Abstract

The competition in the global education market at the national level requires both public and private universities in the South Kalimantan region, as they must continue to strive to adapt to the demands of change and government policies if they want to survive. Enhancing services is essential for efficient university governance, particularly in the administrative domain. Traditionally performing routine work, non-academic staff must demonstrate an openness to change to fulfill changing service expectations. This study examines the variables that affect non-academic staff members' openness to change, emphasizing the functions of transformational leadership, transparent communication, and organizational trust. The research employs a quantitative design, with a cross-sectional survey design. The 251 participants were selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used include adapted scales such as the Openness to Change Scale, the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Form 5X-Short, the Transparent Communication Scale, and the Organizational Trust Inventory-Short Form. The multiple linear regression was utilized to analyze the data. The results show that transformational leadership, transparent communication, and organizational trust collectively affected openness to change, but only organizational trust individually affected openness to change. Therefore, these factors must be carefully considered and maintained to enhance non-academic staff's openness to change within universities.

A quantitative method, employing a survey approach, was used to collect data from 150 employees at a private company. The analysis results showed that organizational commitment and leadership had a positive and significant effect on employee performance, while job satisfaction and competence did not show a significant impact. However, simultaneously, all four variables had a significant effect on performance. This study highlights the importance of commitment and leadership in supporting employee performance, which positively impacts the achievement of organizational goals. These findings provide valuable insights for human resource management, particularly in employee planning and development to enhance the company's competitiveness.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) scores on the cost of equity capital (COE) in ASEAN-5 countries, focusing on the moderating roles of national governance quality and tax compliance. Using panel data from publicly listed firms between 2018 and 2022, the study employs panel data regression analysis with both fixed and random effects models to capture cross-sectional and time-series variations. The results reveal three key findings: (1) higher ESG scores significantly lower the cost of equity, indicating that strong ESG performance reduces perceived risks and boosts investor confidence; (2) tax compliance has no statistically significant moderating effect on the ESG-COE relationship, possibly due to weaker institutional frameworks in the ASEAN-5 region; and (3) the reduction in the cost of equity is more pronounced in countries with strong national governance, emphasizing the role of institutional quality in enhancing the financial benefits of ESG practices. These findings highlight the importance of aligning corporate ESG strategies with strong governance systems to maximize financial and sustainability outcomes in the ASEAN region, offering valuable insights for investors, academics, and policymakers.

Abstract

COVID-19 and digitalization brought new challenges for organizations. Organizations needed to be agile to face these challenges. Innovation was the key for organizations to sustain their presence in the business world. This study examined the impact of public service motivation (PSM), organizational climate (OC), and psychological empowerment (PE) on innovative work behavior (IWB) in a public organization. Using a quantitative approach with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) in LISREL 8.8, the results indicated that PSM and OC have a positive effect on PE. PE, in turn, enhanced IWB. Mediation analysis showed that PE partially mediated the relationship between the independent variables and IWB. The findings suggested that fostering creativity, autonomy, and recognition within the organization is key to enhancing innovation.

Abstract

The development of digital-based technology has triggered the phenomenon of Tech Winter, leading to layoffs and increasing job insecurity among surviving employees. This study aims to analyze the effect of perceived organizational support (POS) on job insecurity and its impact on the task performance and innovative behavior of layoff survivors. The study also explores how affective commitment acts as a mediator, while financial job dependence and organizational cynicism serve as moderators in the relationship between job insecurity and work performance, as well as innovative behavior among layoff survivors in digital technology companies. This research employs the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) method to analyze the relationships between variables. The sample consists of 262 respondents who are layoff survivors working in digital technology companies in Indonesia. The results show that perceived organizational support (POS) has a significant effect in reducing job insecurity, which in turn improves task performance and innovative behavior. Affective commitment serves as a significant mediator, while financial job dependence and organizational cynicism moderate the impact of job insecurity on work outcomes. These findings highlight the importance of organizational support in mitigating job insecurity for employees after a layoff.

Abstract

It is widely believed that the underwriter affects the IPO performance of the issuing firm. This research investigates how the reputation of underwriters influences the initial returns of IPOs, considering the moderating effect of the listing board. This study focuses on the data from 305 IPO Companies between 2018 and 2023. This data is being analyzed using an Independent Sample t-test and Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression analysis. The study finds that IPOs underwritten by prestigious underwriters typically experience lower underpricing, attributable to the underwriters’ ability to reduce information asymmetry and select higher-quality issuers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of financial technology (fintech) adoption on unemployment rates in 77 developing countries with observation periods in 2014, 2017, and 2021. Fintech is represented by four main indicators, namely bank account ownership (BA), internet use for payments (IU), digital transactions (DP), and mobile money account ownership (MMA). The research data were sourced from the Global Findex Database and the World Bank, analyzed using panel data regression with a Random Effect Model (REM) approach through the Generalized Least Squares (GLS) method. The results of the study show that economic growth (GDP growth) has a significant negative effect on unemployment rates, in accordance with Okun's law. In terms of fintech, bank account ownership (BA) has a significant negative effect on unemployment, confirming the role of formal financial access in increasing employment opportunities. Conversely, internet use for payments (IU) has a significant positive effect on unemployment, indicating that passive utilization has not been able to encourage the creation of new jobs. Meanwhile, the variables of digital transactions (DP) and mobile money account ownership (MMA) did not show a significant effect on unemployment. Overall, the results of the study confirm that fintech has the potential to reduce unemployment rates in developing countries, but its impact is highly dependent on the form of adoption and the level of active use. The results have significant implications for financial inclusion policies and the role of financial technology in creating job opportunities.

Abstract

Financial literacy remains a major challenge for coastal women-owned MSMEs in South Sulawesi, particularly those engaged in fisheries, food processing, and local handicrafts. A limited understanding of formal financial products and the absence of systematic record-keeping have hindered their business competitiveness. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an e-module as a digital learning medium in improving the financial literacy of coastal women entrepreneurs. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test control group. A total of 60 respondents were selected purposively from four regions: Makassar City, Palopo City, Takalar Regency, and Pinrang Regency. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire with high reliability. The findings revealed a significant improvement in financial literacy among the experimental group, with an average N-Gain Score of 62.12% (moderately effective), compared to the control group, which achieved 48.78% (less effective).

Abstract

This study examines how employee empowerment influences production employees’ performance, with sense of belonging serving as a mediating mechanism. In competitive operations, empowerment that grants autonomy, recognizes contributions, and invites participation in decisions is expected to strengthen attachment to the organization and, in turn, productivity. The study contributes evidence from Indonesia’s agro-manufacturing sector, an important yet underexamined context. A quantitative explanatory design was employed. Relationships among constructs were estimated using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. The population consisted of 98 production employees at PT Batu Gunung Mulia Putra Agro; total sampling yielded 42 respondents, including 40 employees and two supervisors. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire on a five-point Likert scale. Results indicate that empowerment significantly increases both sense of belonging and performance. Sense of belonging also exerts a positive effect on performance and mediates the relationship between empowerment and performance, suggesting an indirect pathway from empowerment to outcomes. Model diagnostics show accuracy, with R-square values of 0.631 for sense of belonging and 0.856 for performance. These findings imply that autonomy, recognition, and participatory decision-making are effective levers for cultivating emotional bonds and sustaining productivity. Organizations are encouraged to institutionalize empowerment-based policies to enhance performance.
