Abstract

This research emphasizes the necessity of cultivating 21st-century competencies, particularly critical thinking, in order to confront global challenges and expedite technological advancements. The integration of educational puzzle adventure games with the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model is an innovative approach that has been investigated. The study aims to determine whether this model effectively improves the critical thinking skills of junior high school pupils by fostering active engagement in game-based project learning. The study, which was conducted using a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pre-test and post-test design, involved 33 eighth-grade pupils at UPT SMP Negeri 2 Palang. Ennis's indicators were employed to develop critical thinking evaluations, as well as engagement questionnaires and observations. The findings indicated a substantial rise in students' critical thinking scores, which rose from 4.79 to 8.24. This enhancement was verified by a paired sample t-test, which yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), suggesting that the learning model had a substantial positive effect. The results indicate that the PjBL model, which is based on puzzle adventure games, is effective in enhancing the critical thinking skills of students. Abstract

This study aims to develop Arabic language test questions based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI), and to present them online via the Learning Management System (LMS). This study is part of an effort to develop an Arabic language evaluation instrument that is more communicative, accountable, and aligned with global and national needs. The instrument development process was carried out using the ADDIE model across the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The test was then administered to 212 students. The evaluation revealed a decline in CEFR level achievement from pre-test to post-test, indicating a more accurate measurement of Arabic language proficiency. Interviews with 57 participants confirmed that the test items were perceived as more challenging and that they reflected real Arabic language use. These findings demonstrate the success of integrating the CEFR and SKKNI to produce a more targeted and high-quality Arabic language evaluation instrument.

Abstract

Pesantren is a central pillar of Islamic education in Indonesia. It does not merely reproduce religious values, but also actively shapes and transforms Islamic discourse in response to changing historical conditions. This article aims to analyze the transformation of pesantren thought through conceptual-analytical and historical-critical approaches across five major historical phases: early Sufism, Islamization-politics, colonialism, the post-independence period, and globalization. The study is based on library research on classical manuscripts, kitab kuning, and academic literature, and employs genealogical reading to uncover changes in epistemology, power relations, and pesantren adaptation strategies within Islamic education. The findings show that pesantren consistently develop an educational model that integrates tradition and modernity, spirituality and rationality, as well as texts and social praxis. The contribution of this article lies not only in rereading the intellectual history of Indonesian Islam, but also in offering a more critical, contextual, and transformative paradigm of Islamic education amid the challenges of globalization and the fragmentation of religious identity.

Abstract

This study explores the English immersion practice at Pondok Pesantren Darul Hijrah Putri in South Kalimantan through the lens of Communities of Practice (CoP) and Second Language Acquisition (SLA) theories. Drawing on qualitative data from interviews with students and teachers, institutional documents, field observations, and transcribed student conversations, the research uncovers how immersive language practices are organically built and sustained within a unique religious educational community. The findings reveal that English use is maintained not only through formal curriculum and institutional structures but also through peer participation, leadership modeling, and internalized social norms. Students experience language acquisition not merely as academic achievement but as part of their religious identity and social belonging, fostering strong engagement and functional fluency. It portrays how language practice is embraced in the sociolinguistic setting of pesantren as a community of practice. Some limitations, such as fossilized errors, limited authentic input, and affective barriers, are also discussed. In the end, this study offers theoretical and practical implications for the design of immersion in socio-religious educational settings.
