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning model for seventh grade students of MTs Al-Quran Harsallakum Bengkulu City. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method with the Hopkins model. This study consisted of two cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages, namely, planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. The technique of collecting data uses test, observation, and observation techniques. The data analysis technique in the study was to provide a value or score on the fable text written by students, as well as an assessment of the activities of students and teachers in learning to write fable texts carried out by researchers and peers. The results showed that there was an increase in teacher activity cycle I 87.50% to 100%. Student activity also increased in the first cycle based on obeserver observations, namely 4.56% and the rater at 4.22%. Whereas in the ability to write fable text for students of class VII.G MTs Al Quran Harsallakum Bengkulu City experienced an increase in writing fable texts using the Creative Problem Solving (CPS) learning model, seen in cycle I the average score of students was 73.15 with a sufficient category. and increased in cycle II with an average value of 84.35 good category.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out and investigate the use of reading strategies used by students in different grades of MA Darul Ishlah (Al-Azhaar Boarding School Lubuklinggau). The study employed a mixed method (quantitative and qualitative). The total number of the participants in this study was 108 students which come from class X is 53 students, class XI is 25 students, and the last class XII is 30 students. The instruments of this research were questionnaire and interview. The data were analyzed by using percentage formula. The major findings are, first, all students in different grades were medium in level of use for all the strategies. Second, they only used some strategy in reading comprehension, because there are some strategy was difficult for them to apply in reading comprehension and the strategy was not teach explicitly. For instance, in the first grade students in global reading strategy rarely used memorized, read aloud, guessing, and summary. Meanwhile, While, the most frequently reading strategy used by students in different grade is global reading strategy, then following by problem-solving reading strategy and the last is support reading strategy.

Abstract

Online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic has become a substitute solution for face-to-face learning. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to describe the online learning process, problems in online learning, and online learning strategies that are applied to Comprehensive Chinese Language Courses. This research method using mixed methods. Data collection techniques using observation techniques, questionnaires, and interviews. The respondents of this study were 90 people consisting of first, third, and five semester students of the Mandarin Education Study Program, the Teaching and Education Faculty, Universitas Tanjungpura, and 4 native lecturers from China. The results showed that native lecturers in the online learning process used the Ding Talk and Tencent (VooV) Meeting applications. Learning media used such as computers, laptops, and smartphones as well as internet networks are available but are not fully utilized in the online learning process. Meanwhile, the obstacles faced during online learning are the network problems used by students. The network used by students to take part in online learning is very unstable, resulting in students often going in and out of this online learning platform. To solve the problems that occur, lecturers often use a question and answer strategy to get feedback from students. There are also lecturers who use their spare time to individually guide students who are deemed lacking in learning.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused schools and universities to close so that online learning is one of the solutions to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. This study aims to describe students' perceptions of learning English online during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research used descriptive quantitative method. The subjects analyzed consisted of two different department groups at University of Prof. Dr. Hazairin, S.H in the 2019/2020 academic year. The number of respondents was 66 participants. The data collection technique in this study used a questionnaire distributed in the form of a Google form regarding student perceptions of the application of online English learning. The results of this study indicate that most students are interested in online learning. Online learning is considered to be more fun and flexible. In terms of the platform that is the medium for implementing online learning itself, the WhatsApp application is considered the best or dominant application and is very helpful for online learning during the pandemic. Therefore, this data proves that the research respondents had positive perceptions of online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to gain a deep understanding of women's violence in in the Cinta 2 Kodi novel by Asma Nadia. The research method used content analysis method. The data collection technique used documentation techniques in the form of the Cinta 2 Kodi novel by Asma Nadia. The data in this study are words, phrases and sentences about violence experienced by female characters in the Cinta 2 Kodi novel by Asma Nadia. Data analysis techniques by means of the data description stage, data reduction, data selection, and interpretation. Based on the research results, it was found that the forms of psychological violence against female figures, namely Aryani and Kartika. The psychological violence perpetrated by Aryani's husband caused Aryani to experience an undetectable illness due to prolonged stress. The characters Aryani and Kartika have a patient, sincere, hard work and courage in facing every test in their life. The excellence in packaging stories with conflicts in the form of psychological violence received by female characters in achieving success and the values of patience, sincerity, hard work, and courage that are presented make this novel worthy of being used as a literary reading material at the school and college level.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the novel building structure, the moral aspects of Tere Liye's Hafalan Shalat Delisa novel, and its relevance to literary learning in high school. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. The object of this research is the moral aspect. The data source in this study is the novel Hafalan Shalat Delisa by Tere Liye. The technique of collecting data uses library techniques, listening, taking notes, and interviews. Data analysis techniques using dialectical techniques. The results showed that (1) structural analysis resulted in the theme of this novel being unyielding, patient, and steadfast. The flow used is a progressive path. The main character is named Delisa and additional figures are Ummi Salamah, Kak Fatimah, Kak Aisyah, Kak Zahra, Abi Usman, Koh Acan, Ustadz Rahman, Ibu Guru Nur, Sersan Ahmed, Prajurit Smith/Salam, Suster Shopi, Tiur, Umam, and Kak Ubai. The setting in this novel is located in Lhok Nga, the aircraft carrier, and the hospital. The time frame is between 2004 and 2005. The social background includes life habits, traditions, and beliefs in religion; (2) moral aspects in the novel Hafalan Shalat Delisa include honesty, authentic values, responsibility, independence, and realistic and critical morals. Then, (3) the results of this study have relevance to literature learning in high school which is indicated by the existence of material about moral values ​​in novels as part of character education that must be learned by students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain a deep understanding of the external elements of discourse in the virus outbreak themed film. The film with the theme of the virus outbreak which was used as the object of research was entitled Contagion. This qualitative descriptive research uses discourse analysis method with qualitative content analysis. Collecting data using documentation techniques through literature study. The steps used in analyzing the external elements of discourse in the virus epidemic-themed film are as follows: 1) watching the film entitled The Contagion carefully and repeatedly in order to understand its content and meaning, then making a synopsis of the film, 2) recording quotations - text quotes, 3) analyzing the external elements of discourse in the citation of the film text, 4) discussing and interpreting the research results obtained, 5) formulating and drawing conclusions, and 6) compiling research reports. The validity of research data by means of member checks, accuracy, and adequacy of theories related to the object of research. The results show that the external elements that build discourse in the film The Contagion, which have 12 implicatures with details of 11 data are conversational implicatures or it can be said that conventional implicatures and 1 non-conventional implicature data, namely implications that must draw conclusions based on certain phenomena or situations, then there are 5 presupposition data are included in the factive type, 1 existential data, 5 counterfactual data and 2 non-factive data, then in the context 9 physical context data and 4 socio-psychological context data are found.

Abstract

In listening to speeches sometimes there is a misunderstanding in interpreting the meaning of the speech in question. Through deixis can help listeners to understand the intended meaning of utterances in speech. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to describe the types of deixis in speeches delivered by Mike Pompeo and Retno Marsudi. This study used a qualitative method using descriptive analysis as a data analysis technique. Data collection techniques used documentation techniques sourced from speeches by Mike Pompeo and Retno Marsudi. The research data was collected from 6 speeches sourced from 3 speeches delivered by Mike Pompeo and 3 speeches delivered by Retno Marsudi. The data analysis technique is by identifying and interpreting all types of deixis in speeches, classifying the types of deixis found in ministerial speeches, and making conclusions. The results show that there are five types of deixis found in Mike Pompeo speech, namely: people deixis, time deixis, place deixis, social deixis, and discourse deixis. Meanwhile, in Retno Marsudi speech, only 4 types of deixis were found, namely; people deixis, time deixis, social deixis, and discourse deixis. Differences are shown in the use of place deixis. The most dominant deixis used is person deixis in both speeches. Thus, the dominant type of deixis in speech can reflect the relationship between language structure and context that is not separated and must be communicated contextually and pragmatically. When listening to a speech, listeners can identify several types of deixis and make it easier for listeners to know the types of deixis in the speech.

Abstract

Nowadays technology and information are experiencing rapid development so that computer-based technology can be applied to obtain information, especially in education. The internet provides many applications for integrating technology in learning. In the current era, human interaction activities can use innovative information or communication networks. In the current era, human interaction activities can use innovative information or communication networks. One of the media that can be integrated into learning is the use of Youtube media. The purpose of this study was to describe the extent to which Youtube can be used as a learning medium for writing poetry. This research method is descriptive qualitative with the number of respondents as many as 40 students. The data collection was done through poetry writing test sheet. The findings of this study are that the Youtube teaching media used are in line with the interests of students, which are currently one of the main goals of the millennial generation to seek various educational content in the form of videos, to create creativity and quality in writing poetry. The results of this study also revealed that during the learning process using Youtube media, students were seen actively writing poetry which was quite creative and had a different writing style from each work produced. The findings of this study recommend using Youtube as a medium in the literature learning process.

Abstract

Rambang is a part of the province of South Sumatra. Rambang has a wealth of diverse literature and culture, one of which is the songs Naseb Anak Mude and Tige Serangkai in Ujan Mas Village, Muara Enim Regency. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to describe the structure of the oral literature of the songs Naseb Anak Mude and Tige Serangkai. The research method uses qualitative content analysis methods. The research data collection technique used documentation techniques obtained by recording oral literature of the Naseb Anak Mude and Tige Serangkai songs in Ujan Mas Village, Muara Enim Regency. Based on the results of the study, it shows that the Naseb Anak Mude and Tige Serangkai songs in Ujan Mas Village, Muara Enim Regency have a unique structure, especially the physical structure which has a meter shape, meaning that the form of the song does not change, both from the type of rhyme ab, ab and in terms of rows only consists of four lines.
