Abstract

Nonsuicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) is a common condition among adolescents; one of the causes is the inability of individuals to regulate their emotions, resulting in maladaptive coping. Mindfulness-based intervention- is a promising approach to addressing emotional regulation problems in adolescents with NSSI. This case study aims to determine the effect of mindfulness-based intervention, namely Learning to BREATHE (L2B; Broderick & Metz, 2009), in overcoming NSSI in adolescents. The study focused on the case of a 13-year-old girl in 7th grade who underwent a psychological examination for exhibiting risky behaviors (drinking alcohol and smoking), including self-injurious behavior (nonsuicidal). The results of this case study indicate that the L2B program can increase participants' emotion regulation and trait mindfulness and reduce rumination, all related to NSSI conditions. After the intervention, participants gained understanding and various new strategies using a mindfulness approach that can be used to manage emotions and difficult situations until they can be managed and faced more calmly. Participants also feel more sensitive to body sensations and what is happening around them, can spot stressful or intense situations, and know how to react to them.

Abstract

Father involvement in child care is very important for child development. Based on several studies, father involvement can affect child development. The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of how the involvement of working fathers in providing care for children who have dyslexia. The method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The research participants were three fathers. Data obtained through interviews with openended questions via zoom. The result showed that the three participants still took their time to be involved in parenting, then on the other hand, it was also found that the difficulties experiences by fathers in caring for dyslexic children were due to limited interaction communication skills and behavioral issues of dyslexic children.

Abstract

The prevalence of depression among college students is high. One of the factors that can exacerbate depressive symptoms is having interpersonal issues, such as a conflict with parents. Parent-children communication is challenging in Asian cultures due to family hierarchies and ambiguous communication. The condition is prone to misunderstandings when there is no empathic communication between parents and children. Empathy skill may be advantageous since it helps college students better understand their parents. To alleviate depressive symptoms, an empathy intervention is essential. This study investigates how empathy can lessen the symptoms of depression. A quasi-experimental one-group design (n = 9) was conducted in this study. The inclusion criteria for participants are college students in Indonesia with depressive symptoms (cut-off = 10). The participant who met the criteria received a total of five intervention sessions. Participants were recruited via social media and completed the Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Interpersonal Reactivity Index, and Satisfaction With Life Scale before and after the intervention to assess the change in depressive symptoms. Quantitative and qualitative result changes were examined. Using Repeated Measure Anova, depressive symptom is decreased (F(1.06,7.46) = 7.88, p = .02, η2 = .53) and satisfaction with life score is increased (F(2,14) = 8.39, p = .04, η2 = .54) after intervention. Furthermore, there is no significant change in empathic level (F(2,14) = 0.56, p = .58, η2 = .07). Qualitative data showed that empathic communication skills assist them in understanding their parents' intentions, improving their stress tolerance, and accepting their family situation. Therefore, empathy intervention benefits individuals with depressive symptoms who have conflicts with their parents.

Abstract

Problematic Smartphone Use (PSU) is when someone cannot control their smartphone use and is uncomfortable when not using it. The purpose of his study is to describe the correlation between smartphone use and Problematic Smartphone Use (PSU) in early adulthood. The population in this study was 74 people consisting of 21 male and 53 female students aged 18 - 24 years old and owning a smartphone. The research method that employs is quantitative with a correlational design. Data was collected using Smartphone Usage Questionnaire General and Absent Minded (SUQ-G&A) developed by Marty-Dugas and Problematic Mobile Phone Use Scale (PMPUS) questionnaire developed by PamukAtli compiled into the Google Form apps, and smartphone for as long as 49 hours per week are individuals with PMPUS according to the validity and the reliability correlation between Smartphone Use and PSU (r= 0.920 & = 0.000) and screentime data log as additional data to measure the duration of smartphone use. Individuals who own a smartphone can access their smartphone data log through the digital well-being feature to increase individual awareness of smartphone use so that it does not become problematic.

Abstract

Kebermaknaan hidup menjadi salah satu hal yang perlu diperhatikan dalam kehidupan remaja. Apabila kebermaknaan hidup berhasil dipenuhi, individu akan merasakan kehidupan yang berarti dan mencapai kebahagiaan. Lingkungan keluarga berperan sebagai lingkungan pertama dan utama tempat berkembangnya individu, begitupun dengan proses pencapaian kebermaknaan hidup. Akan tetapi, terdapat kondisi tidak ideal dimana remaja tumbuh dan berkembang di panti asuhan. Oleh karena itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara spiritualitas dan kebermaknaan hidup pada remaja yang tinggal di panti asuhan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif dengan melibatkan sebanyak 75 partisipan yang dipilih menggunakan teknik total sampling. Data diperoleh dengan wawancara menggunakan kuesioner kebermaknaan hidup dan spiritualitas yang telah ada dan dimodifikasi oleh peneliti. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan yang positif signifikan antara variabel spiritualitas dan kebermaknaan hidup. Terdapat kecenderungan bahwa semakin tinggi spiritualitas maka cenderung semakin tinggi kebermaknaan hidup. Spiritualitas dinilai memiliki andil dalam proses pencapaian akan kebermaknaan hidup pada remaja di panti asuhan. Adapun variabel lainnya yang berkaitan dengan kebermaknaan hidup remaja di panti asuhan memerlukan diskusi dan penelitian lebih lanjut. Kata Kunci: spiritualitas, kebermaknaan hidup, remaja, panti asuhan

Abstract

Dampak negatif dan kenyataan bahwa orang tua sebagai pelaku toxic parenting sangat menyakitkan bagi remaja, secara otomatis remaja melakukan strategi koping untuk mengatasi dampak negatif dan rasa sakit yang dirasakan. Penelitian ini berfokus untuk mengetahui pengalaman dan pemaknaan terhadap toxic parenting beserta strategi koping yang digunakan oleh remaja. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan fenomenologi interpretatif. Responden penelitian berjumlah 3 orang yang berusia 17 dan 19 tahun. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner dan wawancara semi terstruktur. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa toxic parenting yang dialami berupa kekerasan fisik dan verbal, tidak didukung dan diapresiasi, tidak dapat berbagi cerita dengan orang tua, dikekang, diintimidasi, serta dibandingkan. Toxic parenting berdampak pada psikologis dan fisiologis individu. Responden memaknai toxic parenting sebagai perilaku normal, perilaku yang tidak dibenarkan, dan dominan berdampak negatif. Responden menggunakan dua pendekatan strategi koping yaitu berfokus pada masalah dan emosi. Kesimpulan penelitian ini yaitu remaja dapat menggunakan strategi koping yang memberikan dampak positif.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peranan self-efficacy dan kelekatan orang tua terhadap motivasi belajar siswa di SMK Sepuluh Nopember Sidoarjo. Variabel pada penelitian ini adalah self-efficacy dan kelekatan orang tua sebagai variabel bebas (X) dan motivasi belajar sebagai variabel terikat (Y). Desain penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif korelasional dengan sampel sebanyak 302 siswa dengan memakai teknik stratifed random sampling. Instrumen penelitan ini menggunakan skala adaptasi dengan model likert pada motivasi belajar, self-efficacy dan kelekatan orang tua. Skala motivasi belajar diadaptasi dari Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) dengan reliabilitas Cronbach’s Alpha sebesar 0,936. Adapun skala self-efficacy diadaptasi dari self-efficacy Questionnaire in Youth dengan reliabilitas Cronbach’s Alpha sebesar 0,926. Skala kelekatan diadaptasi dari Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) dengan reliabilitas Cronbach’s Alpha sebesar 0,899. Hasil analisis data mengguanakan linier berganda menunjukkan secara simultan bahwa self-efficacy dan kelekatan orang tua memiliki peranan yang signifikan terhadap motivasi belajar. Peranan self-efficacy dan kelekatan orang tua terhadap motivasi belajar sebesar 11,1%. Analisis secara parsial menunjukkan bahwa self-efficacy memiliki peranan terhadap motivasi belajar dengan nilai sig. sebesar 0,000 (sig.<0,05) dan pada kelekatan orang tua memiliki peranan terhadap motivasi belajar dengan nilai sig. 0,024 (sig.<0,05). Berdasarkan hasil analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa secara simultan self-efficacy dan kelekatan orang tua memiliki peranan yang signifikan terhadap motivasi belajar siswa.

Abstract

This study aimed at overthinking in early and final-year students from UINSU and non-UINSU students. This research approach is a mixed method (Mixed Quantitative and Qualitative Methods). Both approaches are descriptive. Quantitative research, in the process of collecting data by distributing questionnaires online using the Google form and distributed from 12-20 February 2023. The results of distributing the online questionnaires were 200 respondents. Two measurement scales are used in descriptive quantitative research, namely "PTQ and PSWQ." Data processing in descriptive quantitative was assisted by SPSS version 22. Descriptive qualitative research collected data through interviews with the five informants from UINSU students in semesters 2, 4, 6, and 8. The interview process was conducted on February 24, 2023. Qualitative research This description helps validate the results of descriptive quantitative research. The validation carried out in this study used a structured research interview of 7 questions. Based on the measuring scale, namely the PTQ and PSWQ scales, the study results are that overthinking in early and final level students has the same categorization position, namely moderate categorization. Therefore, it is true that overthinking for students in the initial and final grades is true. This aligns with the validation results of research interviews with a descriptive qualitative approach to the five informants. That student will never be separated from overthinking both students in the early and final levels. For initial and final year students who experience the overthinking phase more often, namely final year students.

Abstract

Researchers intend to conduct research with the aim of knowing the relationship between fear of missing out (FoMO) on compulsive buying behavior. The objectives of this study are: To see the relationship between Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and compulsive buying behavior among Instagram users at the Faculty of Communication at Bina Darma University Palembang, aged 18 to 25 years. The research approach used in this research is quantitative. Data collection in this study was conducted in a survey using a scale to describe trends, attitudes and opinions. The population taken by the researcher was Communication Faculty students who actively played Instagram at Bina Darma University Palembang. The overall sample is 149 respondents. Data analysis was carried out to test hypotheses to determine conclusions in order to achieve research objectives. Based on the results of the research and discussion that has been carried out, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between fear of missing out and compulsive buying of students at the Faculty of Communication, University of Bina Darma. The majority of Bina Darma University communication faculty students have a high sense of compulsive buying and fear of missing out.

Abstract

Penerimaan ditandai dengan sikap positif, pengakuan atau penghargaan terhadap nilai-nilai individu termasuk pengakuan atas perilakunya serta tidak menyalahkan orang lain dan terjebak dalam kemarahan atas keterbatasan yang dimiliki. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan proses penerimaan diri dari anak yang kehilangan anggota keluarga akibat COVID-19 dan mengetahui faktorfaktor yang mempengaruhi penerimaan diri. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi deskriptif. Partisipan penelitian terdiri dari 3 orang remaja dengan kriteria 1) usia 1822 tahun dan 2) kehilangan anggota keluarga akibat COVID-19 setidaknya selama setahun. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa wawancara dengan teknik semi-structured. Penelitian ini melihat penerimaan diri berdasarkan 5 tahap penerimaan yaitu denial, anger, bargaining, depression, dan acceptance. Hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa seluruh partisipan telah melalui lima tahap tersebut dan mencapai penerimaan atas kehilangan anggota keluarga akibat COVID-19. Self-awareness, empati, dukungan emosi dari lingkungan dan agama ikut berperan sebagai faktor yang membantu partisipan mencapai penerimaan diri pasca kehilangan anggota keluarga
