Abstract

This study aims to comprehensively describe the problems and solutions in Nahwu instruction among Grade X students at MAN 3 Cirebon. The research focuses on the conceptual difficulties students experience and the factors that influence the learning process. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, using in-depth interviews and classroom observations involving thirty students. The results indicate that the students’ main difficulties fall into four categories: (1) confusion in distinguishing types of ḍamīr and identifying their referents, (2) difficulty in recognizing jamā‘ taksīr patterns due to the wide variety of wazn and morphological forms, (3) complexity in applying the rules of ‘adad–ma‘dūd, and (4) inability to determine i‘rāb resulting from weak foundational understanding of Nahwu. These difficulties are influenced by internal factors such as diverse educational backgrounds from Islamic boarding schools, limited experience with Nahwu, and students’ physical and psychological conditions, as well as external factors such as mismatched teaching styles and an unconducive classroom environment. The study also identifies several strategic efforts, such as scaffolding, rule visualization, and gradual practice, as recommendations for improving Nahwu instruction. Therefore, this study addresses a gap in previous research that has paid insufficient attention to students’ learning experiences through the perspective of the meanings they construct for themselves when facing difficulties in learning Nahwu.

Abstract

Digital quiz-based learning platforms such as Kahoot and Quizizz are increasingly popular in Arabic language instruction. This study aims to describe the use of Kahoot and Quizizz in Arabic language learning, analyze their impact on learning outcomes, and identify the obstacles teachers face. The study uses a qualitative approach and a Systematic Literature Review, following the PRISMA guidelines. Articles were obtained through searches of the Google Scholar and Crossref databases, covering the period 2020 to 2025, then selected using inclusion criteria and quality assessment, resulting in 10 relevant articles. The synthesis results show that Kahoot and Quizizz are used as interactive quiz media to reinforce mufrodat, qawaid, maharah istima, and writing skills, making learning more varied and interesting. Most studies reported increases in average scores, learning completeness, motivation, and student engagement after integrating these two media. However, implementation is still hampered by teachers' digital competence, limited infrastructure, and a lack of time and training. This study emphasizes the need for institutional support to ensure the optimal use of digital gamification media in Arabic language learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop flashcard learning media based on dual coding theory to improve Arabic vocabulary mastery in beginner students. This study uses a research and development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study was conducted on beginner students at the Sa'diyah Dormitory, Sunan Drajat Islamic Boarding School, Lamongan. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, documentation, and tests. Data analysis was descriptive, and the effectiveness test used a t-test. The study's results showed that the developed flashcard media had a very high level of feasibility, with 96% from material experts and 95% from media experts. The effectiveness test showed a significant increase in students' Arabic vocabulary mastery, as evidenced by the t-test results, with a calculated t value (8.747) > t table (2.069). The use of flashcards in learning increased students' attention, motivation, and active participation in the Arabic vocabulary learning process. In addition, the effectiveness test results showed an increase in vocabulary mastery after using dual-coding-based flashcard media. Thus, flashcard media based on dual coding theory is considered feasible and effective as a learning medium for improving Arabic vocabulary mastery among beginner students.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of Book Creator, a digital media platform, in teaching Maharah Kalam Arabic to students at Muhammadiyah 4 High School in Jakarta and to determine its contribution to the learning process and outcomes. Using a qualitative descriptive case study approach, descriptive data were obtained through written or oral statements from their participation and behavioral observations. The research subjects were students in class XI IPS 1. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that implementing Book Creator enabled a more interactive and creative learning experience and supported student engagement in the learning process. This media helped students compose dialogues, practice pronunciation, and introduce Arabic vocabulary, while providing space for creativity and collaboration. The discussion shows that Book Creator contributes to the development of speaking skills and strengthens students' cognitive and affective aspects. These findings suggest that this digital media supports more dynamic and flexible Arabic language learning and facilitates various student learning styles through multimedia.

Abstract

Arabic morphology (Sharf) is highly complex and opaque, frequently overloading the cognitive capacity of non-native learners. Instruction dominated by conventional rote learning methods is highly susceptible to triggering academic burnout and demotivation. This study employed a mixed-methods, quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of the sarf.One computational morphology platform on students' cognitive achievement, learning motivation, and practical experiences. Participants consisted of 32 students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, divided into an experimental group (n=16) and a control group (n=16). Data were analyzed using ANCOVA for cognitive test scores, non-parametric tests for the Self-Determination Theory (SDT)-based motivation questionnaire, and thematic analysis for interview data. The results demonstrated that sarf.One significantly improved students' cognitive achievement (p < 0,001;  = 0,321) by functioning as a visual scaffold that offloads low-level computational burdens. In the affective domain, the intervention yielded a moderate effect size (Hedges' g = 0.534), effectively reducing anxiety and fostering learning autonomy, although statistical significance was hindered by a ceiling effect. In practice, the platform had a positive impact on students' word search speed and accuracy. However, the research implementation also revealed several challenges, such as students' initial cognitive disorientation during interface adaptation. Furthermore, the application's shortcomings, including the lack of contextual meaning features and the discrepancy between its conjugation order and local methods, caused temporary confusion. Qualitative analysis found that students positioned the platform as a complementary assistant, with the ultimate epistemic verification authority (tahqīq) remaining with the lecturer. This study concludes that sarf.one is a transformative pedagogical instrument that urgently requires future improvements, including the addition of translation features and alignment of its interface with the Nusantara tashrīf tradition.

Abstract

This research aims to examine how animacy operates in the Arabic grammatical system by analyzing various linguistic phenomena that reflect an animacy hierarchy in sentence structure. This research is literature research using a qualitative approach. The data in this study consist of Arabic sentences that use the concept of animacy. The data sources include various documents, including books, dictionaries, articles, and scientific journals, related to the phenomenon of animacy in Arabic. Data collection techniques involve documenting data sources. The research finds that animacy is one of the features that strongly influence the grammatical system of Arabic, including subject-predicate agreement, the use of pronomina, the selection of relative conjunctions (ism mawṣūl), the formation of plurals, and strategies to avoid ambiguity. Animacy is not only a marker of meaning but also manifests itself across various linguistic structures, reflecting an animacy hierarchy that regulates the relationships among form, meaning, and function in sentences.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the correlation between the use of an AI-assistant for translating Arabic texts and students' cognitive abilities in the Arabic Language Education (PBA) Study Program at Al-Falah As-Sunniyah University, Jember. Amid rapid digitalization, students have begun using artificial intelligence as an academic tool, yet its impact on cognitive capacity remains to be empirically tested. The research method employed is a quantitative correlational design, with a sample of 28 students selected via random sampling. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire and analyzed using Spearman’s Rho correlation test via SPSS. The results showed a mean value of 6.78 for the AI-Assistant variable and 8.12 for the cognitive ability variable. The instrument reliability test yielded a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.970. The correlation analysis produced a coefficient (r) of 0.988 with a significance value (p) < 0.001. This shows a strong, significant positive relationship between the use of an AI assistant and students' cognitive abilities. AI-Assistant does not weaken thinking power but rather functions as a cognitive partner that stimulates students' critical analysis in verifying translation results. These findings recommend the measured integration of AI into the Arabic language learning curriculum in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the denotative and connotative meanings found in the poem Risālah min Taḥt al-Mā’ by Nizar Qabbani. This research employs a descriptive, qualitative method, using Ahmad Mukhtar Umar’s semantic theory, to examine each stanza of the poem and reveal the meanings embedded in it. The primary data of this research is the poem itself, while the secondary data consist of relevant journals, books, and other supporting sources. The findings of this study reveal that the meaning of longing in the poem Risālah min Taḥt al-Mā’ emerges through a semantic analysis of the words and symbols employed by Nizar Qabbani. Through the mapping of denotative and connotative meanings, it was found that longing is not merely presented as physical distance of absence, but as an inner condition that torments, engulfs, and obstructs the poet’s communication with the beloved. The semantic analysis table indicates that each chosen diction contains layers of meaning that reinforce the portrayal of longing as an emotional experience. Thus, this study demonstrates that the semantic approach is effective in identifying and explaining the construction of longing embedded within Qabbani’s poetic language, thereby fulfilling the research objective as stated in the title.

Abstract

Student boredom in Arabic language learning is a problem that leads to low participation and learning effectiveness, influenced by internal factors such as motivation, self-confidence, and language anxiety, as well as external factors such as teaching methods and the classroom environment. This study aims to analyze student participation and the factors causing boredom in Arabic language learning. This study employs a qualitative approach using field research conducted at MA Nurul Anwar Padomasan, involving 10 students from grades 10–12 and 1 Arabic language teacher. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with triangulation. The results indicate that student participation is evident but uneven, with students from Islamic boarding schools tending to be more active than those from other schools. Internal factors such as low self-confidence and language anxiety affect student engagement, while external factors, including monotonous lecture methods, an unproductive classroom environment, and the difficulty level of the material, are the primary causes of boredom. The use of interactive methods such as discussions, vocabulary games, dialogue, and icebreakers has proven effective in increasing student participation. Therefore, varied, interactive, and contextual learning strategies are needed to reduce.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing in religious sermons delivered after Ratib activities at Majelis Taklim Al Malikiy. The focus of this research is on language use as a medium for conveying religious messages and as a marker of religious identity in a non-formal religious context. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data consisting of the preacher’s utterances collected during Ratib activities. Data were collected through observation and note-taking and carefully transcribed to preserve the original context of the utterances. The results indicate that code-switching occurs when the preacher shifts from Indonesian to Arabic to adjust meanings to religious contexts and to emphasize certain messages. Meanwhile, code-mixing appears as the insertion of Arabic words, phrases, and expressions into Indonesian utterances, which serves to strengthen religious nuance and build emotional closeness with the audience. Overall, this study shows that code-switching and code-mixing function not merely as linguistic phenomena, but also as rhetorical strategies in religious preaching. Language plays an important role in constructing meaning, reinforcing religious identity, and enhancing the effectiveness of dakwah in non-formal religious settings.
