Abstract

Diabetes frequently remains undiagnosed in the early stages, resulting in delayed effective management. This study analyses the effectiveness of community-based health education in improving knowledge levels, early detection of diabetes risk, and diabetes risk factors, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and blood pressure, in the GKI Oikumene Bahtera Injil Aspol Remu community. It was a quasi-experimental study utilizing a prospective approach conducted over six months. There were 110 respondents, 55 in the intervention and 55 in the control group. The health education intervention comprised four intensive sessions encompassing diabetes comprehension, lifestyle management, and early detection of diabetes risk. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and physical parameter measurements. Data analysis used the paired t-test and chi-square test. The results showed that knowledge scores increased from 55.3 ± 10.2 to 82.4 ± 8.5 (p<0.001) in the intervention group. In addition, the early detection rate in the intervention group was higher, 70.9%, compared to that in the control group, which was 31.8%. In addition, there were significant reductions in body mass index (-1.2 ± 0.8 kg/m²) and systolic blood pressure (-5.4 ± 4.2 mmHg) compared to the control group. Physical activity also increased significantly (+45.6 ± 15.3) in the intervention group. Further, the 31–50-year age group has the highest early detection rates. Community-based health education increases knowledge levels and early detection of diabetes risk, as well as decreases diabetes risk factors, such as decreased body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure, and increased physical activity, especially in productive age groups

Abstract

causes of morbidity and mortality globally, with a significant impact on older people, particularly in regions with limited healthcare access, such as Southwest Papua. Community-based approaches, such as the Integrated Health Service Post program, potentially enhance the early detection and prevention of NCDs. However, the implementation still faces several challenges. This study evaluates the efficacy of the Integrated Health Service Post cadres training in improving the early detection and prevention of NCDs and healthy lifestyle changes among older people in Southwest Papua. It used a quasi-experimental design with a prospective approach involving 150 older people from six congregations of the Indonesian Protestant Church in Southwest Papua. The intervention comprised cadres training based on a structured module for the early detection and prevention of NCDs, followed by implementing the Integrated Health Service Post over six months. Data were collected using validated instruments and analyzed using statistical software. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in the early detection of NCDs in the intervention group compared to that in the control group (p<0.001). In addition, there are more significant improvements in physical activity and healthy eating habits and the reduction of NCD risk factors in the intervention group compared to the control group. Cadres' adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Integrated Health Service Post was also high. In conclusion, empowering health cadres through community-based training significantly improves preventive health outcomes among older people in areas with limited healthcare access. Abstract

The Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in Papua Province was 289 per 100,000 live births in 2017, rising to 565 per 100,000 live births by 2020. This study analyzes the correlation between parity and residence with maternal mortality due to miscarriage and abortion in Papua Province. This paper was a retrospective cross-sectional study. The population was comprised of reproductive-aged women aged 15-49 who participated in the Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS) 2020. There were 14,802 respondents by total sampling. Bivariate analysis used logistic regression at a 95% confidence level (α=0.05). The results showed that most respondents had less than or equal to three-born children (83.64%) and lived in rural areas (72.06%). In addition, 14.35% of them died due to miscarriage and abortion. The logistic regression test results on the parity variable indicated p=0.000 and negative Odds Ratio (OR)=0.475. It indicated respondents with more than three-born children had a higher risk of maternal mortality compared to those with less than or equal to three-born children. In addition, the test results of the residency variable showed p=0.000 and negative OR=0.394. It implied that respondents who lived in urban areas faced a higher risk of maternal mortality due to miscarriage and abortion compared to rural mothers. In conclusion, parity and residence significantly correlate with maternal mortality due to miscarriage and abortion.

Abstract

Pain during labor results from uterine contractions that cause cervical dilation, often leading to increased anxiety, vasoconstriction, and decreased oxygen levels. These factors can contribute to prolonged labor for the mother and potential hypoxia for the fetus. Effective pain management techniques, such as oxytocin massage, may help alleviate labor pain and improve maternal comfort. This study aimed to analyze the effect of oxytocin massage on first-stage labor pain. This quantitative study employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The research was conducted at TPMB Afah Fahmi, Surabaya, involving 17 laboring mothers selected through purposive sampling. Pain levels were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) ranging from 0 to 10. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-Test. Statistical analysis showed a significant reduction in first-stage labor pain following oxytocin massage, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This indicates a meaningful difference in pain levels before and after the intervention. Oxytocin massage effectively reduces first- stage labor pain, promoting a more comfortable labor experience. Healthcare providers are encouraged to integrate oxytocin massage as a non-pharmacological pain management strategy to support laboring mothers.

Abstract

The contraceptive method that dominates the choices of couples of childbearing age (PUS) in the city of Surabaya in 2022 is the Non-Long-Term Contraceptive Method (Non-MKJP) compared to the Long-Term Contraceptive Method (MKJP). The low number of acceptors of contraceptive implants is due to the anxiety level of potential acceptors. This research aimed to determine the effect of implant contraceptive counselling using flip charts on the anxiety level of potential acceptors. This research is pre-experimental design research. We used a purposive sampling technique to select the sample, which included 15 respondents. The independent variable was counselling on contraceptive implants using flip chart media, while the dependent variable was anxiety of potential acceptors. Data collection used the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) questionnaire. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used to analyse the presence of influence with a significance value of <0.05. The results of the study showed that the anxiety level of prospective acceptors before being given intervention, the majority (73.3%) of respondents had a mild level of anxiety after being given the intervention, with almost all (93.3%) of respondents having no anxiety. From the results of the analysis, the result was 0.001, which means <0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an influence of implant contraceptive counselling using flip chart media on the anxiety level of potential acceptors. Based on the description above, it can be concluded that there is an influence of implant contraceptive counselling using flip chart media on the anxiety level of prospective acceptors.

Abstract

Prospective brides are the target group in efforts to improve pre-pregnancy health. Ahead of marriage, many prospective brides do not have enough information about reproductive health in the family, so that after marriage, pregnancy is often not well planned and not supported by good health status. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of audiovisual e-modules on the behaviour of prospective brides about healthy pregnancy preparation. This research is a quantitative study that uses a quasi-experimental design with a control group and a two-group pretest-posttest design. Samples were taken using the purposive sampling technique, obtaining a total of 32 respondents. The independent variable is education with audiovisual e-module media and leaflets. While the dependent variable is the behaviour of prospective brides about healthy pregnancy preparation. Data collection using a questionnaire. In analysing the effect of using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test using α = 0.05%. The results of the study showed that intervention through audiovisual e-module media was effective in improving the behavior of prospective brides and grooms related to healthy pregnancy preparation (p = 0.000). The Wilcoxon Signed Rank test proved that there was a significant change. Health education using audiovisual e-module media effectively influences bride-to-be behavior in preparing for a healthy pregnancy. Therefore, it is recommended to enhance reproductive health during the preconception period.
