Abstract

Unilateral ureteral obstruction can occur in all animals and it is located proximal, medial and distal. Obstruction causes abnormalities in ipsilateral ureters in the form of hydrouterers. The aim of this study was to detect hydroureters in post-unilateral medial and distal ureteric rats using a 10 MHz ultrasonography frequency. Thirty-six female Sprague Dawley rats aged 3 months were divided into 3 treatment groups. Each group consisted of 12 individuals. Group I as a control received laparotomy treatment. Group II laparotomy with medial right-hand ureteral ligation and group III with right distal ureteral ligation. Three rats taken randomly from each group at weeks 1, 2, 3 and 4 post-ligation is then performed ultrasonography. The results of ultrasonography were analyzed descriptively, comparatively but ureteral diameter were analyzed using statistical of 3x4 factorial patterns. Ultrasound examination showed that ligation in one ureter caused rat undergoing unilateral ureteral obstruction and hidroureter. The diameter of the ureter with a hydroureter has increased from the 1st to 4th week. The increase occurs because the urine in the lumen cannot be excreted. The contralateral ureter remains normal and cannot be observed. The conclusion of the study is that hydroureter in rats can be detected using the frequency of 10 MHz ultrasonography which is characterized by anekoic tubular formation posterior to the right kidney. The unilateral ureteral obstruction has no effect on the contralateral ureter because it is still able to compensate for the performance of the ipsilateral ureter that has a hydroureter. The difference in the location of ligation and time of examination affect the increase in ipsilateral ureteral diameter.

Abstract

An 11-year-old female Beagle dog weighing 18 Kg was brought to the clinic with redness discoloration in her right eye, a cherry like lump, and ocular discharge. Based on the clinical signs, the diagnosis was a prolaps of the nictitating membrane or “Cherry Eye” with a fausta prognosis. The treatment was a surgery using the Morgan Pocket method to maintain the mobility of the nictitating membrane and lymphoid tissue. The postoperative therapy given was the anti-inflammatory drug meloxicam 0.2 mg/kg once a day orally and gentamicin eye ointment (Genoint 0.3% Eye Oint) topically twice a day. Five days after the surgery and treatment, the dog's eyes had improved, and there was no lump observable.

Abstract

A humeral fracture is a discontinuity of the humeral bone due to an injury or illness. A three-year-old black mongrel female dog weighing 12.5 kg was brought to the Jungle Veterinary Clinic in Bekasi City, Indonesia, due to lameness and swelling in the left front limb. The radiological examination indicated an oblique fracture of the distal diaphysis of the left humerus. Haematological and biochemistry tests indicated neutrophilia, leukocytosis, and decreased erythrocyte, haemoglobin, hematocrit, MCV and MCH levels, while the levels of globulin and ALP were elevated. An orthopaedic surgery was performed using cerclage wires in conjunction with the intramedullary pin approach to immobilize the fracture. Post-surgery medical treatments were oral Amoxicillin 20 mg/kg, tramadol 5 mg/kg, meloxicam 0.1 mg/kg, Curcuma™ ½ tablet, Sangobion™ ½ tablet, and Kalmicetin™ ointment for topical wound dressing twice a day. The surgical wound healed and front leg function improved seven days after surgery

Abstract

Abstract

Lipoma in birds is a benign tumor of adipose cells that often occurs in the subcutaneous area. White-rumped shama, more than three years old, was rushed to the puskesmas with symptoms of decreased activity and singing ability. The results of the examination were two round, multi-focal masses, firmly demarcated, yellowish in color with a soft, chewy consistency measuring ± 4 x 2 x 1 cm on the chest and ± 1 x 1 x 1 cm. in the abdominal area, firmly attached to the subcutaneous layer since six months ago, and getting bigger. The feathers around the mass are shed and vascularized on the surface of the mass. Surgery was performed because the mass suspected of being a tumor growing rapidly and causing pain. It was fasted two hours before surgery and the anesthetic used was a combination of ketamine HCl and xylazine. Postoperative therapy using the antibiotic enrofloxacin, ketoprofen analgesics, 0.9% NaCl fluid therapy and topical antibiotic gentamicin ointment. The tumor that has been successfully removed is yellowish in color with several areas of hyperemia and an oily surface. The results of histopathological examination characterized by the presence of adipose cells that appeared to proliferate well confirmed that the tumor was a lipoma.

Abstract

A rehabilitation center for Javan Lutung animals in East Java carries out routine checks on rehabilitated animals to prevent diseases that can affect health. Diseases that can infect these endangered animals are not only diseases that are inside the body but also outside the body such as lice infestation. The purpose of this study was to identify the species of louse that attack Javan langurs in an effort to increase information on ectoparasite species in these endemic animals. The sample was obtained from an adult Javan langur, then the sample was preserved by the unstained Slide mounting method. The results were observed using a microscope and body length was measured using the ImageJ software. The results showed that the ectoparasite shape has a flat-dorsoventral body with a total body length of 1.65 mm. From morphometry and morphological characteristics, the samples identified were the male species of Pedicinus ancoratus.

Abstract

Urolithiasis is a common disease affecting the urinary tract, including the bladder. This disease characterized by the presence of stones in the urinary tract. Urolithiasis is caused by a build up of mineral crystals. A two-year-old female mixed breed cat with a body weight of 2 kg was brought to the Ontosenovet clinic, Malang City with complaints of anorexia, oligouria, stranguria, and hematuria. The results of physical examination found that the cat was lethargy, 6% dehydrated and at the time of urination the urine was hematuria. The supporting examination is carried out in the form of ultrasound examination (USG). The results of ultrasound examination showed a hyperechoic colored foreign object with an oval shape with smooth edges at the base of the bladder which was suspected to be calculi and resulted in acoustic shadowing at the bottom of the calculi. The cat is diagnosed with urolithiasis with the prognosis of fausta. The procedure is performed is a cystotomy to take calculi in the bladder. Postoperative therapy is marbofloxacin antibiotic injection therapy (SC) 2 mg/kg BW and dexamethasone anti-inflammatory injection therapy (SC) 0.2 ml/cat. Therapy was continued with the administration of the oral antibiotic amoxicillin 25 mg/kg BW, metronidazole antibiotic 15 mg/kg BW, and dexamethasone 0.5 mg/kg BW as an anti-inflammatory. The cat experienced changes after surgery and was given therapy for five days marked by smooth urination without hematuria and no pain at the time of urination.
