Abstract

This study aims to explore coping strategies used by parents’ of children with mosaic sex chromosome Disorders of Sex Development (DSD). The study applied the sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach that collected quantitative data prior to qualitative data.  Participants were parents of the affected patients diagnosed with DSD with the following karyotype XX/XY, X/XY, XYY, or XXY variants. In total, 14 mothers and 12 fathers of 14 patients with a mosaic sex chromosome DSD participated in this study. We used the Indonesian version of BRIEF COPE to collect quantitative data on coping strategies. Furthermore, an invidual interview was conducted to all participants to elaborate the coping strategies applied by parents in raising their children. The data analysis identified the four most preferred parental coping strategies:  religion, positive reframing, acceptance, and active coping whereas the least preferred coping strategies were humor, substance use, and behavior disengagement. Mothers and fathers in the study did not significantly differ in applying their coping strategies (p>.05). The study suggests health practitioners working with parents of patients affected with mosaic sex chromosome DSD to promote the religion, positive reframing, acceptance, and active coping strategies to facilitate a better acceptance of the affected children.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to explore the psychological well-being of individuals who were blind in early adulthood (late blind), particularly to understand the changes and the antecedents of their psychological well-being. Two adults, aged 20-40 years, who were blind in early adulthood, had participated in this study. This is a qualitative phenomenological study. Data were analyzed using the interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA). The results showed that late blind brought several impacts on subjects. Both subjects identified a decreased communication skill, a reduced movement ability, and negative emotional response in the beginning of blindness as the antecedents of their psychological well-being. The increased of psychological well-being was obtained due to social support -in terms of emotional, informational, and instrumental support- from family, partner, friends, and community. Although both subjects applied different coping strategies, they both reported an increased psychological well-being after they reached self-acceptance dimension. This study revealed selfacceptance as initial dimension that helped subjects to reach other dimensions of psychological well-being: life goals, independence, environment mastery, personal growth, and positive relationships with others.

Abstract

Employee participation is essential for the effectiveness of the organization. The employees mentioned are not only reliable but also loyal, committed, and willing to contribute better performance, or in other words, employees with employee engagement. Employees having high level of engagement are able to help the adaptation of the organization to the surrounding communities. The research was aimed to determine the correlation between perceived organizational support and employee engagement. Data collection was conducted based on Perceived Organizational Support Scale/POS (α = .931) and Employee Engagement Scale (α = .903). The hypothesis of the research was the more positive perceived organizational support results in the higher employee engagement. Data were analyzed using simple regression. The result shows a positive correlation between perceived organizational support and employee engagement (r = .631; p < .001). It means that the hypothesis has been accepted. In the research, POS contributed effectively as much as 39.8% to employee engagement.

Abstract

Any married couple willing to have satisfaction in their marriage. However, not all couples could achievesatisfaction in their marriage. The quality of marriage was determined by three attachments style; secureattachment style, avoidant attachment style, and anxiety attachments style. This study aimed to investigate therelationship between attachment and marital satisfaction for early adulthood in Banda Aceh. This study used purposive sampling technique and selected 120 subjects (27 male and 93 female), mean of age 30.75 years old, mean of age marriage was 5-7 years, mean of children is 2. Data collected using ENRICH Marital Satisfaction (EMS) which developed by Fowers and Olson (15 statements, α= .962), and attachment scale (consist of 30items) compiled by researcher based on the theory of Hazan and Shaver (secure attachment α= .864, avoidant α= .877, anxiety α= .691). The results showed that there is a positive and significant correlation between secure attachment and marital satisfaction (rxy=.455; p =.000; p< .001). The result also showed that there is a negative and significant correlation between insecure attachment and marital satisfaction (rxy avoidant = - .460 ; p= .000; p< .001, rxy anxiety = - .231 ; p= .011; p< .05). Among the three attachment, secure attachment style has the highest significant relationship with marital satisfaction. It meant that the higher score of secure attachment style obtained, the higher satisfaction obtained by these couples.

Abstract

Dengan bertambahnya umur nampaknya faktor resiko menderita demensia juga akan meningkat. Ada berbagai macam instrumen yang dapat digunakan untuk melakukan screening, akan tetapi biasanya dibutuhkan seorang ahli yang terlatih untuk mengadministrasikannya. Untuk itulah, peneliti pada tulisan ini ingin memberikan pilihan lain dari penggunaan instrumen screening untuk demensia, yang dinamakan Clock Drawing Test. Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah memberikan gambaran mengenai pengadministrasian Clock Drawing Test di Indonesia dan fungsinya untuk mengetahui tanda-tanda orang lanjut usia yang mengalami demensia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan melibatkan 133 orang responden. Hasil penelitian menggambarkan bahwa tes menggambar jam mudah diadministrasikan dan tidak ada penolakan dari responden. Pendidikan dan jenis pekerjaan tidak mempengaruhi administrasi dari tes tersebut.Kata Kunci : clock drawing test, demensia, lansiaPermalink :

Abstract

Measuring school well-being in elementary school student is important. The experience of students at school will affect their perception, motivation and hope for their academic life in the future. We used Tripartite School Well-Being Model, based on the interaction among three aspects, namely school satisfaction, positive affect and negative affect. The aim of the study is to identify factors predicting the emergence of student’s positive affect and negative affect in elementary school. A total of 118 elementary school students of Class 6 in Bandung took a part in this study as respondent. The variables in this study were measured using three questionnaires: School Satisfaction, Positive Affect Student at School, and Negative Affect Student at School. Descriptive and inferential statistics through regression analysis was conducted to test the hypothesis. The results show that peer relationship, teacher-student relationship, and academic learning significantly contribute to build the positive affect of the student. Whereas, only the peer relationship predicted the negative affect of the student. This finding brings some practical implication for the educational process. The integrated multidimensional program which involves teacher, parents, peers, and student is crucial to promote student well-being at school.

Abstract

The use of a mediator variable which mediates the effect of treatment with the output variable in the context of experimental research is highly recommended. By involving the mediator variable, the mechanism of treatment effect given to the output variable can be explained in more detail. This study aimed to disseminate the use of a mediator variable in experimental research which is rare used among researchers in Indonesia. Two mediation analysis procedures was applied to analyze the effect of Depression Prevention Training to reduced depression symptoms among adolescents. This study employed pretest–posttest experimental design. Participants were divided into two groups and the treatment was given to the treatment groups. The variable defined as mediator was coping skill. Firstly, Baron-Kenny procedure was employed and then followed by causal analysis procedure. The analysis revealed that coping skill was proved as a mediator between the effect of treatment on depression. Abstract

This study examined the role of interactional factors on family well-being, such as mother-child interaction, father involvement in parenting and perceived social support in the family. Respondents (N = 219) aged 17-35 years, completed an online survey assessment and answered open questions about family well-being. The results of the study show that the quality of parent-child interaction in the family is considered to play an important role in achieving family well-being, in addition to the perceived social support in the family. Family well-being is the results of the dynamics of interaction within the family which consists of cooperation, acceptance, trust, ritual, family vision and mission, also mutual love. Statistical calculations and theoretical discussions in the perspective of the Family System Theory (FST) are presented in full articles. The results of this study can be an early stage in exploring the parent-child interaction process and the extent of the role of media technology in family well-being in Indonesia.

Abstract

The English competency is one of the most needed ability that have to be masterd in this globalization era.Thissituation makes the English lesson in Indonesia was taught since Elementary school. The English lesson focusedon the ability to master the vocabulary that could support reading, listening, writing and speaking. The aim of thisreasearch is to know how far that the multisensory method effectiveness to increase the memorizing ability of Englishvocabulary. Subject’s characteristic is the first grade students of elementary school aged 6-7 years old. This research usequasi experimental with non-randomized pretest- posttest control group design and involve 66 subjects that devided into experimental group and control group. The treatment that given in this research use the multisensory method.After the last manipulation, subjects expected to master 30 words. The examination of hypothesis used Paired SampleT-Test and the result of Asymp. Sig is 0,000 (p<0,05). This result acknowledge that multisensory method is effective toincrease the memorizing ability of English vocabulary. Based on this result, the elementary educater should teach theelementary student with the unique method that appropriate to children condition and development, stimulate thememorizing ability considering the developmental factors and use an interesting way of teaching.Keywords: Multisensory method, memorizing ability of English vocabulary, First Grade student of elementary school

Abstract

Therefore the aim of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between the perception of the child's mathematical ability and attitude of course I Maths in the mother of program participants learn Maths at First TK Kristen Tri Tunggal Semarang. The population of this research is the mother of program participants learn Maths at First TK Kristen Tri Tunggal Semarang. This study population of 51 mothers and 44 based on table Krecjie samples obtained with Simple Random Sampling technique. Scale used is Mother Attitude Scale of the program I Maths (26 aitems, α = 0,947) and Perceptions Scale for Math Ability Children (21 aitems, α = 0,881). Simple linear regression analysis showed the correlation coefficient = 0.674 and p = 0.000 (p <0.05). Rxy values indicate the direction of positive relations between the two variables is positive, which means that the more positive perceptions of mathematics ability, the more positive the child's mother is also the attitude toward the program I Maths, conversely the more negative perceptions of math ability children also increasingly negative attitude of mothers towards the program I Maths. The coefficient of determination of 0.455 indicates that the perception of the child's mathematical ability to contribute effectively amounted to 45.50% of maternal attitude toward the program I Maths. percentage of 54.50% can be explained by other factors such as financial, learning duration, the physical condition of children, and others.Keywords : mother, I Maths program, perception, attitude, ability in mathematics.Permalink :
