Abstract

This study aims to describe the factors associated with the motivation of palm sugar producers in Malapari Village, Muara Bulian Sub-district, Batanghari Regency; to describe the motivation of palm sugar producers in Malapari Village, Muara Bulian Sub-district, Batanghari Regency; and to analyze the factors associated with the motivation of palm sugar producers in Malapari Village, Muara Bulian Sub-district, Batanghari Regency. This research was conducted in Malapari Village, Muara Bulian Sub-district, Batanghari Regency. This area was selected based on the consideration that Malapari Village is the center for palm sugar production in Batanghari. The collected data were analyzed using non-parametric statistics through the Chi-Square test. The results obtained from the study are: 1) The factors associated with the producer’s motivation tend to be high, with the following percentages: education factor 58%, experience factor 65%, raw material availability factor 58.3%, tradition factor 53%, sales factor 78%, and government policy factor 63%. 2) The motivation of palm sugar producer in Malapari Village tends to be high, with the following percentages for its aspects: Existence 80%, Relatedness 76.6%, and Growth 90%. The overall aspect of motivation is 75%. 3) Based on the Chi-Square analysis results, there is a significant relationship between the factors and the motivation of palm sugar producer in Malapari Village, Muara Bulian Sub-district, Batanghari Regency at the 95% significance level.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) Identify factors related to rice farmers' decisions to continue farming in Pemunduran Village, Kumpeh Ulu Subdistrict; 2) Identify farmers' decisions to continue rice farming in Pemunduran Village. The sampling method used in this study was census sampling. The data analysis methods used were descriptive analysis and Chi-Square with a 2x2 contingency table. The results of the study can be concluded that the decision of farmers in Pemunduran Village to continue rice farming is influenced by six main factors: personal consumption, farmer experience, social environmental factors, habitual factors, government policy, and land. Most farmers in Pemunduran Village allocate more than half of their land to rice cultivation, indicating that their level of decision to continue rice cultivation is relatively high. This can be seen where the majority of farmers allocate more than 50% of their land to rice farming, with the highest percentage category being personal consumption

Abstract

Regional economic development required the identification of potential sectors as a basis for policy formulation. This study aimed to: 1) describe the condition of agricultural subcategories in Kerinci Regency; 2) analyze agricultural subcategories as base or non-base sectors; and 3) analyze the role of agricultural subcategories in the regional economy based on the Gross Regional Domestic Product aspect. The research was conducted in Kerinci Regency, with Jambi Province serving as the reference region. The data used were Gross Regional Domestic Product at constant prices (2010 base year) for the period 2014–2023, which were analyzed using Location Quotient, Dynamic Location Quotient, and Shift-Share analysis. The results showed that agricultural subcategories were the largest contributors to the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries category, accounting for 97.31%, and contributed 44.8% to the total Gross Regional Domestic Product. The Location Quotient analysis indicated that agricultural subcategories were base sectors, with food crops, horticulture, livestock, and agricultural services and hunting classified as base sectors, while plantations were categorized as non-base. The Dynamic Location Quotient analysis showed that agricultural subcategories were projected to become non-base sectors in the future. Meanwhile, the Shift-Share analysis identified horticulture as the only sub-subcategory that experienced competitive growth, while other sub-subcategories exhibited relatively slow growth within the agricultural subcategory. These findings confirmed that the agricultural sector had significant potential and required improvements in productivity, intensification strategies, and the provision of sustainable agricultural land to strengthen its role.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect and interaction between the application of Humic Acid and the concentration of NASA liquid organic fertilizer (POC) on the growth and yield of shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.). This study was conducted from February to April 2025 in Sugihwaras Village, Saradan District, Madiun Regency using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK) with two factors: Humic Acid (A0 = 0 g/polybag, A1 = 2 g/polybag, A2 = 4 g/polybag) and NASA liquid organic fertilizer concentration (P1 = 2 ml/L, P2 = 5 ml/L, P3 = 8 ml/L). Each treatment combination was replicated three times, resulting in 27 plots with a total of 216 plants. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, number of tillers, number of bulbs, fresh bulb weight, dry bulb weight, and bulb diameter. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by a 5% DMRT test. The results of the study showed that there was an interaction between the treatment of Humic Acid administration and Nasa POC concentration on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, number of tubers, wet weight of tubers, and dry weight of tubers, but there was no interaction on the parameters of leaf area and tuber diameter at the age of 40 HST. The highest average value was found in the treatment of 4 g Humic Acid administration and 8 ml Nasa POC concentration showing a higher average value compared to other treatments.

Abstract

This study evaluated the interaction between dolomite lime and goat manure dosages on the growth and yield of tomato plants (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.). The experiment was arranged in a factorial randomized block design with two factors and three replications. Dolomite lime was applied at four levels (0, 5, 10, and 15 g per polybag), while goat manure was applied at 0, 37.5, 75, and 112.5 g per polybag. Observations included soil pH, plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, number of branches, number of fruits per plant, and biomass parameters. Significant interactions between dolomite lime and goat manure were observed for leaf number at 36 and 43 days after transplanting (DAT), leaf area at 43 DAT, number of branches at 36 DAT, and number of fruits per plant at 57 DAT, whereas no interaction occurred for soil pH, plant height, or biomass variables. Dolomite lime improved soil chemical conditions by increasing soil pH, while goat manure enhanced vegetative growth through improved nutrient availability. Optimal combinations differed among parameters. Overall, integrated application of dolomite lime and goat manure effectively enhanced tomato growth and yield under acidic soil conditions.

Abstract

This study analyzes rural–urban migration and non-permanent mobility in Indonesia using secondary data from the Statistics Indonesia 2015 Intercensal Population Survey (SUPAS 2015). Grounded in the Harris–Todaro framework and contemporary migration theories, the research examines the socioeconomic determinants of migration decisions and the growing relevance of commuter and seasonal mobility patterns. Rural–urban migration is conceptualized as a rational decision based on expected income differentials, employment opportunities, and access to urban facilities, while recognizing structural imbalances in the labor market that may generate urban unemployment and informal sector expansion. This study employs a quantitative and qualitative research design supported by a systematic literature review. The literature review was conducted to identify theoretical frameworks, empirical findings, and methodological approaches related to rural–urban migration. Previous scholarly articles were carefully examined to construct the conceptual framework and to determine relevant variables for empirical analysis. Urbanization in Indonesia demonstrates both positive and negative implications. On the one hand, agglomeration economies enhance productivity, income, and access to education and health services. On the other hand, rapid urban growth contributes to congestion costs, informal employment, environmental degradation, and urban poverty. The study concludes that migration and non-permanent mobility are integral components of Indonesia’s demographic and economic transformation, requiring balanced regional development policies and improved urban governance to maximize benefits while minimizing social and economic costs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between the health conditions of farmers and their implications on the productivity and economic welfare of agricultural households through a literature review approach. This study examines various empirical studies from several countries, namely Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Australia, Germany, China, the Netherlands, Japan, and Brazil, which discusses the impact of pesticide exposure, work injuries, health shocks, health literacy, and socio-economic factors on the economic performance of the agricultural sector. The results of the review show that health problems, both in the form of diseases due to chemical exposure and work accidents, consistently negatively impact the number of effective working days, labor productivity, and farmers' household incomes. In addition, health literacy, education level, access to health services, and the use of personal protective equipment have proven to be important determinants in reducing health risks and economic losses. Cross-country studies show that even in countries with advanced health systems, such as the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, and Australia, health shocks still affect agricultural productivity. Meanwhile, in developing countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, and Brazil, limited access to health services and low occupational safety education magnify the economic impact of health problems. This research confirms that health is an integral part of human capital in the function of agricultural production and needs to be considered in sustainable agricultural development policies.

Abstract

Organic mulching emerges as a relevant strategy within sustainable agricultural systems.  The objective is to determine the optimal mulch dosage to suppress weeds effectively while enhancing crop growth and yield. The study was conducted within the experimental area of the Faculty of Agriculture, University Gunung Leuser, Kutacane, Aceh Province, Indonesia from September to November 2025. The experiment was arranged using a non factorial Randomized Complete Block Design comprising three treatment levels with three replications. The treatments consisted of different application rates of Ageratum conyzoides L. organic mulch, namely D0=0, D1=2, D2=4 kg m-1, which correspond to approximately 0, 20, 40 t ha-1, respectively. The variables observed included weed control percentage, ground cover, number of weed species, weed population, and fresh weed biomass. In addition, several growth parameters of sweet corn were recorded, including plant height, stem circumference, and number of leaves. Yield components measured comprised diameter, length, cob weight, kernel weight, and grain yield. The application of Ageratum conyzoides L. organic mulch at rates of 20 and 40 t ha-1 increased the percentage of weed control at 10, 20, and 30 DAP, while simultaneously reducing weed cover at 10, 20, and 30 DAP. The treatment also decreased the number of weed species at 20 and 40 DAP as well as the fresh biomass of weeds at 40 DAP. In addition, the application of Ageratum conyzoides L. organic mulch enhanced stem circumference at 30 DAP, increased the number of leaves at 10 DAP, and ultimately improved kernel yield in sweet corn.

Abstract

Pesticide utilization plays a pivotal role in sustaining the continuity of agricultural commodity supply chains by mitigating potential yield losses attributable to pest and disease infestations. This study aims to examine the perceptions and knowledge levels of farmers and pesticide distributors in Babul Makmur, Bukit Tusam, and Semadam Sub-districts, Southeast Aceh Regency, Indonesia. The research was conducted from October to November 2025 using a descriptive survey approach based on structured interviews with questionnaire instruments encompassing indicators of perception, knowledge level, and pesticide use practices. Respondents comprised farmers as end-users and pesticide vendors as distribution agents. The data collected included respondent characteristics, types of pesticides utilized or marketed, dosage and application frequency, and comprehension of safety-related aspects. Descriptive analytical techniques were employed to identify prevailing trends in perception and knowledge among respondents. The findings indicate that although farmers and pesticide distributors demonstrate relatively high levels of knowledge and normative awareness regarding pesticide safety, the consistency of technical and administrative practices has not been fully institutionalized. Strengthening regulatory oversight, ensuring continuous educational interventions, and integrating distribution governance mechanisms are therefore essential prerequisites to safeguard safety standards, enhance accountability, and promote the sustainability of agricultural systems.

Abstract

The agricultural industry employs more than 65% of Tanzanian workers and has a major economic impact. This study assesses the variables affecting small farmers' access to and utilisation of loans in Tanzania's Dodoma region. Additionally, the study uses a mixed research approach to integrate or combine qualitative and quantitative data. The research used a cross-sectional survey research methodology. The total number of grape growers in the sample was 342. For the inquiry, primary data was selected. The research discovered that Tanzanian farmers' utilization to funding is affected by bank interest rates, terms of payment, age, and education. The study recommends that development banks collaborate with the government, take the time to fully comprehend the macroeconomics of the nation in which they operate, control operating costs, and establish a stable source of income in order to successfully extend credit to underfinanced areas or sectors where other commercial banks would not.
