Abstract

Students pay less attention to the teacher during the learning process because students find it difficult to understand the learning material, especially in mathematics. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the contextual learning model on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities on the material of two-variable linear equation systems in Class X of SMK Negeri 1 Angkola Timur. The type of research used by the researcher is quantitative research. In this study, the researcher used the True-Experienced Design design with the One Group Pretest and Posttest Design type. The population was all students of Class X at SMK Negeri 1 Angkola Timur consisting of 6 classes totaling 92 students. Based on the data analysis, the researcher drew conclusions based on the results of data collection, there was an effectiveness of the contextual learning model on the material of two-variable linear equation systems on students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. This is evidenced by the results of the paired sample test that has been conducted in the experimental class. It can be concluded that H0 in the experimental class is rejected and Ha is accepted because the sig value (2-tailed) in the experimental class is 0.00 less than 0.05. Furthermore, based on inferential statistics using the pair sample t-test, (SPSS version 27), the results show a significance value of less than 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). This means that the constructivism learning model is effectively used for the mathematical problem solving abilities of class X students of SMK Negeri 1 Angkola Timur.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to reveal the mathematical concepts embedded in the weaving activities of Buna woven-cloth artisans in Letmafo Village, Central Insana District, North Central Timor Regency. This research employed a qualitative ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation with three main informants: a traditional leader and two experienced weavers. Data analysis used domain, taxonomy, componential, and cultural-theme stages. The findings show that weaving activities contain mathematical elements such as counting (the number of threads and repeated patterns), measuring (length and width of the cloth using non-standard units such as hand-span), and designing (forming geometric patterns such as squares, triangles, rhombuses, and lines of symmetry). Ethnomathematics in the Buna motif reflects an integration between local culture and mathematical concepts of geometry and number patterns that can be used as contextual learning resources. Abstract

Mathematical communication skills and creative thinking are two essential aspects of mathematics learning; however, studies examining how creative thinking is manifested within mathematical communication remain limited. This study aims to describe how creative thinking is manifested in students’ mathematical communication when solving two-dimensional geometry problems from a commognitive perspective. This research employed a qualitative approach with a single-case study design. The research subject was one student who demonstrated a variety of strategies in solving contextual 2D geometry problems. Data were collected through written tasks and semi-structured interviews, and were analyzed based on the components of commognitive discourse, namely the use of mathematical terms, visual representations, argumentative narratives, and solution patterns. The findings indicate that creative thinking is manifested through variations in representation, flexibility of strategies, originality in constructing arguments, and elaboration of mathematical explanations. These findings suggest that creativity can be identified through the structure of students’ mathematical communication and contribute theoretically to the integration of creativity within mathematical discourse analysis.
