Abstract

Trichophyton rubrum is type of fungus that most often causes superficial fungal infections. Development of herbal ingredients as antifungal therapy is carried out to find alternative therapies for fungal infections. Bitter melon contains various compounds that have potential to be used as antifungals, including flavonoids and saponins. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of bitter melon extract (Momordica charantia L) on the growth of Trichopyton rubrum. This study used bitter melon extract at concentrations of 5%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Ketoconazole concentrations of 2% was used as a positive control. Pure cultures of Trichopyton rubrum were diluted using physiological NaCl. Fungal growth was observed microscopically and macroscopically. Results showed that Trichopyton rubrum grew at a concentration of 5% while at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% there was no Trichopyton rubrum growth. Bitter melon extract at a concentration of 25% had similar effect as ketoconazole 2%. Conclusion Bitter melon extract at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% had a similar effect to 2% ketoconazole in inhibiting the growth of Tricophyton rubrum.

Abstract

Background:  Mature teratoma is a germinal cell tumor that is commonly found in ovaries and testis. Mature teratoma in the lung region is a rare case. According to the literature there are only 67 cases worldwide starting from 1939 to 2007. There were one cases in Dr. Soetomo general hospital during January 2013 – December 2017.Objective: Mature teratoma in the lung region is a rare case. Presenting in a case report would be beneficial for pathology databaseCase Presentation: A 19 years old man came to hospital with shortness of breath within 3 months ago. It was followed with hemoptysis, trichoptysis and coughing out tooth. CT Scan examination showed an irregular walled cavity with semisolid component and calcification along with a description of "air cresent sign". In thoracotomy tumor excision obtained multilobulated mass size 8.5x6,8x5,6 cm, yellowish-gray white color, and firm consistency. There were also hair and tooth components. The microscopic representation shows pieces of lung tissue with tumor growth coated with squamous epithel with a stroma containing adnexal skin glands, fatty tissue, cartilage tissue, and serous glands (asinar). Discussion: Mature teratoma of the lung is one of the rare tumors, with symptoms of chest pain, hemoptysis, and trichoptysis. Mature teratoma of the lung is generally cystic and multiloculated, but can also be solid, encapsulated. On microscopic examination, shows a picture of various components of ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm. Conclusion: Mature teratoma of the lung is a rare tumor. Diagnosis was based from clinical findings, radiologic examination, and confirmed with histopathology and immunohistochemistry.

Abstract

Background: Post-COVID is a multifactorial disease that describes the residual effects of acute COVID-19 infection that are continuous or relapsing and in remission. The study found that 87% of people who recovered and were discharged from the hospital showed persistence of at least one symptom even within 60 days. COVID-19 patients who have bipolar disorder require therapeutic adjustments to avoid specific drug interactions between psychotropic drugs and those used in COVID-19 protocols. Objective: To determine the treatment of post-COVID patients with bipolar affective disorder. Methods: Collect and analyze research articles on Update Therapy for Post-COVID Syndrome Patients with Bipolar Affective Disorder. These articles were obtained by searching using Google Scholar, PubMed/NCBI, and SAGE Journal. Results: The use of combination drugs between antipsychotics and antidepressants with hydroxychloroquine/azithromycin is not recommended because it has side effects that can induce psychiatric symptoms. COVID-19 patients with bipolar disorder (BD) who do not respond to pharmacotherapy may receive electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Non-pharmacological therapies such as counseling and the use of telepsychiatry are effective in treating mental health and overcoming adverse psychological effects. Conclusion: COVID-19 patients with bipolar affective disorder require unique therapy to avoid drug interactions and pharma-cotherapy. Non-pharmacological efforts include counseling and telepsychiatry to cope with emotional distress and mental health challenges. However, challenges remain in providing care for these patients.

Abstract

Background:  Paclitaxel-carboplatin chemotherapy can cause hema-tological disorders. This regiment's hematological side effects include anemia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. Data showed this regiment side effect occurs with grade iii/iv toxicity anemia, grade III/IV anemia by 41%, neutropenia (78%), and thrombocytopenia (41%). This hema-tological disorder occurs in bone marrow-producing areas due to chemotherapy. Each hematological disorder requires separate interven-tion.Case Presentation: A 54-year-old woman was diagnosed with a progressive disease of left lung adenocarcinoma (Exon 21 mutation) with TKI and received paclitaxel-carboplatin chemotherapy. The patient experienced side effects of anemia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia. Anemia was treated with PRC transfusion, neutropenia corrected with Filgrastim, and thrombocytopenia with platelet transfusion. Chemo-therapy was discontinued after five cycles because the Thrombo-cytopenia condition did not improve. Conclusion: Hematological parameters are essential in preparing for lung cancer chemotherapy. Uncorrectable hematological disorders lead to discontinuation of chemotherapy

Abstract

Background:  Pleuropulmonary amebiasis is the most common complication of amoebic liver abscess, occurring in 15% of patients with amoebic liver disease and in 1% of patients with amoebic dysentery. Most commonly occurs by direct extension of a right superior lobe hepatic abscess through the diaphragm to the right lower lobe of the lung with a mortality rate of 5-16%. Primary pleural amebiasis without liver involvement is rare.Case Presentation: Reported an 18-year-old male patient with pleural amebiasis from the results of parasitological examination of pleural fluid found Entamoeba histolytica. History, physical examination and support showed normal liver function. The patient has a history of poor sanitation with a dissertation of unhygienic habits. Patients without liver problems remain at risk for amoebiasis pleuraConclusion: Pleural amebiasis without liver involvement was a rare case. Further investigation was needed in patients with pleural amoebiasis to other organs, such as the liver and digestive tract. Diagnose pleural amebiasis should be the main focus in determining the etiology. Entamoeba histolytica may be involved in pleural inflammation and cause effusion.
