Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and changes in elementary students' learning characteristics demand contextual and meaningful learning experiences, including the strengthening of cultural literacy. Integrated Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning has strategic potential to connect natural, social, and cultural concepts; however, classroom practices in elementary schools still show limited use of digital learning media that incorporate local cultural contexts. This study aims to analyze the needs for developing interactive digital media based on local wisdom to strengthen cultural literacy in elementary IPAS learning. A qualitative descriptive approach with a needs analysis design was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with teachers, limited classroom observations, and document analysis. The data were analyzed qualitatively through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that IPAS learning is still dominated by general learning resources that are not yet integrated with local cultural contexts. Teachers require interactive digital media that are easy to use, aligned with students' characteristics, and capable of connecting IPAS content with local wisdom. The local cultural potential of Gresik is highly relevant to be utilized as a learning context in IPAS instruction. Based on these findings, the BESTARI interactive digital media is positioned as a conceptual solution that can be further developed to support cultural literacy strengthening in elementary IPAS learning.

Abstract

Students' educational achievement is greatly supported by parental participation. However, there are still a number of barriers that hinder parental participation in school activities, including busy work schedules, poor communication and a lack of awareness regarding the importance of involvement in their children’s education. The purpose of this study was to describe the approaches taken by the principal to increase parental involvement at Simatang Utara Public Elementary School in Tolitoli Regency. This study employed a descriptive design and a qualitative methodology. The principal, instructors, and students' parents made up the research subjects. Observation, interviews and documentation were used to gather data, which were then analysed using methods for data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drafting. The findings demonstrated that the principal's approach to boosting parental involvement involves working with the school committee, socialising the value of parents' roles in their children's education, increasing effective communication between the school and parents and involving parents in a variety of school activities. This approach is supported by the principal's dedication, teacher support, and parental understanding of the value of education. Parental busyness, time constraints, and some parents' low involvement in school activities are the impeding obstacles. According to the study's findings, the principal's approach was crucial for boosting parental involvement in order to successfully support the accomplishment of educational objectives.
