Abstract

In line with its objectives, educational services in schools are expected not only to foster students’ academic development but also to ensure their social and emotional well-being as part of holistic growth. However, in practice, many students still experience high levels of social anxiety due to irrational thinking patterns and fear of negative evaluation from their social environment, which hinders learning engagement and interpersonal relationships. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Cognitive Behavioral Counseling using Cognitive Restructuring techniques in reducing students’ social anxiety. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental nonequivalent control group design was employed. The participants consisted of 14 students with high levels of social anxiety selected through purposive sampling and assigned to an experimental group and a control group, each comprising seven students. Data were collected using a social anxiety questionnaire that had met validity and reliability requirements and were supported by interviews with school counselors. Data analysis was conducted through prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity) followed by an independent samples t-test. The results revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups after the intervention (p = 0.001 < 0.05), with an effect size of 3.23, indicating a very strong effect. The study concludes that Cognitive Behavioral Counseling based on cognitive restructuring is effective in reducing students’ social anxiety. These findings highlight the importance of integrating cognitive-based interventions into school counseling services as an evidence-based psychosocial support strategy.

Abstract

The problem of low student character in terms of honesty, responsibility, discipline, and empathy is a major challenge in today's education world. This condition shows the need for a more humanistic and transformative approach in guidance and counseling services. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the implementation of peace guidance in improving student character based on the dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile. The type of research used is a quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design. The subjects of the study consisted of 552 students, who were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through a student character questionnaire based on the Pancasila Student Profile, observation, and structured interviews. The questionnaire instrument has been tested for validity and reliability before being used. The data analysis technique used is path analysis to determine the relationship between peace guidance and strengthening student character in each dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile. The results of the study indicate that peace guidance makes a significant contribution to improving student character, with a correlation coefficient value for the dimensions of faith and piety of 1.00; mutual cooperation 0.656; independence 0.905; critical reasoning 0.920; and creativity 0.208. Techniques applied in the service include reflective dialogue and role-playing which have proven effective in fostering empathy, self-awareness, and conflict resolution skills. The conclusion of this study is that the integration of peace values in guidance and counseling services is consistently able to strengthen students' character according to the six dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile.

Abstract

The global teacher shortage crisis, marked by high attrition rates within the first five years of service, highlights the importance of fostering flourishing in teacher professional education. This study aims to examine how the PERMA dimensions of flourishing are manifested among Indonesian teacher education students to generate culturally responsive and contextually grounded insights that support teacher readiness and retention. Using a sequential explanatory mixed-methods design, data were collected from 312 students across faculties and semesters. Phase 1 employed MANOVA to examine demographic variations in PERMA scores using validated instruments. Phase 2 involved thematic analysis of 24 in-depth interviews to explore students’ lived experiences of flourishing. Joint displays and meta-inferences were used to integrate quantitative and qualitative findings. Results showed no significant demographic differences in PERMA scores, challenging assumptions about variation based on gender, faculty, or semester. However, qualitative findings revealed culturally nuanced expressions of flourishing, including collective emotional experiences, relational engagement, service-oriented meaning-making, and communal celebration of individual success. These insights suggest that while the PERMA framework remains structurally relevant, its expression in collectivist cultures like Indonesia reflects unique cultural pathways. This study contributes to the global discourse on positive psychology by highlighting the need for culturally grounded applications of flourishing. The findings offer a foundation for developing teacher education programs that are both evidence-based and culturally responsive, enhancing well-being and long-term commitment among future educators.

Abstract

The decline in moral character among junior secondary school students has become an increasingly prominent educational issue in line with social changes and technological advancement, necessitating planned and sustained interventions to reconstruct students’ positive behavior. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a behavioral counseling approach using modeling techniques in improving students’ moral character. The study employed an experimental approach with an experimental group and a control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes, serving as the treatment group and the comparison group. The intervention was administered to the experimental group through a behavioral counseling approach using modeling techniques with symbolic models in a classical setting. Data were collected using a moral character questionnaire based on a rating scale. Instrument validity was examined through content validity and construct validity, while reliability was tested using an internal consistency reliability coefficient with the assistance of statistical software. Data analysis was conducted using a mean difference test to identify differences between groups. The results revealed a significant difference between the treatment group and the comparison group, indicating that the behavioral counseling approach with modeling techniques had a strong effect on improving students’ moral character. The findings confirm that the behavioral counseling approach with modeling techniques is effective as a guidance and counseling service strategy to strengthen students’ character. The implications of this study support the integration of behavioral counseling approaches into character development programs in educational settings.

Abstract

Social loafing refers to the tendency of group members to exhibit reduced motivation or effort, to behave passively or remain silent in group settings, and to allow others to take responsibility for working on and completing group tasks. This study aimed to examine and describe the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral counseling using cognitive restructuring techniques in reducing social loafing among seventh-grade junior high school students. The research employed a quasi-experimental approach with a nonequivalent pretest–posttest control group design, in which an experimental class and a control class were selected based on the average scores obtained from a questionnaire. The population of this study consisted of seventh-grade junior high school students. Data analysis was conducted using parametric statistical analysis, specifically the independent samples t-test, followed by an effect size test. The results of the study indicate that cognitive behavioral counseling with cognitive restructuring techniques was effective in reducing social loafing among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja. The results of the parametric statistical test using the independent samples t-test showed p < α (0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected, indicating that cognitive behavioral counseling is effective in reducing students’ social loafing.

Abstract

A sense of safety at school supports students in achieving both psychological and academic well-being, whereas feeling unsafe can lead to emotional disturbances such as anxiety, which hinders their overall development and academic performance. One major cause of anxiety among students is bullying by peers, which often results in victims becoming reluctant to attend school or even wanting to drop out. Although school Guidance and Counseling teachers have provided services and conducted home visits, their efforts remain suboptimal due to the lack of specific guidelines for addressing anxiety in bullying victims. This study aims to assess the content validity, acceptability, and effectiveness of a counseling manual based on cognitive behavior therapy using cognitive restructuring techniques to reduce anxiety in bullied students. The study was developed using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate), and the results showed that the product validity reached a CVR score of 1 and a CVI score of 0.011, falling within the appropriate category; the manual's acceptability scored 0.97, categorized as highly appropriate; and its effectiveness, with a p-value < 0.05, indicates that the manual is effective in reducing anxiety in victims of bullying. This cognitive behavior therapy-based counseling manual has been found beneficial in helping students manage anxiety caused by bullying, enabling them to participate in school activities without fear or worry.

Abstract

Indonesian adolescents face critical challenges in making career decisions, while limited access to culturally valid assessment tools further complicates their efforts to navigate this important developmental task. This study aimed to validate a career development assessment tool by 1) exploring its latent factor structure, 2) confirming the factorial model, and 3) evaluating its internal consistency reliability. Employing a quantitative cross-sectional survey design, a total of 743 adolescents completed an online 34-item instrument. Data were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). These results find EFA identified a stable three-factor structure comprising personal goals, self-efficacy beliefs, and outcome expectations, consistent with the Social Cognitive Career Theory framework. These dimensions demonstrated theoretical coherence and empirical support through strong item loadings and meaningful inter-factor correlations. The CFA further supported the model’s adequacy, with fit indices indicating a good correspondence between the hypothesized structure and observed data. A total of 23 items showed substantial contributions to their respective latent constructs, confirming the instrument’s construct validity, with satisfactory internal consistency across all dimensions. The validated 23-item instrument thus offers a theoretically grounded and psychometrically robust contribution to career guidance practices and educational planning within the Indonesian context.

Abstract

Rhesus (Rh) factor incompatibility remains a significant yet frequently misunderstood reproductive health concern, particularly in culturally and religiously sensitive societies. In many African and Asian contexts, complications arising from Rh incompatibility are often attributed to spiritual causes, curses, or ancestral offenses. Such misconceptions fuel stigma, create emotional distress especially for women and hinder timely medical intervention, thereby deepening marital strain. This position paper examines the cultural and religious dimensions shaping the perception and management of Rh incompatibility in marriage and argues for a counselling approach that integrates both scientific knowledge and cultural sensitivity. Seven practical strategies are advanced, including culturally tailored health education, partnerships with faith-based and community leaders, gender-balanced counselling, and the integration of Rh screening into premarital religious programmes. The paper adopts a conceptual and analytical research design, drawing on existing scholarly literature, policy documents, and case examples to critically synthesis evidence and propose context-relevant solutions. Implications: By addressing Rh incompatibility through both medical and socio-cultural lenses, the paper offers a framework for marriage and family counsellors, health educators, and policymakers to reduce stigma, promote reproductive health literacy, and strengthen marital harmony in societies where cultural and religious beliefs strongly influence family life.
