Abstract

In order to screen natural antioxidant, the research about antioxidant of some Euphobiaceae herbs,have been conducted.The air-dried herbs of Euphorbia heterophyllaL,Phyllanthus  acidus  (L.) Skeels, and Phyllanthus  buxifolius  Muell Arg were extracted with metanol.The obtained extract was concentratedand then suspended to producen-hexane, ethyl acetat and aqueous fractions. Free radical scavenger activity against DPPH (1,1diphenyl2pycrylhydrazyl) measured by spectrophotometric method and the IC50 value was determined.The compounds of active fraction had been identified by TLC method. All of theherbs showed activity as DPPH scavenger.Among these herbs,Euphorbia heterophylla L. and Phyllanthus buxifolius Muell, Arg. exhibited a strong free radical scavenging of ethyl acetatfraction with IC50 value 5,883g/ml and 4,643g/ml.The result ofTLC by mobile phase n-buthanol acetic acid water(4:1:5) andacetic acid 15% showed flavonoid compound.

Abstract

Kanker adalah penyakit mematikan dan angka kejadiannya di Indonesia sangat tinggi. Data di Departemen Kesehatan didapati angka 1,8 per 100 ribu penduduk. Ironisnya saat ini belum ditemukan antikanker yang efektif dan aman. Minyak kayu manisyang diperoleh dari tanaman kayu manis (Cinnamomum burmannii) diduga memiliki aktivitas antikanker. Penelitian sebelumnya  bertujuan untuk isolasi, standarisasi minyak kayu manis sudah dilakukan. Saat ini penelitian dilanjutkan terhadap uji aktifitas serta keamanan minyak kayu manis untuk  mendapatkan fitofarmaka antikanker. Pengujian aktivitas antikanker  dengan menguji kemampuan penghambatan sel kanker terhadap sel line kanker WiDr (kanker kolon). Keamanan minyak kayu manisditentukan dengan melakukan uji toksisitas sub kronis terhadap mencit putih jantan.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa minyak kayu manis memiliki aktifitas sitotoksik terhadap kultur sel WiDr dengan IC50=13,70µg/ml.  Pemberian minyak kayu manis kepada hewan uji Tikus selama 1 bulan tidak memberikan perubahan biokimia darah BUN kreatinin, SGPT dan SGOT, serta hematologi Darah. Hasil histopatologi terhadap hepar dan ginjal juga tidak memberikan kerusakan sel kecuali pada dosis 0,04ml/200 g BB. Kata kunci:Minyak kayu manis, antikanker, WiDr, toksisitas

Abstract

Anacardium occidentale L. merupakan tanaman suku Anacardiaceae yang ditemukan secara luas di daerah tropik dan dapat tumbuh di segala macam tanah. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui efektifitas fraksi n-heksana, eter dan air dari ekstrak etanolik daun jambu mede sebagai antibakteri terhadap Shigella dysenteriae ATCC 9361. Penyarian daun jambu mede dengan metode maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96% dilanjutkan fraksinasi dengan pelarut n-heksana, eter dan air. Metode pengujian aktivitas antibakteri yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode difusi. Metode difusi untuk mengukur diameter zona hambat terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri dengan konsentrasi yang digunakan adalah 50%, 25% dan 12,5%. Fraksi paling aktif diuji kandungan kimianya secara KLT. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, metode difusi fraksi n-heksana memiliki diameter zona hambat rata-rata 16,7 mm pada konsentrasi 50%, 15,3 mm pada konsentrasi 25% dan 14,3 mm pada konsentrasi 12,5%. Fraksi eter memiliki diameter zona hambat rata-rata 21,7 mm pada konsentrasi 50%, 20,3 mm pada konsentrasi 25% dan 19,0 mm pada konsentrasi 12,5%. Fraksi air memiliki diameter zona hambat rata-rata 15,3 mm pada konsentrasi 50%, 14,3 mm pada konsentrasi 25% dan 13,3 mm pada konsentrasi 12,5%. Fraksi paling aktif eter diuji kandungan kimia secara KLT. Hasil identifikasi menunjukkan fraksi eter positif mengandung senyawa polifenol, flavonoid dan alkaloid.

Abstract

The use of aromatherapy was very well known in the community. The best-selling and quickly accepted product was aromatherapy oil. The benefits of aromatherapy were not only for health, but also for calming the mind and relaxation. Empowerment of PKK as members of the community and still classified as productive workforce was very important to do, aiming to foster awareness and independence in doing business, while expanding employment to increase family income in an effort to achieve a happy and prosperous family. In relation to efforts to foster and develop the potential of families and regions, it can be done through various alternative activities, including training in making aromatherapy oil product. The purpose of this community service program was to empower mothers and women through training and assistance in aromatherapy oil production. The target of this activity was PKK RW 04 Mojosongo Village, Jebres District, Surakarta City. The output of this activity was improving the skills of the community to produce aromatherapy wind oil and motivating business opportunities for PKK mothers. The method used in this service was training and assistance in aromatherapy oil production.

Abstract

Lavender (Lavandula officinalis Chaix) plant contains secondary metabolite such as volatile oil. Lavender oil can be used as antiseptic, anti-inflammation, repellant and antifeedant. The experiment was aimed to know the influence of NAA hormone in inducing lavender leaves callus and stimulating volatile oil in lavender leaf callus. The experiment was done by plant tissue culture technique. Explant cultivation in MS media with various NAA plant growth regulator concentrations, i.e. 1 mg/L, 2 mg/L, 3 mg/L. Observation and evaluation were conducted for the success of callus forming, callus induction time, and callus weight and then the volatile oil was analyzed by color test and TLC using mobile phase hexane-ethyl acetate (96:4) and stationary phase silica gel 60F254 and the spot was observed by anisealdehyde- H2SO4 spray. The result of the experiment showed that NAA plant growth regulator with difference concentrations affected callus formation 86,67%, the fastest callus induction time 5,69 days, and the biggest average weight of dry callus 0,070 gram. The callus obtained from tissue culture with addition of NAA plant growth regulator contained volatile oil component the same as mother plant.

Abstract

The leaves of guava (Psidium guajava L.) has been used and produced by industrial as an antidiarrheal. Active substances that act as an antidiarrheal in the leaves of guava are the tannins. Tannins are phenolic compounds that are soluble in water, ethanol or water-ethanol mixture. This study aims to determine the influence of solvent on yield and tannins content in the guava leaf extract and to determine the most optimal solvent for the manufacture of guava leaf extract with the maximum tannins content. The research was conducted by extracting the leaves of guava by maceration with ethanol 50%, 70%, 90%. Viscous extract obtained is then analyzed yield and tannins content. Quantitative analysis of tannins performed by permanganometry titration method. In this research shows that qualitatively the ethanol extract of guava leaves contain tannins. The results showed that solvent affect the yield and tannins content in the guava leaves extract. The yield of extract for 50%, 70%, 90% ethanolic extracts were 22,07%; 31,87%; 25,13%. Tannins content in the 50%, 70%, 90% ethanolic extract were 23,37%; 14,28%; 10,96%. The most optimal solvent for the manufacture of guava leaf extract with the highest tannin content was ethanol 50%.

Abstract

Antioxidant is very important to keep human’s health because of it can scavenge free radical. Flavonoid is usual natural antioxidant got on plants. Euphorbia heterophylla L. which is used by people as traditional herbal medicine and it has traditional name kate mas is known contain of flavonoid, tannin and saponin. The aim of the experiment was to find out the antioxidant activity of kate mas (Euphorbia heterophylla L.) herb and the potency of methanolic extract, hexane, etil acetat and water fractions, and also of kate mas herb on DPPH (2,2-difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil) radical with IC50 parameter. Kate mas herb were extracted by maceration method using methanol. The obtained extract was partitioned with water and hexane, and then with etil acetat. The antioxidant activity of the obtained fraction was tested against DPPH radical. The test was conducted in 4 series of concentrations by adding 4.0 ml test solutions with 1.0 ml DPPH 0.45 mM. The radicals scavenging activity was measured with spectrophotometer at 515 nm wavelength and determined the IC50 value. The experiment used rutin as positive control. The result of the experiment showed that kate mas herb had antioxidant activity with IC50 of methanolic extract, water fraction, n-hexane fraction, and etil acetat fraction: 44,43 ppm; 130,63 ppm; 212,81 ppm; and 5,88 ppm respectively. The etil acetat fraction has the strongest activity compairing to the other with the IC50 is almost near often rutin’s IC50 is 5,11 ppm as the positif control.

Abstract

Seligi (Phyllanthus buxifolius (BI.) M.A.) leaves contain flavonoid, polifenol, and saponin that have antioxidant activity and thought to potentially as antihiperlipidemic. This research was aimed to find out the effect of seligi leaves ethanol extract to increase HDL level and decrease LDL level in white rats. The subject of the research was 30 male white rats in 150-200 gram body weight and 2-3 months age. Rats were divided into 6 groups randomly then were given BR II and water everyday. Group I, II, and III were normal control group, the positive control (simvastatin), and negative control respectively. The treatment group was given seligi leaves extract in doses of 75; 150; and 300 mg/kg bw/day. The tested animal were given cow fat and yolk for two weeks up to hypercholesterolemia state, tested preparation was given on day-14 until the day-28. The HDL and LDL levels were measured on the day-0, 14, and 28 by CHOD-PAP method. The result of researchshowed that seligi leaves ethanol extract orally administration could increase the HDL and decrease the LDL levels of blood serum. Seligi leaf ethanol extract with dose 300 mg/kg bw/day had equal effectiveness to simvastatin.
