Abstract

Abstract The nature of entrepreneurship for youth is basically identical with the one that has been widely practiced by the adults. Extent literatures suggest that the concept of youth entrepreneurship lies in the social benefit of wealth creation through the application of innovative thinking and execution to meet customer needs, using one’s own labour, time and ideas. Several factors such as age, level of maturity and intellectual differentiation are also considered to differentiate the entrepreneurship pattern in between youth and adult entrepreneurs. Thus, two major points need to be taken into further consideration: how the entrepreneurship is taught and how it is learned. These initiatives will project significant contributions for the youth, not only providing them with sufficient knowledge and skills toward becoming the next world class business actors but also embedding them with moral and business ethics values in the establishment of the natural ethical entrepreneurs. Keywords: Business Ethics, Social Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship Education, Ethical Entrepreneurs

Abstract

AbstractOilpalmis one of important export commodities performing as the country’s main foreign exchange from the trade of crops.Nitrogen is a limiting factor of plant growth. This study aims to determine: 1) the appropriate dose of absorption of nitrogen and growth in some high yielding varieties of oil palm; 2) the superior varieties of oil palm crops that provide no effect from the nitrogen nutrients and; 3) the interaction between varieties and nitrogen fertilizer on nitrogen nutrient absorption efficiency. This research was conducted in Palm Oil Research Centre at the District of Deli Serdang, the Province of North Sumatra. The research used Factorial Random Block Design with 2 factors. The first factor is varieties (Avros 540, PPKS 239, Simalungun, Langkat and 718PPKS). The second factor is N fertilizer which consists of without N fertilizer, 25% fertilizer recommendation, 50% fertilizer recommendation, 75% fertilizer recommendation and 100% fertilizer recommendation. The results showed that the varieties of oil palm used have different characteristics on plant height, stem diameter and number of leaves. The Simalungun variety was the best variety and its combination with 100% recommendation N was the best result in increasing plant heightof oil palm. Meanwhile the combination with 50% recommendation N was the best result in increasing stem diameter and number of leavesof oil palm. Keywords: oilpalm, nitrogen fertilizer, variety

Abstract

AbstractOryctes rhinoceros L. has symbioses with micro organisms in their hind guts which further break down plant material consumed by beetle. The aim of this research is to determine the identification of the existence of the bacterial species in the hind gut larvae of the symbiotic bacteria using biochemical test and analysis based on 16S rRNA. The result of this research indicate that there were two different bacterials: Bacillus siamensis and Bacillus stratosphericus found. The bacteria was used for starting the composting and more specifically, the Bacillus siamensis can speed up composting with the end result at C/N 13.16.Keywords: Larvae O. rhinoceros L, Bacterial Symbionts, 16S rDNA, Composting

Abstract

AbstractThis study was Carried out to analyze the effects of multicultural competence models consisting of understanding, attitude and individual skill on the performance of government apparatus. The study applied a survey method with the survey subject of regent and municipal Civil Servants of Lampung Province. Samples determination was based on a purposive sampling technique. The study collected 127 respondents. Analysis on the Data used a Structural Equation Model (SEM) operated under AMOS application program. This empirical result proved a direct effect on understanding between attitude; attitude on skills; and skills on the performance of the government apparatus. The Study Also Showed an attitude and skills as mediation between understanding the indirect effect on the performance of the government apparatus. However, the direct effect on understanding between skills and attitudes on performance was insignificant. Finally, this result implies that multicultural understanding alone is not sufficient to Determine the performance of government apparatus, but it takes attitude and skills to respond in different cultural Contexts. Reviews these results might be used to develop a unified theory effects on multicultural competence. Keywords: competence, multicultural, performance.

Abstract

AbstractMetarhizium anisopliae is an important entomopathogenic fungus that mainly used for biological control. Isolates of M. anisopliae extracted from soil from 15 oil palm plantations located in several districts on the Province of North Sumatra, Indonesia have been investigated to identify their morphological diversity. The morphology of assessed fungi was constructed in the the form of conidia, conidia size, color and shape colony and growth diameter of the 15 isolates. All of conidia forms showed cylindrical shape and string together. The length/width (μm) ratio of conidia size was minimum 2,16 and maximum 3,54. The highest growth rate isolates were found in M3 (Bandar Selamat) and M12 (Mancang) treatment and the lowest rate was M11 (Teluk Parit Kaca) treatment. The color of colonies were varied among the isolates. They were greenish yellow, dark green, yellowish and showing zonation/no zonation. Keywords : Metarhizium anisopliae, biological character, morphological diversity

Abstract

AbstractSoybean is useful for tofu, tempe, soy sauce and soy milk. The effective use of fertilizer and organic application can increase soybean productivity. The objective of this research was to study the growth and yield of various soybean varieties on application of phospate fertilizer and organic matter. This research was conducted in North Binjai and Research and Technology Laboratory Agriculture Faculty Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan on May-September 2016. The method used Randomized Block Design with 3 factors. The first factor is soybean varieties consisting of: (Argomulyo, Dering, Dena, Kaba, Gema, Grobogan and Wilis), fertilization of phosphate (control and 150 kg/ha) and organic material application (control, Blotong 10 ton/ha and POEFBC/Palm Oil Empty Fruit Bunches Compost 10 ton / Ha). The results of this research showed that the seven varieties of soybean had characteristic differences on shoot dry weight, age of flowering, age of harvest, phospate uptake and dry weight of 100 seed. The longest flowering and harvesting age is obtained in Wilis, while the shortest age is Grobogan. The highest uptake of P in Argomulyo with treatment without organic matter and phospate fertilizer. Kaba variety with blotong treatment has the highest dry seed weight. Keywords : Organic Matter, Phosphate Fertilizer, Soybean Varieties

Abstract

AbstractAlthough the developments of technology has been grown rapidly, some farmers in North Sumatra are still trapped in traditional farming methods. The problem of limited funds has always been a classical reason for explaining the stagnancy. Interestingly, the farmer community of Hamparan Perak, North Sumatra, which is a partner of LPM UNIMED, actually has advanced knowledge in the management of horticultural crops. Simple innovation seem to be able to drive farm productivity and efficiency. The general purpose of this community service activity is to implement the drip-water irrigation system at Agro-Holticulture plantation of Hamparan Perak Farmer Community in Hamparan Perak, Deli Serdang, North Sumatera. In particular, this community service aims to: 1) improving the efficiency of agricultural production with the implementation of such technology; and 2) increasing farm productivity with improved irrigation system. This Community Service Activities using technical guidance methods to farmer community. Furthermore, efficiency and productivity are met through minimizing costs and increasing farmer income which observed during technical guidance. Based on ongoing observations, farmers acknowledge that the process of agricultural production becomes very efficient while the performance of the crops becomes more productive. Keywords: Farmers, Horticulture, Efficiency, Productivity
