Abstract

This research was motivated by the low Tajwid learning outcomes of students at TPQ Nurul Jannah, Koto Baru Dharmasraya. This problem is assumed to be influenced by the learning methods used in the learning process. This study aims to (1) describe the learning methods used in Tajwid instruction, (2) describe students’ Tajwid learning outcomes based on educators’ assessments, and (3) determine the relationship between learning methods and students’ Tajwid learning outcomes at TPQ Nurul Jannah. This research is a quantitative correlational study. The population consisted of 46 students, while the sample consisted of 32 students selected using cluster random sampling. Data on learning methods were collected using a validated Likert-scale questionnaire covering four aspects: people, learning objectives, learning materials, and time and facilities. Learning outcome data were obtained from teachers’ assessment records. Data analysis used percentage formulas and Product Moment correlation. The results show that learning methods are still in the low category, students’ Tajwid learning outcomes are relatively low, and there is a significant relationship between both variables. Therefore, teachers are recommended to improve the variety and effectiveness of learning methods, and TPQ management should support adequate facilities. Future research is suggested to expand variables and context.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the participatory and comprehensive community empowerment carried out at the Sanggar Randai Sabatang Bungo in Pasar Lalang, where the community is actively involved in every activity. This studio not only focuses on randai, but also provides training in traditional dance, silat, and musical instruments, thus providing wider opportunities for members to develop their interests and talents. These activities contribute to improving artistic skills, self-confidence, togetherness, cultural awareness, and providing economic support. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. The research informants consisted of managers, facilitators, learners, and one community member. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using an interactive analysis model that includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was tested through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. The results of the study indicate that community empowerment is implemented systematically through three stages: awareness, capacity building, and empowerment. These stages are able to increase community participation, develop skills and discipline, and provide opportunities for self-actualization and economic benefits. Overall, the studio not only functions as a space for cultural preservation, but also as an effective means of empowerment in strengthening local cultural identity and increasing community capacity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning–Group Investigation (PBL–GI) learning model on students’ critical thinking and collaboration skills in the Women and Elderly Empowerment course. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of two groups: an experimental group that implemented the PBL–GI model and a control group that used conventional learning methods. The research instruments included a critical thinking test and a collaboration observation sheet. Data analysis was conducted using normality and homogeneity tests, t-test, as well as N-Gain and effect size calculations. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The experimental group experienced a higher improvement in critical thinking and collaboration skills compared to the control group. The N-Gain value of the experimental group was in the moderate to high category, while the effect size indicated a strong influence. These findings demonstrate that the PBL–GI model is effective in enhancing students’ critical thinking and collaboration skills. Therefore, this model is recommended as an innovative learning alternative in the context of nonformal education and community empowerment.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low basic ability of students to read the Qur’an, as they are still at the stage of learning the Hijaiyah alphabet, articulation points, and vowel marks. One factor suspected to influence this condition is students’ participation in the Quranic Reading and Writing (BTA) extracurricular activity. This study aims to determine the relationship between student participation and basic Quranic reading skills at SMPN 27 Padang. This study employs a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 22 students selected using simple random sampling. Data collection was conducted via a questionnaire to measure student participation and through documentation of grades to assess Quran reading ability. Data analysis utilized percentage calculations and the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results of the study indicate that student participation falls into the low category, with a predominance of the “rarely” category, while Quran reading ability remains at the basic level. The correlation test results show a significant relationship with a coefficient value of 0.681, which falls into the strong category. It is concluded that the higher the student participation, the better the Quran reading ability. Keywords: Participation, Quranic Reading and Writing (BTA) Extracurricular Program, Quran Reading Ability.

Abstract

This study addresses the low level of independence among farmer group members following their participation in the Sawah Pokok Murah (SPM) training program in Nagari Koto Berapak, Pesisir Selatan Regency. Many farmers remain dependent on external assistance in managing agricultural practices, indicating that training outcomes have not been fully internalized. This research aims to examine the relationship between post-training assistance and farmer independence. A quantitative correlational design was applied, involving 44 farmers selected through simple random sampling from a total population of 59. Data were collected using structured questionnaires based on a Likert scale. Post-training assistance was measured through monitoring, reinforcement, empowerment, and assessment, while independence was assessed through intrapersonal, interactional, and behavioral aspects. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Product Moment correlation. The findings show that post-training assistance is not optimally implemented, particularly in monitoring and reinforcement. Farmer independence is also relatively low, as indicated by continued reliance on external support. However, a significant positive relationship was found between post-training assistance and farmer independence.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the Sunday School activities which are generally understood only as faith formation activities for children in the church, but have not been widely examined as a form of nonformal education practice. This study aims to identify the reasons for the interest of Sunday School companions in serving and to understand the meaning of Sunday School as a practice of nonformal education at St. Ambrosius Church, Stasi Tabing. This research employed a qualitative approach based on a phenomenological research design. The informants of this study were Sunday School companions who were directly involved in children’s faith formation activities. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the interest of the companions in serving is driven by a sense of calling to serve, concern for children's faith development, and support from the church environment. In addition, Sunday School is interpreted as a means of faith formation and character building for children through a learning process that is flexible, participatory, and contextual as a practice of nonformal education.

Abstract

This study was carried out based on the observation that students at Madrasah Diniyah Awaliyah (MDA) Al-Ikhlas tend to show low engagement in learning activities, which is assumed to be related to the mismatch between the learning materials and their actual needs. The research aimed to explore the appropriateness of the learning materials, examine students’ level of learning interest, and analyze the relationship between these two aspects using a quantitative correlational approach. From a total population of 45 students, 25 were selected as respondents through simple random sampling, with data collected using questionnaires and analyzed through percentage techniques and Spearman Rank Order correlation. The findings revealed that both the relevance of the learning materials and students’ learning interest were still in the low category, and a significant relationship was identified between the two variables, indicating that better alignment of learning materials with students’ needs and real-life experiences can help increase their participation and engagement in the learning process.
