Abstract

The innovation of functional food products from local natural resources is one way to promote rural entrepreneurship and address food security. This community service activity aimed to empower the Kelompok Tani Kadugemblo by developing instant herbal drinks from butterfly pea (Clitoria ternatea) using the foam mat drying method. This program reached 50 individuals and comprised socialization, training, demonstrations, sensory analysis, and support with branding and packaging. The functional beverages, formulation, drying, and technology concepts were assessed using a pre- and post-test surrounding the participants’ knowledge. The mean pre-test score was 49.4%, while the post-test mean increased to 97.8%, resulting in a relative increase of 97.98%. These results indicate that the participatory and pragmatic approach strongly reinforced farmers’ knowledge and skills in producing instant beverage powders. It also increased understanding of the product, its attributes, the importance of shelf life, and the potential market for functional herbal drinks. This case study exemplifies the role of functional technology in fostering sustainable community development and rural economic growth.

Abstract

Financial literacy among labor unions is motivated by the limited ability of union leaders to read company financial reports, resulting in a weak, reactive bargaining position in industrial relations negotiations. The outreach activity aims to strengthen unions' technical capacity by providing a basic understanding of financial reports, data-based negotiation techniques, and the use of digital technology for communication and organizational management. The program was held over one day in a blended learning format that combined concept presentations, case studies, negotiation techniques, and an introduction to financial literacy books and applications, with evaluation through pre- and post-training questionnaires and open participant feedback. The results show an increase in participants' knowledge and confidence in analyzing financial information, high appreciation for the relevance of the material and the facilitators' competence, and the emergence of concrete plans to use the training results in the union's negotiation agenda and administrative strengthening, despite obstacles such as limited access to company financial reports, management resistance to transparency, and time constraints for administrators. In conclusion, financial literacy can be an important lever for labor unions to move from a pattern of dependency to knowledge-based autonomous action. Therefore, more in-depth follow-up training, post-workshop mentoring, and the development of institutional support are needed to ensure that this capacity-building is sustainable.

Abstract

This community service article discusses the importance of Islamic financial literacy as a means to build economic independence in the Sendang Village, Bringin District, Semarang Regency, in the context of the digital era. In recent years, digitalization has changed the way people access financial information and products, offering new opportunities for local economic development. However, the level of Islamic financial literacy in the village remains low, leading to underutilization of available Islamic financial products. Through a needs analysis, this community service article identifies knowledge gaps among the community and evaluates the impact of Islamic financial literacy training on family economic management. The results of the community service show that improving the community's understanding of Islamic financial principles and the use of information technology can improve their economic independence. This article emphasizes the need for collaboration between various stakeholders, including Islamic financial institutions and the government, to create an ecosystem that supports financial literacy. Thus, Islamic financial literacy is not only a tool for increasing knowledge but also an important pillar for achieving sustainable economic prosperity. This research is expected to significantly contribute to the development of relevant and adaptive financial literacy programs for rural communities in the digital era.

Abstract

Health services for older adults in residential care facilities require a holistic approach encompassing promotive, preventive, curative, and rehabilitative aspects. At Griya Kasih Siloam Elderly Care Home in Malang, health services are still primarily focused on meeting basic needs and rely heavily on external healthcare partners, underscoring the need to strengthen services through the integration of healthcare delivery and nursing education. The integration of service and academic activities is also essential to enhance students’ competencies, particularly therapeutic communication skills that are responsive to the characteristics of older adults. This community service program aimed to improve promotive and preventive health services through collaboration between educational institutions and elderly care facilities. The activities included health examinations, training in dementia care for caregivers, student-led elderly companion visits involving group interventions such as music therapy and cognitive therapy, and evaluation and follow-up. The activities were conducted over four sessions involving 90 students, older adults, and caregivers at Griya Siloam. Pre-test and post-test results demonstrated an increase in caregivers’ knowledge (n = 5) regarding dementia care, with mean scores improving from 62.5 to 88.5. In addition, student survey results (n = 90) indicated an 82% improvement in understanding and therapeutic communication skills with older adults, particularly in empathy and communication clarity. This program suggests the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration involving nutrition, physiotherapy, and psychology to enrich interventions and ensure truly holistic services tailored to the needs of older adults.

Abstract

Anemia is a health condition that can affect adolescents. Anemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells and hemoglobin levels is lower than normal. Efforts to prevent anemia can be made by increasing knowledge about anemia and conducting early detection of anemia. The community service activities included health education on anemia and on detecting it through hemoglobin (Hb) level testing. The activities aimed to improve the health of adolescent girls through early detection of anemia, anemia education, and brain health. Thirty female students participated in the activities. The health education was conducted through a lecture and question-and-answer method, with an LCD projector, slides, and booklets. Early detection of anemia involved hemoglobin testing using an Hb meter and peripheral blood samples. The activities ran smoothly, with all participants enthusiastically participating from beginning to end. Evaluation results showed that 30 (100%) participants did not experience anemia. The level of knowledge about anemia before the anemia education was mostly at a sufficient level (17 students (56.7%), and after the education, all 30 (100%) participants had a good level of knowledge. The activity provided benefits, increasing knowledge from fair to good, and providing baseline data on the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Early Childhood Education (PAUD) provides a critical foundation for child development from birth through entry into primary school. In Loa Janan District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, there are 43 PAUD institutions with 1,481 students and 126 teachers. Needs analysis revealed that the PAUD Teacher Working Group (KKG) Cluster V, comprising 9 schools with 325 students and 39 teachers, faces challenges including limited facilities, insufficient government support, conventional teaching methods, limited understanding of the greenship concept, and restricted access to training. This community service program aimed to introduce greenship innovation into educational media development through the use of sustainable materials and biophilic approaches, while providing hands-on training for teachers at TK A’Sidiq and TK Bina Anaprasa Melati, serving as training centers. The methods included socialization, participatory workshops, direct application of 3D mural and creative fence doll technologies, and continuous mentoring and evaluation. The results demonstrated significant improvement in teacher creativity, enabling them to design biophilic-based educational play media and apply interactive two-way learning with students. Teachers also acquired additional competencies to serve as instructors in other clusters, thereby enhancing both professional capacity and economic welfare. In conclusion, the program effectively strengthened teacher competencies in sustainable and innovative media development, aligned with Asta Cita, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Key Performance Indicators (IKU), and the National Research Master Plan (RIRN). Evaluation through questionnaires and observation confirmed a shift from one-way teaching to dynamic, collaborative learning, ensuring long-term sustainability and broader replication potential across other PAUD clusters.
