Abstract

Sago is one of the potential commodities in Indonesia as a food reserve. The main issue with sago production is that it is still managed traditionally, without the application of proper cultivation techniques. Generally, sago farmers in Riau Province do not conduct adequate care and maintenance of sago plants, which affects sago productivity. This study aims to analyze the production efficiency of sago farming in Riau Province. The sampling method used was non-probability sampling with purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was carried out using a stochastic approach with the Cobb-Douglas production function model. The results of the study show that technically, sago farmers in Riau Province are efficient in labor use but inefficient in utilizing harvest area. Therefore, it is necessary to expand the harvest area and adopt a regular planting distance using an equilateral triangle system to increase the number of clumps per harvest area. Meanwhile, allocative and economic efficiency in sago farming in Riau Province has not been achieved. The relatively small number of plant clumps and the high land prices make harvest area utilization allocatively inefficient. Although labor allocation is technically efficient, it is not efficient in terms of allocation and economics. Labor costs are relatively high; thus, to achieve efficiency, it is necessary to reduce labor cost allocation.

Abstract

Coconut cultivation in Indragiri Hilir Regency has been a hereditary tradition. However, in recent years, a decrease in land area and production volume has resulted in a decline in farmers' income. This study aims to evaluate current coconut cultivation practices and calculate the income from coconut farming in Indragiri Hilir. The analysis methods used are gap analysis and income analysis. For sampling, a non-probability sampling method was employed. The results show that most farmers have implemented recommended cultivation practices; however, aspects such as planting distance, fertilizer dosage, and pest and disease control are not optimal. This has led to low coconut production and a decrease in coconut selling prices. Additionally, the income from coconut farming per hectare per year in Indragiri Hilir Regency is IDR 2,065,936/Ha/year, indicating that the income of coconut farmers remains low. To address these issues, comprehensive efforts from the local government are needed, such as intensive training for farmers on standard cultivation practices, as well as subsidies for fertilizers and herbicides. These steps are expected to enhance farmers' skills in managing coconut plantations, thereby significantly increasing production and income. Thus, it is hoped that the problem of low farmer income in Indragiri Hilir can be minimized, and this sector can make a greater contribution to the local economy.

Abstract

Banjarnegara district has great potential in social entrepreneurship for economic empowerment through farm women's groups that produce and market instant tiwul from cassava. The development of instant tiwul products is not only being maintained as local wisdom but also being improved for regional food security. Therefore, the potential of instant tiwul needs to be studied further through the right business model for sustainability and increased business income. This study aims to analyze the development strategy of instant tiwul local food products based on social entrepreneurship by the Women Farmers Group (KWT) in Purwanegara District, Banjarnegara Regency. The sampling method used is Purposive Sampling. The sample of this study was 100 people, using the SWOT analysis method to evaluate internal and external factors that affect the performance of instant tiwul products. The results showed that the main strengths of this product lie in high quality, abundant access to raw materials, distinctive taste, and integration of technology in production. However, weaknesses include a relatively expensive selling price, limited product accessibility, and low consumer awareness. Opportunities include wide market potential, government support, and the increasing trend of healthy food consumption. The main threats are competition with modern food products and changes in people's consumption patterns. An effective enhancement strategy, based on quadrant analysis, should focus on strengthening advantages, leveraging market opportunities, and addressing challenges with a comprehensive and adaptive approach, such as market expansion and production capacity enhancement to reach more consumers. Thus, instant tiwul products can achieve sustainable growth and provide significant economic benefits to local communities and improve the welfare of the farm women involved.
