Abstract

Red spinach leaves (Amarantus gangeticus Hort) is one of plant that contain phenolic compound which has benefit for human. The aim of this study was to determine total phenolic content on n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water fractions of ethanolic extract of red spinach by Folin-Ciocalteu. Red spinach leaves were macerated by ethanol 70%, than were fractionated by of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Extract and fractions were analyzed the total phenolic content by Folin-Ciocalteu method. The study showed that total phenolic content of red spinach were (4,05%±0,175) GAE for ethanolic extract; (2,15%±0,045) GAE for n-hexane fraction, (11,03%±0,290) GAE for ethyl acetate fraction; (4,4%±0,180) GAE for water fraction.

Abstract

Ende leaf (Coccinia grandis (L.) Voigt) is the one of plant that most popular in Nusa Tenggara Timur province. The study was aimed to know the cytotoxic effect of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol fractions from ethanolic extract of ende leaf on hela cell and its IC50 value. Dried ende was macerated with 96 % ethanol solvent, then it was fractionated by n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol solvent. Then it was tested the cytotoxic by MTT (Microculture Tetrazolium Salt) method on HeLa cell The absorbance response was converted into abbreviation of cell viability. IC50 value was calculated with linear regression equation between logarithm of concentration samples versus percentage viability of HeLa cell. The result showed that the cytotoxic test of ende leaf against HeLa cell presented the IC50 value of ethanolic extract and n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol fractions were 415.719 ppm; 307.142 ppm; 50303.71 ppm; dan 50722.424 ppm, respectively.

Abstract

Acetosal is the oldest of pain medication which till now the most widely used worldwide and very effective to relieve pain with mild to moderate intensity, but so far the public lack an understanding of the role of food and beverages included when taking the drug. Tamarind juice is a beverage that contains acid, which acetosal also has acidic properties. If acetosal consumed together with the tamarind juice, it will cause gastric pH increases so the absorption of acetosal is increasing. The experiment was aimed to know the influence of tamarind juice given orally on acetosal pharmacokinetic profile in New Zealand White male rabbits. This experiment was divided into two groups i.e. control group and treatment group. The control group was given acetosal of 70 mg/1.5kg BW of rabbit, and the treatment group was given acetosal of 70 mg/1.5kg BW of rabbit and tamarind juice of 17.5 ml/1.5kgBW. Blood was drawn through marginal vena with sampling time at minute 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 120, 180, 240, 300 and 360. Determination of total salisylic acid level in blood was done by UV-Vis spectrophotometer according to modified different method. The result of the experiment showed that tamarind juice affected the pharmacokinetic profile of acetosal indicated by value increased of Ka, ClT, Vc, Vdss, and t½ β and value decreased of t max, K21, K, K12, AUC, α, and β

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is the bacteria that cause serious infections. This is supported by the presence of Staphylococcus aureus resistance to antibiotics. Air condition in the Elementary School classroom as a factor enabling the spread of infectious diseases in which elementary school is a community that consist of children aged between 6-12 years on average has not been able to be independent terms of cleanliness. Especially with irrational or excessive use of antibiotics in children appears to be more frequent and increasingly alarming. This research begins by sampling the air of bacteria with medium Vogel Johnson Agar to be opened for 30 minutes in elementary school classrooms. Samples obtained from nine elementary schools in Surakarta. Incubation at 37ºC for 24 hours. Identification test carried Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and then isolated. Staphylococcus aureus obtained is used as the test bacteria to antibiotics penicillin G, methicillin and vancomycin. The result of this study was from 27 point in nine elementary school there are 20 point containing Staphylococcus aureus. Based on sensitivity tests there are 30 % resistant to penicillin G, 5 % for methicillin and not anything for vancomycin. Mean while based on penicillinase test there are 6 point that Staphylococcus aureus produces penicillinase enzyme.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia associated with metabolic abnormalities of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins caused by decreased insulin secretion or decreased insulin sensitivity or both and causes chronic complications. Bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) contains antioxidant compounds such as flavonoids, phenols, and tannins which are used to reduce glucose levels in the blood. The research aimed to determine the potential activity of water and ethanol extracts with a concentration of 70%, and 96% of bottle gourd skin in inhibiting the activity of the α-glucosidase enzyme. Bottle gourds were extracted with water and ethanol using the maceration method. The extracts were identified by its chemical compound and tested for the inhibitory activity of the α-glucosidase enzyme.Based on phytochemical results, bottle gourd skin extracts contained flavonoids and saponins. Bottle gourd water extract had the lowest inhibitory.The highest value was ethanol 96% extract. Based on the results of the one-way ANOVA analysis test there was a significant difference in the inhibition of the enzyme α-glucosidase and based on the Duncan Test Pos Hoct Test the four treatments were significantly different. The best IC50 value in ethanol 96% bottle gourd skin extract was 0.487%. Therefore, ethanol 96% bottle gourd skin extract had the potential to inhibit α-glucosidase.

Abstract

The Lidah Mertua Plants (Sansevieria trifasciata) have active compounds namely Saponin, Polifenol, and Flavonoids that are able to work as antibacterials. Saponin content in the extracts of lidah mertua also work to help the formation of collagen is effective in accelerating the healing process of burns. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of healing of burns in rabbit animal experiments (Oryctolagus cuniculus) using ethanol extract of lidah mertua (Sansevieria trifasciata). The type of this study was pre experiment in which there were 5 treatments, ie 3 treatments and 2 controls with concentrations of 10% b/v, 15% b/v, and 20% b/v, and negative control using aquadest and positive control using bioplacenton. This sample was extracted by maceration method using ethanol 70%. The results showed that the extract of lidah mertua can heal burns, this was based on the results of anova test at the level of 95% confidence where F arithmetic (30)> F table (2.35) which means the hypothesis accepted. Followed by the BNT test (Beda Real Smallest) showed that the extract of tongue-in-law with concentration of 10% b/v, 15% b/v, and 20% b/v could produce different effect significantly, with optimum effect was tongue extract with 20% concentration.

Abstract

Para-Phenylenediamine is a synthetic hair dye that is widely used in hair dye products and has very strong sensitizer that can cause severe allergic reactions. Solution of this problem are the development of hair dye formulations with active ingredients obtained from teak leaves. Teak leaves contains anthocyanin which acts as a coloring agent. Teak leaves were extracted using the ultrasound assisted extraction method with ethanol 70% with a frequency in 40 kHz for 30 minutes then evaporated using a rotary evaporator. Formulation of hair dye using concentration extract : 10 (F1); 12.5 (F2); and 15% (F3). Physical evaluation of cream hair dye are organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity and diffusion test. Stability test using cycling test method. Teak leaf extract cream gives a reddish brown color to the hair. Homogeneity test show all formulas are homogeneous. pH test result of each formula was 6.297 ± 0.118 (F1), 6.770 ± 0.010 (F2) and 5.917 ± 0.045 (F3). The viscosity value of each formula was 11,400 ± 268,514 (F1), 11,463 ± 501,232 (F2) and 11,687 ± 283,078 cPs (F3). Spreadability test showed long spreadability of each formula was 5.326 ± 0.303 (F1), 5,072 ± 0.760 (F2), and 5,050 ± 0.092 cm (F3). The stability test results show that F3 is the most stable formula.

Abstract

The study was carried out to isolate and detect the resistance of E. coli bacteria from four livestock in Surabaya, Indonesia. This research used 40 samples of chicken thigh meat. The first step is isolated Escherichia coli bacteria using BGBB media (Brillilliant Green Bile Broth), and then used EMBA (Eosin Methylen Blue Agar) media for confirmatory tests, IMViC tests (Indole, Methyl Red, Voges Praskauer, and Citrat) to identify the enterobacteriaceae bacteria, and performed the gram staining test. Determined the Escherichia coli sensitivity to antibiotic by using disk diffusion method. Resistance test has resulted for ampicillin against E.coli is 100% resistance in all farms. In this research 13 of 40 samples from chicken meat had positive E.coli. The result from electrophoresis product of PCR said that resistance Escherichia coli had a specific band. Total 13 samples of positive Escherichia coli resistance ampicillin has specific DNA band primary shv with 768 bp in length.

Abstract

Home Pharmacy Care (HPC) expected to be provided by pharmacists for chronic illnesses or the elderly, however, the implementation is still far from the expectations of those who need it. It is the first qualitative study in Indonesia that aims to assess the need for HPC for elderly patients with Type 2 DM accompanied by hypertension in Cilacap. This is a preliminary study for subsequent research to create a model of HPC for elderly. Patient and health care providers’ perspectives were explored to reveal the need for HPC. This research uses qualitative methods and a survey with in-depth interviews. The survey was conducted by distributing questionnaires to pharmacists to describe the activities in HPC, their constraints. and the skills needed to carry them out. The research subjectsconsisted of 32 pharmacists, while the informants consisted of 4 doctors, 3 nurses, and 5 patients that met the saturation of the data. Only 3 pharmacists (9,4%) of the total research subjects have ever provided HPC, while the rest have never done so, however, pharmacists, health workers, and patients stated the need for HPC. Constraints revealed were limited human resources, time and finance. Pharmacists require medication education skills, diet, physical activity and foot examinations accompanied by adequate communication skills. Home pharmacy care is still rarely practiced in Cilacap, but it needs to be implemented selectively because it was supported by doctors, nurses, and patients. The need for HPC was relevant to be followed up with the establishment of a pharmaceutical service model.

Abstract

The development of herbal cosmetic products are currently increasing rapidly. One of them is a serum that is preferred by the community because it is more comfortable to use and easier to spread on the surface of the skin.. In general, serum contains antioxidant compounds that are potential as anti-aging in which the formula associated with antioxidant components in it. Ethanol extracts of wangon leaves have been studied to contain flavonoid compounds which have antioxidant potential. This research aims to make purified extracts of wangon leaves and then make serum cosmetic preparations that are tested for their physical quality and antioxidant stability and to test their potential as a sunscreen so that innovation can be expected to be produced. The study began with extracts made with 96% ethanol solvent. Subsequently, fractination has been carried out on crude extracts using liquid-liquid extraction methods, which successively use n-hexane and ethyl acetate solvents. The flavonoid content in purified extracts was monitored with TLC. Furthermore, a serum formulation was made with purified extract of wangon leaf extract and physical quality tests were carried out on the preparation including organoleptic, pH, viscosity and homogeneity. Furthermore, purified extracts and serum preparations were tested for their antioxidant activity by DPPH method and UV-Vis spectrophotometric determination. The results showed that purified leaves of wangon leaves had IC50 values ​​of 41.98 µg / mL better when compared to crude extracts with IC50 65.32 µg / mL. Serum preparations had an IC50 value of 71.30 µg / mL and were classified as potent antioxidants. After the preparation has been stored for 30 days, the antioxidant remains stable. In addition, the serum also had potential as a UV filter with an SPF value of 19.50 ± 0.02 which has been categorized as providing medium protection against UV B.
