Abstract

Abstract

The presence of smartphones and their features provides various conveniences. But behind the convenience presented, smartphones can cause phubbing behavior problems. This study aims to test whether there is an effect of fear of missing out (FoMO), smartphone addiction, and loneliness on phubbing behavior. This study used a quantitative approach. The research sample amounted to 340 Generation Z aged 15 to 27 years who owned smartphones and were domiciled in Kota Tangerang. Sampling using a non-probability sampling technique, namely convenience sampling. The measuring instruments used in this study were The Phubbing Scale (PS) instrument scale, the Trait-State Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) scale (T-SFoMOS), a modification of the smartphone addiction scale-short version (SAS-SV), and A Rasch-Type Loneliness Scale. This study used multiple regression analysis techniques. The results of the analysis proved that the hypothesis was accepted, namely, there was a significant influence of the variables fear of missing out (FoMO), smartphone addiction, and loneliness on phubbing behavior by 0.841 or 84.1%, and the remaining 15.9% was influenced by other variables outside this study.

Abstract

Korean drama viewers in Indonesia have experienced a significant increase during the pandemic. The high interest in watching Korean dramas has an impact on the entry of Korean culture which is then imitated by teenagers. The imitating behavior of teenagers is certainly inseparable from parental control. This study aims to determine empirically the role of parental control and conformity with peers on imitating adolescent behavior from Korean drama shows. This study uses quantitative methods. The population used is teenagers in the city of Solo Raya. The participants of this study were 198 teenagers who are fans of Korean dramas, which were obtained by incidental sampling technique. The measuring tool used is a questionnaire using a Google form that is distributed through social media. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The results showed that parental control and peer conformity together played a role in imitating behavior. The effective contribution of parental control and peer conformity is 7.4%. With parental control of 2.2% and conformity of 5.2%. The results of the hypothesis test state that only conformity plays a role in imitating behavior. The implication of this research is that teenagers who like Korean dramas prefer things that can be imitated according to social and cultural norms in society.

Abstract

Online game addiction among adolescents is currently a major concern for parents in Indonesia. The parenting style implemented by parents can be one of the factors that trigger online game addiction in adolescents, one of which is the permissive parenting style. The main aim of this study is to investigate the effect of permissive parenting style on online game addiction mediated by psychological well-being, referring to the I-PACE theory. The quantitative method was employed in the study and respondents were selected using the purposive sampling technique. Participants in this study were adolescents aged 16-20 years throughout Indonesia who were collected by distributing questionnaires via social media. Data were collected from 269 respondents who were analyzed using the mediation model regression technique by Hayes with PROCESS software on the IBM SPSS version 25 for Windows application. The results of this study indicated that psychological well-being did not significantly mediate the effect of a permissive parenting style on online game addiction. However, psychological well-being significantly predicted online game addiction directly. Meanwhile, a permissive parenting style significantly predicted online game addiction. Permissive parenting style also significantly predicted psychological well-being. The permissive parenting style of fathers has a stronger effect on online gaming addiction.

Abstract

The study aimed to test the effect of social comparison on schadenfreude in early adulthood individuals mediated by self-esteem. Respondents were individuals aged 18 to 24 (n = 350) who were taken using accidental sampling techniques. The Iowa-Netherlands Social Comparison Measurement (INCOM) with a reliability of 0.720 was used to measure an individual’s social comparison level. Schadenfreude scale with a reliability of 0.925 was used to see the individual’s schadenfreude, and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) with a reliability of 0.872 was used to measure the individual’s self-esteem level. Data were analyzed by using simple and multiple regression analysis techniques with a significance level of 0.05. The results of this study showed that self-esteem mediates the effect of social comparison on schadenfreude in early adulthood individuals by providing them with a suppressor effect.

Abstract

Instagram is a visual-based platform that is popular among teenagers. Beauty standards on Instagram have an impact on users' body image. Dissatisfaction with body image causes individuals to make social comparisons which can reduce self-esteem. The higher the level of comparison, the greater the impact of body image on self-esteem. This study aims to determine the influence of social comparison, body image, and self-esteem variables. This research uses a quantitative approach and a cross-sectional correlational design. The population of this study was 155 with the characteristics of active Instagram users, aged 12-19 years, and domiciled in Surabaya, using convenience sampling data collection techniques. Findings reveal that body image influences adolescents' self-esteem (F = 48.576  p < .001). However, social comparison has no effect in moderating body image on increasing or decreasing self-esteem. Research findings show that Instagram is a platform for adolescents to seek feedback and shape their body image through social comparison with existing content, thus influencing individual self-esteem.

Abstract

This study adapts and analyzes the psychometric properties of the Student Subjective Well-being Questionnaire developed by Renshaw in Indonesian with a sample of students. The adaptation of this measuring instrument goes through several stages, starting from translation, back translation, testing the reliability coefficient and collecting validity evidence in the form of content-based testing and internal structure testing using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). This study involved a sample of 296 high school students in Cimahi City. Testing the reliability of the Indonesian version of SSWQ, the Cronbach alpha result was 0.84. In addition, testing the evidence of internal structure using CFA shows that the Indonesian version of the SSWQ instrument has an acceptable goodness of fit index (RMSEA=0.03, SRMR=0.03, CFI=0.98, and p-value chi squre=0.086). The factor loadings of the items were in the range of 0.54-0.768. It can be concluded that the Indonesian version of the SSWQ measuring instrument has good psychometric properties so that it can be used for research or assessment purposes to measure student well-being in schools that are brief, valid and reliable. This study suggests that the Indonesian version of the SSWQ is developed with a wider variety of samples with a larger sample size.

Abstract

Abstract

Apart from providing various conveniences, excessive internet use can also have negative impacts, one of which is problematic internet use (PIU). This research aims to find out studies regarding problematic internet use in teenagers so that further research can be carried out. The research method used is a biometric analysis using VOSviewer on published articles indexed by Scopus from 2018 to 2023. The research results show that searching journals on the scopus.com site with the keyword "Problematic Internet Use" brings up 413 journals. After that, it was reduced based on four aspects, namely (1) scientific articles written in English, (2) literature in the form of scientific articles published in Scopus-indexed journals, (3) articles published in 2018-2023, and (4) open journals. access. After carrying out the exclusion process based on these limitations, 101 journals were included. Based on data on the development of Scopus-indexed journals regarding problematic internet use from 2018 to 2023, the highest development was in 2022 with 25 journals and the lowest was in 2019 with 10 journals. In author collaboration, there were 406 authors but only 17 authors collaborated and were members of five groups. This shows the lack of significance of collaboration between authors. Apart from that, several research variables have opportunities for further research, such as those related to PIU prevention, family relationships, and emotional regulation.

Abstract

Sexual violence in Indonesia is one of the biggest problems that must be overcome immediately, especially in the campus environment. One of the attempts that can be conducted is to afford bystander intervention programs in psychoeducation training form. This study determines the effectiveness of the bystander intervention program called Do Something to reduce rape myth acceptance and increase empathy, assertiveness, and bystander intervention behavior. This research used a within-subjects design with four times measurements (before and after the first intervention, after the second intervention, and after two weeks of follow-up). The research participants were 14 students of Indonesia University of Education aged 18-25 years who had never participated in psychoeducation activities on sexual violence. The measuring instruments used in this study consisted of 4 measuring instruments, namely Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance Scale – Subtle Version (IRMA-S), Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI), Functional Assertiveness Scale (FAS), dan Bystander Intervention Behavior Scale (BIBS). The results of the study showed that the Do Something 'bystander intervention program' was successful in having short-term effectiveness in women in reducing rape myth acceptance, increasing assertiveness, and bystander intervention behavior. It is expected that this program would be beneficial training in preventing sexual violence in the campus environment.
