Abstract

This study examines the representation of family conflict in Teka-teki Rumah Aneh (Henna Ie) by Uketsu. Unlike previous studies that emphasize psychological conflict, this research focuses on how conflict is constructed as a generational power relation and materialized through domestic spatial configuration. The study aims to analyze how power operates within parent–child relations by integrating the sociology of literature, symbol theory and spatial studies. This research employs a Qualitative Textual Analysis of Narrative Descriptions, spatial configurations, and genealogical discourse in the novel. The findings reveal that family conflict is not primarily expressed through explicit dialogue, but through structural mechanisms such as spatial isolation, control of visibility, genealogical exclusion, and succession pressure. The house plan functions as an ideological device that regulates mobility, determines visibility, and reproduces generational hierarchy. Elements such as windowless rooms, concealed spaces, and inherited architectural design demonstrate how domestic space operates as a medium of control and exclusion. The novelty of this study lies in conceptualizing domestic space as a narrative mechanism that materializes structural family conflict. Theoretically, this study proposes the notion of “spatialized generational power relations,” highlighting how architecture in contemporary Japanese literature serves as a site where traditional genealogical norms and individual autonomy are continuously negotiated. Keywords - Domestic Space, Family Conflict, Generational Power Relations, Ie System, Spatial Narrative.

Abstract

This study focuses on students’ perceptions of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in a fifth-grade classroom. This research applies a qualitative case study design involving 28 fifth-grade students from a Cambridge curriculum school who had direct experience with EMI in their daily learning activities. Data were collected by semi-structured focus group interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. The findings suggest that most students view EMI positively because of their familiarity and exposure to English, but these perceptions are not always stable, as some students still experience difficulties when dealing with unfamiliar vocabulary or complex tasks. The study reveals that students’ perceptions are not limited to positive and negative categories, but also include conditional responses, where perceptions depend on subject matter, classroom activities, and emotional conditions. The findings also identified several factors, including vocabulary mastery, classroom interaction, teacher-related factors, emotional conditions, and language exposure. This study contributes to existing EMI research by showing that elementary students’ perceptions are not limited to positive and negative categories, but may also be conditional and context dependent. Keywords - Elementary School, English as a Medium of Instruction, Student’s Perceptions.

Abstract

The Israel–Palestine conflict is one of the world’s longest-running disputes and has escalated again following Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023. Beyond the military arena, this conflict also raises issues of freedom of expression and the silencing of Palestinian writers internationally. This study employs a qualitative-descriptive approach to examine Palestinian literature as a space for articulating identity, resistance, and collective memory amid the Israel–Palestine conflict. This method enables the researcher to deeply interpret the social, political, and cultural dynamics reflected in literary texts and practices, as well as to trace systematic efforts to silence and marginalize Palestinian narratives on the global stage. The study analyzes three cancellation cases that represent patterns of silencing Palestinian narratives in cultural and academic spheres: Adania Shibli at the Frankfurt Book Fair (2023), Mohammed El-Kurd’s lecture at the University of Vermont (2023), and Randa Abdel-Fattah’s invitation at Adelaide Writers’ Week (2026). Three main silencing patterns are identified: legitimizing censorship for security reasons, political dominance in cultural/academic institutions, and transnational solidarity as a form of resistance. These practices reveal the vulnerability of the Palestinian narrative within global structures, yet also trigger collective resistance and international solidarity. Keywords - Israel-Palestine Conflict, Palestinian Voice, Palestinian Writers.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the widespread decline in morals and identity crises among the younger generation due to the negative impacts of the digital era and global culture. As an effort to revitalize Islamic ethics based on local wisdom, this study aims to reconstruct the concept of morals toward oneself across the manuscript trilogy by KH. Bisri Mustofa Rembang (Ngudi Susilo, Mitra Sejati, and Washoya al Aba’ lil Abna’). This library research applies a philological approach to examine the texts and intertextual analysis to connect their core messages. Data were gathered through close reading and analyzed using content analysis combined with interpretative hermeneutics. The results show that KH. Bisri Mustofa's personal ethical system beautifully balances physical maintenance (outer discipline) and spiritual purification (inner purity). This concept manifests in four daily dimensions: health care, holistic cleanliness, physical grooming, and modest, polite attire. In the modern era, this concept transforms into a practical guide for thrifty financial management and a wise moral filter to navigate technological advancement without losing religious devotion. This classic pesantren trilogy remains highly relevant as a moral compass for the younger generation in the digital era. Keywords - Digital Disruption, KH. Abstract

The phenomenon of children killing their parents, commonly referred to as parricide, has been increasingly documented in Indonesia since 2016. While most previous studies have examined parricide retrospectively after the crime has occurred, this study focuses on the pre-criminal stage by mapping the literature to understand how family communication patterns within authoritarian parenting may contribute to the emergence of parricidal ideation. A scoping review approach was employed using a four-stage methodological framework strengthened by the JBI guidelines, resulting in the analysis of 28 relevant articles. The review identified four key findings. First, authoritarian parenting consistently fosters a protective communication pattern characterized by enforced obedience, suppression of children’s voices, and limited opportunities to question parental authority. Second, adolescents may develop negative self-perceptions through symbolic identities formed in the family environment, where repeated demeaning communication erodes self-concept and may become a psychological threat. Third, accumulated emotional pressure can develop into ideation of extreme violence, including thoughts of killing one’s parents. Fourth, densely populated residential environments may exacerbate family dysfunction by reinforcing parental authority and limiting adolescents’ opportunities to escape ongoing conflicts, thereby worsening their psychological well-being. These findings provide important insights for the development of child protection policies and family communication intervention programs, particularly in densely populated communities in Indonesia. Keywords - Authoritarian Parenting, Densely Area, Parricide Ideation, Protective Family Communication.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the experiences of prisoners' wives in maintaining marital bonds amidst the imprisonment of their spouses. The study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 10 prisoners' wives, then analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The research findings indicate that wives' decisions to maintain their marriages are influenced by a number of psychological factors, including responsibility for children, emotional attachment, moral values, and an assessment of the balance between sacrifice and emotional benefits in the relationship. The physical absence of the husband during imprisonment makes the wife a primary factor in maintaining family stability while meeting the emotional needs of the children. The results confirm that marital continuity does not reflect a passive attitude, but rather a psychological strategy shaped by emotional regulation, social support, and humanitarian values. These findings are expected to contribute to the development of psychosocial interventions to strengthen family resilience in the context of imprisonment. Keywords – Convict’s wife, Imprisonment, Marital Resilience, Phenomenology.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has exacerbated various mental health challenges for generation Z, including stress, anxiety, academic pressure, and uncertainty about the future. Amidst these conditions, spirituality is viewed as a psychological resource that helps individuals derive meaning from life experiences and strengthens their resilience. This study aims to analyze the role of spirituality in maintaining the mental health of generation Z from the perspective of the psychology of religion, specifically within the context of coffee shop patrons in Surabaya. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed, utilizing data collection methods such as in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results indicate that spirituality enables generation Z to develop religious coping mechanisms through three primary forms: personal worship practices, self-reflection, and the search for life's meaning. These forms contribute to reduced anxiety, improved emotional regulation, and the development of psychological resilience when facing academic or social pressures. The study’s novelty lies in its analysis of Generation Z's spiritual experiences within a non-formal social setting the (coffee shop) as a context for the formation of religious coping. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for developing mental health services that integrate psychological and spiritual approaches tailored to the characteristics of Generation Z.Keywords - Coping Mechanisms, Generation Z, Mental Health, Psychology of Religion, Spirituality

Abstract

IPAS instruction in the Merdeka Curriculum emphasizes the scientific process through hands on learning experiences, one of which is through laboratory activities. Observations at MIS Gapuro indicate that students in Class 5-A have studied the theory of light but have never conducted a laboratory experiment. This study aims to describe the implementation of the light laboratory experiment in IPAS instruction, students’ understanding of the concept of light after the experiment, as well as the factors supporting and hindering its implementation. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a sample of 28 fifth-grade students from Class V-A at MIS Gapuro. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and Student Worksheets (LKPD), then analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion-drawing techniques. The results showed that the laboratory experiment was conducted through material presentation, group division, conducting experiments using simple tools and materials, and completing the Student Worksheets. Laboratory experiments help students understand the properties of light—namely, that light travels in a straight line, is reflected, and is refracted—based on direct observations. Supporting factors include student enthusiasm, the use of simple tools and materials, and worksheets, while inhibiting factors include time constraints, technical issues with learning media, and group dynamics. This study shows that simple laboratory experiments can support more meaningful science learning through direct scientific experiences. Keywords - Conceptual Understanding, Elementary School, IPAS Learning, Light Lab, Merdeka Curriculum

Abstract

Digital technology integration has transformed the professional practices of school counselors. However, studies exploring how counselors experience this adaptation, particularly in regions with limited technological infrastructure, remain scarce. This study explores the lived experiences of school counselors in adapting to digital technology integration in secondary school counseling services. A qualitative approach using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was employed through semi-structured interviews with school counselors from three secondary schools in Kerinci Regency and Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province, Indonesia. Data were analyzed following the six stages of IPA. Four themes emerged: (1) the transition from conventional counseling to blended counseling; (2) self-directed learning as the primary strategy for developing digital competence; (3) structural barriers, including limited infrastructure, facilities, and institutional support; and (4) ethical dilemmas concerning client confidentiality and professional boundaries in digital communication. The findings identify adaptive resilience without institutional scaffolding, describing school counselors' capacity to adapt independently despite limited systemic support. This concept extends existing digital counseling models by emphasizing adaptive resilience beyond technology readiness. Successful technology integration requires the synergy of individual competence, continuous professional development, institutional support, and contextually appropriate digital counseling ethics. Keywords - Digital Counselling, Digital Ethics, Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, Professional Adaptation, School Counsellor.
