Abstract

Impostor syndrome is a psychological phenomenon where a person cannot accept their achievements. This phenomenon is closely related to anxiety. In students, the form of anxiety associated with Impostor syndrome is academic anxiety. The research conducted aims to determine the dynamics of academic anxiety in high-achieving students who experience Impostor syndrome. The method used in the research is qualitative with a phenomenological approach to reveal the meaning of a phenomenon. The data collection method used was non-probability sampling with a purposive sampling technique.  The subjects in the study consisted of three students who experienced academic anxiety with impostor syndrome tendencies. The results showed that the dynamics of academic anxiety of subjects who experience Impostor syndrome have the same pattern which begins with a change in academic role that triggers feelings of impostor syndrome which ultimately forms academic anxiety that inhibits individuals from completing tasks and utilizing their potential, thus harming the subject's psychological, physical, and cognitive.

Abstract

Adolescence and smoking present a significant public health concern, with estimates suggesting 30% of global smokers fall within this age group. Smoking negatively impacts adolescents' daily lives across physical, psychological, and social domains, collectively known as Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL). This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the KINDL-R HRQoL instrument for Indonesian children and adolescents. The study involved 206 adolescents aged 14-17 years in Bandung, recruited using purposive sampling. Results of the development of the Indonesian version of the KINDL-R adaptation using Confirmatory factor analysis (validity) supported a six-dimensional model (p < .05). Internal consistency reliability (reliability) was good, with Cronbach's alpha values = 0.92. Test-retest reliability was also satisfactory, with item discrimination values exceeding 0.40 for most items. These findings suggest that the KINDL-R demonstrates good reliability and validity for assessing HRQoL in Indonesian adolescents.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine the influence of interpersonal trust and perceived interpersonal closeness on romantic relationship satisfaction in individuals undergoing online dating through one or more applications such as Tinder, Coffee Meets Bagel, as well as social networking applications like Facebook. The sampling technique used is the snowball sampling method with a sample size of 50 adult individuals above 18 years old, consisting of 38 women and 12 men, who had been in an online romantic relationship for at least 1 month. Data analysis uses multiple regression techniques. The research results show that there is an influence of interpersonal trust and perceived interpersonal closeness separately and together on romantic relationship satisfaction in individuals who experience online dating. Analysis of the data together shows an F value coefficient of 26.386 with a significance of 0.001 (ρ ≤ 0.05) and an R square of 0.658. This means that there is a very significant influence between interpersonal trust and perceived interpersonal closeness together on romantic relationship satisfaction in individuals undergoing online dating with a relative contribution of 65.8% while the remaining 34.2% is influenced by other factors not included in this research. The considerable contribution of interpersonal trust and perceived interpersonal closeness occurs because they collectively form the basis of intimacy and effective communication, as well as increasing feelings of emotional connection in the digital realm, thus increasing satisfaction in online dating.

Abstract

Empowering leadership is a leader who can influence the potential of individuals and teams to be creative and give autonomy to organizational employees. Empowering leadership has two dimensions, namely autonomous support and developmental support. Using instruments in different cultural backgrounds requires an adaptation process so that measurement results are valid and reliable. Still, until now, there has been no research on the adaptation of empowering leadership measuring instruments in Indonesia. This study aims to obtain and test a standardized Indonesian version of empowering leadership instruments. The adaptation process uses a structural equation model (SEM). Quantitative techniques were used in this study. Data was collected through the distribution of questionnaires online. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the results of this study show evidence of validity and reliability of 0.938 with Cronbach Alpha > 0.8 criteria entering an excellent and adequate scale but can still be improved by making certain modifications so that it can be a better measuring tool when applied to look at the phenomenon of empowering in employees.

Abstract

Self-efficacy is one of the essential things that students need to have, especially in academic performance. Self-efficacy has several sources, one of which is verbal persuasion in the form of verbal encouragement. Verbal encouragement can increase individual beliefs about their ability to complete tasks. This experimental study aims to determine the effect of verbal encouragement on self-efficacy.  The design used is a between-participant post-test only and conducted online. The sample of this study was 80 students of the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University, Bandung. The sample was randomly divided into two groups: The experimental group with verbal encouragement and the control group without intervention. Measurement of self-efficacy using two measuring instruments, General Self-efficacy Scale, which measures self-efficacy in general, and New General Self-efficacy Scale to measure self-efficacy more specifically, namely according to the research context. Data analysis using SPSS 26 and the results obtained based on the independent t-test showed that there was a significant effect of providing verbal encouragement on the level of self-efficacy of participants at p-value=0.0015 and p-value=0.000. This shows that giving verbal encouragement can increase the self-efficacy of participants who take tests, especially the Basic Indonesian Sign Language Quiz (BISINDO).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of family functioning on loneliness in adolescents who use online games. The research method used is quantitative with simple linear regression analysis techniques. The research respondents were 201 adolescents ages 12 to 16 years old obtained by nonprobability sampling technique using the incidental sampling method. Data collection was carried out with measuring instruments The University of California, Los Angeles Loneliness Scale Version 3 (UCLA) and the Indonesian version of the Family Assessment Device (FAD). The reliability of each measuring instrument is 0.861 for UCLA and 0.921 for FAD The results showed that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected, there is a significant effect between family functioning on loneliness in adolescents who use online games, it can be seen from the significance value which is 0.000 (p <.05) and the R2 value was 0.146 which means that family functioning affects the loneliness of adolescent online game users by 14.6%. Then the regression coefficient value is -0.185 which means that the effect of family functioning on loneliness shows the opposite direction (negative). Thus it can be concluded that the higher the family functioning, the lower the loneliness experienced by teenagers who use online games.

Abstract

Lupus not only brings an impact on the people suffering from it but also gives a burden for the family as the main treatment unit for the people with Lupus. Social support from family, friends or closest people is assumed to be able to grow the self-confidence of a family caregiver in coping with any drawbacks in caregiving as it can lessen the burden. This study specifically aimed to observe the impacts of the support of family, friends and closest people on the burden of caregiver through the mediator of self-efficacy to the family caregiver of people with Lupus. This article is a part of the thesis using the quantitative approach with family caregivers of people with Lupus as the research respondents (N=72). The research data collection was carried out online using Zarit Burden Interview, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Caregiver Self-Efficacy Measures. Data were analyzed by means of mediation analysis technique through JASP. The results of the study showed that self-efficacy only acted as a mediator for the relation between family support and the burden of the caregiver. Family support is a very important factor to increase caregiver self-efficacy which in turn can reduce the care burden for family caregivers.

Abstract

Student engagement involves student responsibility in the lecture process which can be influenced by fear of failure, in this relationship there is self-compassion that can bridge. Students with high fear of failure, but high self-compassion make it possible to manage the negative impact of fear of failure and ultimately student engagement increases. This study aimed to determine the role of self-compassion in mediating the relationship between fear of failure and student engagement. The sample in this study was 384 students who were taken using the convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using three scales, namely the student engagement scale, the self-compassion scale, and the fear of failure scale. Data analysis was conducted using mediation analysis with JASP to test the mediating role of self-compassion and PROCESS analysis to see the dynamics of the relationship between the three variables in more detail. The mediation analysis results showed a significant relationship between fear of failure and student engagement in Sebelas Maret University students through self-compassion. The mediating role of self-compassion provides a greater influence than the direct effect. Increasing fear of failure allows a decrease in self-compassion. Furthermore, an increase in self-compassion allows for an increase in student engagement.
