Abstract

Due to its flexibility, online instruction has become the new normal in education. Utilizing various digital tools, learners can engage in online learning activities. One of the e-learning platforms is asynchronous e-learning for Madrasah, which provides a flexible and engaging learning environment. This study aimed to explore the experiences and motivations of EFL learners who used E-learning in an English course. This qualitative case study used observation, interviews, and document review.  A purposeful sampling technique was used to recruit 15 students to participate. The data was validated using triangulation of methods and data sources. EFL learners' experiences with E-learning in English subjects were classified into five categories: (1) course information access, (2) Autonomous learning, (3) Adaptation to technology, 4) Web-based learning system, and (5) Technical support. Furthermore, the motivations of EFL learners to use e-learning in an English course can be categorized into two groups: (1) Intrinsic motivation and (2) Extrinsic motivation. Pedagogically, e-learning has provided new experiences for students; therefore, e-learning should be adopted in this new normal era.

Abstract

The transition from offline to online mode causes problems in education, especially in vocational high schools. These problems appear since learners are still adapting to the most recent instructional mode; online learning. This study aimed to look at problems of internal as well as external faced by EFL learners in online learning and the strategies to overcome those problems. This qualitative study with phenomenology was carried out. Ten participants from junior high school students were recruited by using a purposive sampling technique. The result showed that intelligence, interest, and motivation become their internal problems. While technology and pedagogical e-learning become external factors. The strategies used by the students were consulting dictionaries for meaning and pronunciation, navigating the course contents, discussing with peers and family, reviewing course materials, engaging in some hobbies, utilizing additional applications, and setting up timetables to study. The present study offers significant contributions to the advancement of online instruction as a whole by providing insightful information.

Abstract

This research presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education, focusing on trends, patterns, and implications within the scholarly literature. By examining journal articles published between 2010 and 2024, this study reveals a significant increase in publications on AI integration in EFL education, particularly after 2019, possibly influenced by the shift to online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis identifies China as the most productive country in this field, followed by Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, the study highlights key authors and documents contributing to the discourse, shedding light on the most cited articles and prolific authors. The findings underscore the growing interest and potential of AI in transforming EFL education, offering insights for educators, researchers, policymakers, and technology developers to leverage the transformative power of AI effectively. Recommendations for future research directions and considerations for publishing in relevant journals are also provided. Despite the limitations of relying solely on the Scopus database, this research sets the stage for further exploration of AI integration in EFL education and emphasizes the need for continued investigation and innovation in this evolving field.

Abstract

This research was carried out with the purpose to determine whether there was any significant improvement in students' reading comprehension achievement demonstrated by using GIST strategy at the eighth graders students of MTs Al-Hikmah Palembang and whether there was any significant difference on students' reading comprehension achievement taught by using GIST strategy and lecturing method at the eighth graders students of MTs Al-Hikmah Palembang. This study was conducted at MTs Al-Hikmah Palembang. The researchers employed a true-experimental research method in this study. The researchers selected the sample with the cluster random sampling. This study concentrated on eight-grade students at MTs Al-Hikmah Palembang. In this study, the total sample was 48 students which included experimental and control class. SPSS 25 software was used to analysed the students' pre- and post-test results. From the results, the p-value was .000 with df=23 (2.069) and the t-value was -13.135. Because the p-output was less than 0.05 and the t-output was above the t-table (2.069), it may be assumed that there were significantly higher gains from students' pre-test to post-test scores in the experimental class taught implementing the GIST strategy. On the basis of the results, the p-output was.000 with df=46 (1.916), and the t-output was 4.063. The null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Because the p-output was less than 0.05 and the t-output exceeded the t-table (1.916). The findings of this study demonstrate that the GIST strategy improved students' reading comprehension achievement in recount text at eighth-grade students of MTs Al-Hikmah Palembang, while there was a significant difference between the experimental and control classes, as demonstrated through the post-test results, with the experimental class better than the control class.

Abstract

The study aims to explore the alignment between English summative tests and prescribed learning objectives within curriculum documents, highlighting areas of both conformity and inconformity. Employing meticulous analysis, the research identifies instances where test content aligns with specified learning objectives, while also pinpointing discrepancies or deviations. Through qualitative analysis, the study examines the degree of alignment between test content and prescribed objectives. The findings underscore numerous instances of alignment, particularly among test items correlating directly with prescribed topics and skills. Nevertheless, the research also uncovers areas of incongruity, indicating potential gaps in the assessment process. This study emphasizes the significance of rigorous test design and validation procedures to ensure that summative assessments accurately reflect intended curriculum standards and effectively measure student learning outcomes within the Merdeka curriculum context.
