Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characteristics and potential use of eruption sand from Mount Marapi, West Sumatra as a substitute for fine aggregate in concrete mixtures.  Mount Marapi sand is abundantly available, but its use in the construction industry is not yet optimal, therefore it is necessary to study its quality in more depth.  The characteristics of Mount Marapi sand were tested including grain gradation, organic content, mud content, bulk density, specific gravity and water absorption.  Variations in concrete mixes were made with the percentage of Mount Marapi sand used compared to river sand being 0%, 50%, 75%, and 100%.  Concrete compressive strength testing was carried out at the age of 28 days with a cylindrical test specimen for a design compressive strength of 27.5 MPa.  The research results show that Mount Marapi sand has rather coarse grains, low mud content and water absorption.  The use of Mount Marapi sand as a substitute for river sand produces concrete that has a higher compressive strength than normal concrete, the highest compressive strength was obtained when using 100% Mount Marapi sand, namely 31.54 MPa, an increase of 14.36%.  Thus, Mount Merapi eruption sand can be used as a substitute for fine aggregate in concrete mixes. Keywords: Mount Marapi sand, fine aggregate, concrete compressive strength, volcanic material

Abstract

Communication conducted by Posyandu cadres plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of midwifery services at the community level, particularly in maternal and child health education programs. Effective communication contributes to improving health literacy, behavior, and community participation in Posyandu activities. This study aims to analyze the forms and quality of communication carried out by Posyandu cadres in implementing midwifery services in RT 03 RW 02, Mattoangin Subdistrict, Makassar City. This research employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, consisting of five active cadres with at least two years of service experience, one supervisory midwife, and three mothers receiving services. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document review of Posyandu activities. The study setting was the local Posyandu facility routinely conducting monthly health services. Data analysis was performed using a thematic approach through data reduction, coding, categorization, interpretation, and source triangulation to ensure credibility. The findings indicate that cadre communication occurs through three dominant forms: interpersonal communication, small group communication, and health program–driven instructional communication. Interpersonal communication was the most frequently used method, particularly when delivering education related to exclusive breastfeeding, immunization, child nutrition, and growth monitoring. Supporting factors included strong social bonding and experience in community service. However, limitations were identified, including inadequate communication skills, unstructured message delivery, and limited use of digital educational media. In conclusion, communication by Posyandu cadres in midwifery service implementation is functioning but not yet optimal. Strengthening communication skills through digital-based health communication training and continuous mentoring by healthcare providers is recommended to enhance message effectiveness and improve the quality of midwifery service delivery at the Posyandu level. Keywords: health communication, Posyandu cadres, midwifery services, qualitative research, Makassar

Abstract

This study aims to examine in depth the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) in the context of elementary education, particularly in primary schools and madrasah ibtidaiyah, through a literature review approach. The Independent Curriculum represents a new educational paradigm in Indonesia that emphasizes flexibility, student-centered learning, and the development of the Pancasila Student Profile. The research analyzes the basic concept of the Independent Curriculum, its legal foundation, the four main policy pillars, the holistic characteristics of learning, and the applied learning principles. Additionally, the advantages and disadvantages of this curriculum are discussed based on its implementation at the elementary level. The literature review method is employed by analyzing various recent sources addressing the urgency, implications, challenges, and innovations in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum. The analysis results indicate that the Independent Curriculum provides greater autonomy to educational units to adapt learning to local and individual student needs, particularly through differentiation approaches and projects to strengthen the Pancasila student profile. In madrasah ibtidaiyah, this curriculum successfully integrates religious values with general learning, thereby supporting the formation of religious and responsible character. Although it offers advantages such as reduced administrative burden and improved learning quality, the curriculum also faces challenges, including teacher readiness and issues in specific subjects. This study is expected to support the achievement of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competencies among students in understanding and applying the Independent Curriculum responsibly and positively. Keywords: Independent Curriculum, differentiated learning, madrasah ibtidaiyah, Pancasila Student Profile, curriculum implementation
