Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnancy contributes to approximately 20% of maternal deaths globally. In Indonesia, anemia prevalence among pregnant women is 48.9%. National coverage of iron (Fe) supplementation (minimum 90 tablets) is 88.5%, yet in Aceh it is only 63.9%. At Sukamakmur Public Health Center, only 302 of 437 pregnant women (56.03%) receiving iron tablets were compliant, and 135 (25.05%) were diagnosed with anemia. Objective: To identify factors influencing compliance with iron tablet consumption among pregnant women in Sukamakmur, Aceh Besar District. Methods: This quantitative analytic descriptive study used a cross-sectional design involving 98 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters, selected through total sampling. Compliance was measured using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Knowledge, attitude, and family support were assessed using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed with the chi-square test at p<0.05. Results: Most respondents had poor knowledge (48.0%), negative attitudes (53.1%), low family support (54.1%), and low compliance (72.4%). Significant associations were found between compliance and knowledge (p=0.000), attitude (p=0.033), and family support (p=0.011). Conclusion: Compliance remains low despite adequate distribution. Improving maternal knowledge, fostering positive attitudes, and enhancing family particularly husband support are essential to increase adherence and reduce anemia-related risks in pregnancy.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, including in Batam City, which is characterized by rapid population growth and urbanization. This condition not only hampers children’s physical growth but also affects their cognitive development and long-term productivity. This study aims to design and implement a community-based intervention model for the prevention of stunting among children aged 0–59 months in Batam. A mixed methods design with an exploratory-sequential approach was employed. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with health workers, posyandu cadres, and parents, while quantitative data were obtained from questionnaires distributed to 150 mothers of toddlers. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using correlation tests, logistic regression, and thematic triangulation. The findings revealed that the main determinants of stunting in Batam include mothers’ limited knowledge of nutrition and exclusive breastfeeding, substandard quality of complementary feeding, restricted access to health services, and poor environmental sanitation. In response, a community-based stunting prevention model was developed consisting of four integrated components: (1) nutrition education for mothers through kelas balita (toddler classes), (2) strengthening posyandu capacity through cadre training and provision of growth monitoring tools, (3) promotion of local food utilization in complementary feeding, and (4) multi-sector collaboration among health workers, local government, and community stakeholders. The study concludes that the proposed model effectively enhances mothers’ nutritional knowledge, improves child feeding practices, and fosters sustainable community participation in stunting prevention. This model provides a practically applicable framework that can be integrated into local public health programs as a sustainable and scalable strategy to accelerate stunting reduction in urban settings like Batam.

Abstract

Menarche represents a critical stage of biological maturity in girls, which often occurs when they are not yet physically or psychologically prepared. Insufficient knowledge and negative attitudes toward menstruation can lead to fear, anxiety, and misconceptions about reproductive health. This study aims to examine the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of fifth and sixth grade female students and their readiness to face menarche at SDN Inpres Bertingkat Mabbulo Sibatang, Pinrang Regency. The research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 41 female students who had not yet experienced menstruation were selected through accidental sampling. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results revealed a significant relationship between knowledge and readiness for menarche (p = 0.000), as well as between attitude and readiness for menarche (p = 0.000). These findings highlight that students with better knowledge and positive attitudes are more psychologically and behaviorally prepared to experience menarche. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the early development of menstrual readiness among upper elementary students in a rural public school context, an area that is often overlooked in reproductive health research. This study provides important practical implications for educators, parents, and health workers in strengthening school-based reproductive health education programs. Integrating comprehensive and age-appropriate menstrual education into the elementary school curriculum can promote positive perceptions of menstruation, reduce stigma, and enhance girls’ confidence in managing biological changes healthily and responsibly.

Abstract

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that attacks the joints and is common in older adults. This disease causes pain, swelling, and limited movement, which can reduce the quality of life of older adults. Based on data from the Mattombong Community Health Center, there has been an increase in RA cases in the last three months, most of which occurred in the elderly population. This study aims to determine the relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with the incidence of rheumatoid arthritis in the elderly in the Mattombong Community Health Center working area. The study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach and a total sampling technique involving 47 respondents. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between dietary patterns and the incidence of RA (p = 0.004), as well as between physical activity and the incidence of RA (p = 0.003). Elderly individuals with poor diets and low physical activity were more likely to experience severe RA symptoms. The findings of this study highlight the importance of integrating nutritional counseling and physical activity promotion into primary health care services for the elderly. Strengthening health education programs at the community level can help prevent and control RA more effectively, thereby improving the overall quality of life among older adults.

Abstract

Work stress is a psychological pressure that can trigger both physical and mental health problems, ultimately affecting employees’ productivity and well-being. This study aims to analyze the relationship between age and length of service with work stress among gas station operators in Watang Sawitto District, Pinrang Regency. The research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 32 gas station operators as respondents. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between age and work stress (p = 0.001), as well as between length of service and work stress (p = 0.002). The novelty of this research lies in its focus on occupational stress factors among gas station operators—a workforce group that is rarely studied despite their exposure to repetitive tasks, environmental hazards, and customer interaction stressors. The practical implications of this study highlight the importance of workplace stress management programs, including periodic psychological assessments and work schedule adjustments, to maintain operator performance and occupational health.

Abstract

Workplace accidents remain a major occupational health problem in Indonesia, particularly in the informal sector. According to the ILO, more than 2.78 million workers die each year due to accidents and occupational diseases. This study aims to analyze factors associated with workplace accidents among welding workshop workers in Paleteang District, Pinrang Regency, in 2025. This research employed a quantitative analytical method with a cross-sectional design and total sampling technique, involving 37 workers from 17 welding workshops. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test and Fisher’s Exact Test. The results showed no significant relationship between age or occupational safety and health (OSH) training and work accidents (p>0.05). However, there was a significant relationship between the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the incidence of work accidents (p=0.01). This study contributes scientifically by highlighting the critical role of consistent PPE use in improving occupational safety practices in the informal sector, particularly among small-scale welding workshops. It is recommended that workers consistently use complete PPE and that workshop owners enhance OSH supervision and provide adequate protective equipment to reduce workplace accidents.

Abstract

The Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) in hospitals is designed to manage workplace safety and health risks to create a safe, efficient, and productive environment for hospital personnel, patients, visitors, and the surrounding community. Based on data from 2024, Lasinrang Pinrang Regional General Hospital recorded 3 occupational accident (KAK) cases, including 1 needle stick injury and 2 chemical spills, while in 2025, there was still 1 reported case. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the OSH Management System at Lasinrang Pinrang Regional General Hospital in 2025. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using interviews, observations, and document analysis as data collection techniques. The results indicate that the implementation of OSHMS at Lasinrang Pinrang Regional General Hospital has not been fully optimized, primarily due to limited human resource capacity and a lack of understanding among staff regarding OSHMS procedures and policies. From a theoretical perspective, this study contributes to the understanding of the critical role of human resources in the effective application of hospital-based OSH management systems. Practically, the findings highlight the need for systematic capacity building, structured supervision, and institutional commitment to continuous OSH improvement. Strategically, it is recommended that the hospital management develop a comprehensive OSH roadmap supported by adequate budget allocation, regular training, and performance evaluation mechanisms. These measures will strengthen the institutionalization of OSH culture, enhance compliance with national safety standards, and ensure sustainable implementation of the OSH Management System within the hospital environment.

Abstract

Firefighting is a high-risk occupation that requires strict implementation of occupational safety measures, including the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Despite existing safety regulations, work accidents among firefighters remain a global concern. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between PPE use and the incidence of work accidents among firefighters at the Watang Sawitto Subdistrict Fire Station in Pinrang Regency. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design with total sampling, all 52 firefighters were included as respondents. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test to examine the correlation between PPE use and work accidents. The results showed a significant relationship (p = 0.001), indicating that incomplete PPE use increases the likelihood of occupational accidents. This finding highlights the importance of strengthening compliance with PPE standards and institutional safety management systems to reduce occupational risks among firefighters. The study contributes scientifically by providing empirical evidence on the role of PPE adherence in preventing workplace accidents in high-risk emergency service environments, and practically by offering insights for policy development and safety interventions within Indonesia’s occupational health and safety (K3) framework.
