Abstract

On May 18, 2023, Mrs. Florensi had brought her dog Skye for a routine check-up. Anamnesis had been conducted for Skye, and the results indicated that Skye's appetite and drinking habits were normal. However, according to Mrs. Florensi, Skye had been urinating frequently in small amounts and There had been drops of blood on the pee pad, Leading her to believe that Skye had been in heat for an extended period. Upon palpation, the urinary bladder had felt hard, Prompting further examinations such as X-rays, urinalysis, and a vaginal swab to be conducted. The cytology results of the vaginal swab had shown the presence of red blood cells and bacterial colonies. Additionally, a significant number of parabasal and intermediate cells had been observed (indicating anestrus) rather than being in heat. The urinalysis had revealed leukocytes (+3), nitrites (+) indicating infection and inflammation in the urinary tract, protein (+2), microalbumin (+3), and creatinine (+1) indicating kidney filtration damage, vitamin C (+1) due to excessive vitamin administration, specific gravity of urine 1.030 (indicating concentrated urine), ketones (-), blood (-) normal, urobilinogen and bilirubin (-) indicating no liver disorders, pH 6.5 normal, and calcium (-). The lateral X-ray results showed no formation of urinary crystals in the urinary bladder but revealed urine accumulation. Based on the anamnesis, clinical symptoms, physical examination, and supporting tests, Skye's condition had indicated Cystitis.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan data morfometrik untuk mengetahui jenis kelamin entok (Cairina moschata) sedini mungkin dengan menggunakan variabel lingkar leher, panjang leher, lingkar dada dan panjang tubuh. Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah entok jantan dan betina dengan umur sehari (DOD), 2 minggu, 4 minggu, 6 minggu, dan 8 minggu. Jumlah sampel yang digunakan berjumlah 10 ekor jantan dan 10 ekor betina dengan total sampel sebanyak 20 ekor entok. Bagian tubuh entok diukur menggunakan pita pengukur dengan akurasi 0,5 mm. Hasil pengukuran diolah dengan menggunakan uji Manova Repeated Measure pada SPSS 23. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa panjang dan diameter tubuh jantan lebih besar dari betina setiap kelompok umur. Tingkat pertumbuhan yang berbeda dipengaruhi oleh faktor endogen (genetik dan hormonal) dan faktor eksogen (pakan dan lingkungan). Hormon yang berperan dalam pertumbuhan antara lain hormon testosteron. Hormon testosteron bekerja sama dengan hormon pertumbuhan yang memainkan peran penting dalam periode pertumbuhan, sehingga jantan tumbuh lebih cepat, serta konsumsi pakan dan tingginya agresivitas pada hewan jantan menjadi salah satu penyebab ukuran morfometrik jantan menjadi lebih besar dari betina.

Abstract

This study aims to collect data on comparisons of the differences in body size between Muscovy Duck and Mule Duck that can be observed from feed consumption, weight gain and feed conversion ratio between Cairina moschata and Mule Duck to find out the best waterfowl as a cut poultry. Cairina moschata and Mule Duck that are maintained at the age of the growth phase that is from the age of 5 weeks to 9 weeks with gender male Cairina moschata and male Mule Duck were used in this study. The number of samples that were used was 10 Cairina moschata and 10 Mule Duck. The results of the data processing of this study used a t test method in SPSS. The results of this study were the consumption of Mule Duck feed is much more than Muscovy Duck, the weight gain of Mule Duck is much more than Muscovy Duck, and Mule Duck have a lower feed conversion ratio compared to the Muscovy Duck. This experiment concluded that Mule Duck performance are more superior compared to Muscovy Duck.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of raising pigs in the city of Palangka Raya on the incidence of African Swine Fever (ASF). This research is field research using a survey method and the selection of pig pens was carried out using purposive sampling. Correspondents drawn from 15 pig farmers, and pig farming business actors were interviewed and observed about cases of ASF incidents on their farms. The research variables used were the pen system, expert system, health system, and handling system for pigs affected by ASF and not affected by ASF. Data analysis is presented in tabular form and described in the discussion. The research results showed that 14 farmers in the city of Palangka Raya were affected by ASF (93.33%). 11 correspondents (73.33%) had knowledge of ASF cases and immediately reported them to the relevant agencies and 10 correspondent (66.6%) reported them to the nearest veterinarian and 11 correspondent (73.3%) of breeders did not have cages quarantine separating pigs affected by ASF from those not affected by ASF. It was concluded that the rearing system for pigs in the city of Palangka Raya has an influence on the condition of pigs through prevention and a good rearing system.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the potential of binahong leaf extract (Anredera cordifolia) against Salmonella sp. This study used 5 treatments consisting of P(-) Blank Disk as negative control, P(+) chlorampenicol Disk as positive control, P1 binahong leaf extract concentration 60%, P2 binahong leaf extract concentration 80%, P3 binahong leaf extract concentration 100 %. The results of this study indicated that binahong leaf extract at concentrations of 60%, 80% and 100% had the potential to reduce the growth of Salmonella sp, due to the presence of quite a lot of antibacterial levels in binahong leaf extract. The antibacterial levels of binahong leaf extract include (1) Tannins (positive) (2) Saponins (moderately positive) (3) Falvonoids (weakly positive) (4) Steroids (weakly positive) (5) Alkaloids (positive) (6) Phenolics ( weak positive). Antibacterial content in the form of saponins, falvonoids, alkaloids, phenolics and tannins which are the causes of Binahong leaf extract being able to inhibit the growth of Salmonella sp on Muller Hinton Agar (MHA) media.

Abstract

Escherichia coli is one of the causes of colibacillosis in poultry. Escherichia coli resistant can be transmitted to humans through animal products and animal waste in the environment as a problem in humans and animals. Antibiotics can be continues to experience resistance which will lead to multidrug-resistant (MDR). The aim of this research was to detect multidrug resistance against Escherichia coli bacteria in broiler chickens at the Balongsari traditional market, Surabaya. The samples used were 24 cloacal swabs from broiler chickens. Isolated and identified samples were culture media, in the form of eosin methylene blue agar (EMBA), Gram staining, Triple Sugar Iron Agar (TSIA), Sulfide Indole Motility (SIM), Simmons Citrate Agar (SCA), indole test, methyl Voges Proskauer (MR-VP). Detection of multidrug resistance confirmation with Mueller-Hinton Agar (MHA) media. The results of isolation and identification of Escherichia coli bacteria in this study showed 83%. Antibiotic resistance testing using the diffusion method showed that the highest antibiotic resistance results occurred in the antibiotics ciprofloxacin 85%, tetracycline 60%, kanamycin 45%, chloramphenicol 25% and aztreonam 20%. The multidrug resistance results showed that Escherichia coli bacteria was 45%. This data confirms the existence of Multidrug resistance against Escherichia coli bacteria in broiler chickens at the Balong Sari traditional market in Surabaya which has an impact on public health.

Abstract

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral infection with a high mortality rate in cats. This disease is caused by a coronavirus (FCoV). FIP has two types namely wet type (effusive) and dry type (non effusive). Clinical symptoms in this case include anorexia, lethargy, jaundice, fever, and significant weight loss. The wet type causes about 70-80% of all cases of this disease and is more malignant than the dry type. The wet type is characterized by an accumulation of fluid in the abdominal cavity, chest cavity, or both. FIP case in the cat Tina, weight 2.99 kg, body temperature 40.30°C, normal CRT, female sex, 11 months old with calico hair color. Supporting diagnoses are generally needed to confirm the diagnosis of FIP because this disease does not have specific symptoms. Some supporting diagnostic tools for Bela cats are rapid FIP antibody tests. The differential diagnosis of this case was ascites due to FIP compared to ascites due to congestive heart failure or hypoproteinemia (kidney and liver disease), pregnancy, and trauma. Treatment in this case is furosemide, tolfedin, ornipural, channa blister, cefotaxime, samilyn and Exterminate FIP.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengetahui risiko infeksi endoparasit Strongyloides dan Coccidia di Unit Pelaksana Teknis Pembibitan Ternak dan Hijauan Makanan Ternak Batu. Sebanyak 62 sampel feses sapi perah peranakan frissiean holstein diperiksa dengan menggunakan metode apung dan sedimentasi. Pemeriksaan dilaksanakan dengan mengambil feses segar yang dikoleksi dan diperiksa di Unit Pelaksana Teknis Laboratorium Kesehatan Hewan Malang. Hasil pemeriksaan menunjukkan adanya 11 ekor (17,7%) terinfeksi Strongyloides dan 4 ekor (6,5%) terinfeksi Coccidia. Kebersihan kandang dan program pencegahan endoparasit menjadi faktor utama dalam eradikasi endoparasit di Unit Pelaksana Teknis Pembibitan Ternak dan Hijauan Makanan Ternak Batu. Kata kunci: coccidia, endoparasit, prevalensi, strongyloides.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a decrease or loss of the kidney's ability to excrete unused products, concentrate urine and convert electrolytes. A female Domestic short hair cat with clinical findings of Polyuria/polydipsia, decreased muscle mass, anorexia, dehydration, hypersalivation. Defecation was found a solid, dry, black-brownish yellow consistency (Score 2) and urine was dark yellow. The physical examination revealed a drastic decrease in body temperature and tachycardia. Hematological examination showed leukocytosis and hypochromic macrocytic anaemia. The result of blood smear tests showed the presence of neutrophils and other lymphocytes in large numbers. Blood chemistry analysis showed an increase BUN and creatinine (Azotemia) and also increase SGOT. Urinalysis examination revealed proteinuria, ketonuria, urobilinogenuria and hypersthenuria. Fecal examination revealed positive helminthiasis in the form of Toxocara cati eggs which was confirmed by the finding of adult worms in the duodenum during necropsy. The therapy given to the case cat included 50 ml/kgBW Ringer's lactate, 0,5 ml/kgBW Amoxicillin-Clavulanate, 2 mg/kgBW Ranitidine, 0,2 mg/kgBW Ipakitin® and 0,5 ml/kgBW Imboost®. A week after therapy, the cat's condition deteriorated further, with an undetectable temperature, seizures, critical condition and not being able to survive, so a necropsy was carried out. Macroscopic results of the kidneys during the necropsy procedure showed that the korteks of kidneys were pale with no change in size. The histophatology finding in the kidneys are necrosis and fibrosis tubulointerstitial. Microscopy finding in duodenum is inflammation and adult worm Toxocara cati in the lumen duodenum. The conclusion is this cat with diagnose Chronic kidney disease with histophatologycal finding is glomerulonephritis and duodenitis.

Abstract

Bandotan leaves (Ageratum conyzoides) are one of the traditional medicinal plants that are trusted empirically by the community to treat various diseases. Several studies report the potential of bandotan leaves as an antibacterial because they contain the chemical compounds trepanoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, essential oils, and tannins. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of bandotan leaves on the growth of Salmonella enterica serovar typhimurium bacteria in vitro. This research used the Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method with the antibiotic chloramphenicol as a positive control, CMC 1% as a negative control, and an ethanol extract of bandotan leaves with concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%. Re-identification of bacteria was carried out using Gram staining, and effectiveness testing was carried out on Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) media. The results of the study on Gram staining showed uniform morphological characteristics of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium bacteria and the diameter of the inhibition zone formed at concentrations of bandotan leaf ethanol extract of 25% (8.02 mm ± 0.41), 50% (8.37mm ± 0.69) and 75% (8.78mm ± 0.78). It can be concluded that the ethanol extract of bandotan leaves at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% has a weak category of inhibitory activity against the growth of Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium bacteria in vitro.
