Jurnal AL - AZHAR SERI HUMANIORA merupakan jurnal ilmiah yang memuat makalah dan artikel hasil penelitian atau kajian teoristis dalam bidang Humaniora. Kata Al-Azhar berakar dari z-h-r. Verba zahara bermakna to shine, give light, be radiant, to glow, gleam, glare, shine, to blossom, be in bloom (Wehr, 1974:384). Dengan demikian kata Al-Azhar berarti sesuatu yang bersinar, yang memberi cahaya, yang berseri-seri atau yang mekar. Abstract

In oral societies, the tradition of story telling has never truly disappeared. In modern times, folktales can be presented in the form of short stories. As a genre of prose, short stories possess their own distinct characteristics. Moreover, they often embed historical narratives, adventure tales, and heroic stories, which are typically presented through various engaging plot structures. One example of an Arabic short story rich in folktale elements is "Lu’lu’atu ash-Shabāḥi" by Kamil Kailani. This study aims to uncover the narrative functions in the short story to illustrate the pattern of the protagonist’s journey, using Vladimir Propp’s narrative approach. This research employs a Descriptive Qualitative Method. Data collection was carried out through reading, translating, and note-taking techniques. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman’s method, which includes identifying findings and marking them according to Propp’s narrative functions. The findings are then described by linking the story’s context or plot to the theoretical framework. The results show that 16 out of the 31 narrative functions proposed by Vladimir Propp are present in the story. These 16 functions include Initial Situation (α), Absentation (β), Interdiction (γ), Violation (δ), Mediation (B), Counter-Action (C), Trickery (η), Complicity (θ), Villany (A), Departure (↑), Guidance (G), Victory (J), Solution (N), Difficult Task (M), Return (K), and Recognition (R).Keywords - Arabic Short Story, Narrative Functions, Narrative Structuralism, Vladimir Propp.

Abstract

Backronyms play an important role in branding by creating taglines that strengthen brand identity and build emotional connections, supporting effective marketing strategies. For universities as socialpreneurship or edupreneurship entities, the use of backronyms can enhance visibility and attract prospective students, helping to achieve long-term goals. This study analyzes the backronyms "SMILE" and "UNGGUL" from University Al-Azhar of Indonesia to evaluate their structural and semantic coherence. Using a qualitative approach, it was found that the "SMILE" backronym exhibits inconsistency between adjectival and nominal word classes, which disrupts both cohesion and overall meaning. Meanwhile, the "UNGGUL" backronym presents a more complex misalignment, involving verbs, nouns, and adjectives, leading to morphological and semantic discord as well as logical flaws. The conclusion of this study is that the inconsistency in word class usage and the illogical semantic connections diminish the communicative effectiveness of the backronyms, suggesting the need for improvements in backronym construction to enhance clarity and appeal in the university's branding strategy.Keywords - Backronym, Morphological Analysis, Semantic Consistency, Tagline.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the symbolic elements (signifier and signified) in Nizar Qabbani's poem "Risalah Min Taht Al-Maa" using Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic theory. The poem is rich in emotional depth and symbolic imagery, making it a fertile ground for semiotic analysis. Through a qualitative descriptive method, the researchers analyze how linguistic signs in the poem reflect deep emotional struggles, especially those related to love, pain, and psychological turmoil. The study finds that Qabbani's poetic expressions represent a symbolic system where every line contains signifiers that point to hidden and layered meanings (signifieds), highlighting the poet’s emotional state. Abstract

Adaptation from novel to film has become one of the most striking trends in the entertainment industry, so that many films can be found that are sourced from novels, one of which is the film Lust, Caution. This study discusses the ecranization of the novel and film Lust, Caution by Eileen Chang and directed by Ang Lee which aims to analyze the differences in the storyline, characters, and time and place settings contained in the novel and film Lust, Caution such as the possibility of shrinking, adding and varying changes that occur. The research method used is the descriptive analysis method. The data collection techniques used are the observation and note-taking techniques and literature studies. The data sources used are the English version of the novel Lust, Caution by Eileen Chang and the film Lust, Caution directed by Ang Lee. The results of the study show that the ecranization process occurs because of differences in imagination between the novelist and the director, as well as the adjustment of the two work mediums from words to moving images. Even so, this ecranization process does not change the outline of the story. The ecranization in this film also shows changes between the content of the novel and the content of the film, this was done to provide a new interpretation of the original work.Keywords – Ecranzation, Film, Lust Caution, Novel.

Abstract

The ability to recite the Quran is a fundamental skill that is required to be mastered by every Muslim. However, there are still many university students whose Quran reading literacy is still very low. This study aims to analyze the Quran reading literacy among University Al-Azhar Indonesia (UAI) students, which indirectly also reflects the Quran reading literacy levels of urban students in the capital city of Jakarta. This research uses mixed method with a descriptive approach, as it is a field study aimed at exploring phenomena in the field through Quran reading tests. The population and sample consist of 693 undergraduate students from 19 study programs at UAI class of 2022-2023. The test results on 693 students showed that 14.43% (approximately 100 students) are categorize as unable to read the Quran. Meanwhile 85.57% (593 students) are categorized as able to read the Quran, although 19.89% of them achieved low scores. The findings indicate that the Quran reading literacy level among urban students at UAI remains relatively low. This is attributed to several factors, including internal factors such as discontinuing Quran learning after graduating from elementary or entering middle school, and external factors such as family and environmental influences.Keywords – Alquran, Literacy, Reading Ability, Urban Students.

Abstract

The novel Sayyidat al-Qamar by Jokha Alharthi represents modern Arabic literature that captures the historical reality of Oman, particularly the issues of slavery, limited access to education for women, and marriage traditions rooted in patriarchal values. This study aims to examine humanitarian facts, encompassing both individual and social dimensions, through Lucien Goldmann’s genetic structuralism approach. A Descriptive Qualitative Method was employed, using thematic classification of selected excerpts that depict inner conflicts and social contexts, with close reading and note-taking as the primary data collection techniques. The findings reveal that the novel’s social realities shape how the characters think, act, and respond to their surroundings. The individual facts emerge through characters’ emotional struggles and inner conflicts, while the social facts are reflected in the portrayal of slavery, educational inequality, and restrictive marriage practices in pre-reform Oman. Therefore, Sayyidat al-Qamar serves not only as a literary work but also as a reflective medium that highlights the dialectical relationship between social structure, history and individual consciousness within modern Arab society.Keywords - Arabic Novel, Genetic Structuralism, Human Facts.

Abstract

This article explores the integration of environmental education and local wisdom into elementary school learning to foster global awareness and cultural appreciation from an early age, particularly within the context of digital advancement in the Society 5.0 era. The study employs a qualitative analytical method with a conceptual approach, based on scientific articles published over the past ten years (2015-2025). Data analysis was conducted through data selection, thematic categorization, and descriptive-qualitative interpretation to examine the relationship between theory and real educational practices in the context of elementary education in Society 5.0. The findings indicate that environmental education and local wisdom play a significant role in shaping students' character at the primary level, especially amid rapid technological development. These values can be effectively integrated through thematic-contextual learning approaches aligned with students’ developmental stages and curriculum content. Teachers hold a strategic role in designing and implementing meaningful learning, serving as facilitators, character builders, and instructional innovators. The article concludes that integrating environmental and cultural values into elementary school learning is a relevant strategy to cultivate global consciousness and cultural identity from an early age.Keywords - Environmental Education, Local Wisdom, Elementary School, Society 5.0, Global and Cultural Awareness.

Abstract

Inclusive education not only guarantees access to learning for all children, but also becomes a strategic place to build moral values in diversity. A learning environment that combines regular and special needs students creates space for the growth of empathy, tolerance and mutual respect. This article aims to analyze the role of inclusive education in shaping students' morality and examine the challenges and strategies for its implementation in elementary schools. This study uses a literature study method by reviewing various literature, scientific articles, and related research results. The data analysis technique used is content analysis, which is carried out repeatedly to ensure accurate understanding and avoid misinformation. The results of the study show that inclusive education has a positive contribution to the formation of students' morals, but its implementation still faces obstacles such as limited teacher competence, minimal facilities, and an inflexible curriculum. To overcome this, strategies are needed in the form of teacher training, provision of appropriate educators, adaptation of learning methods, and support from families. With comprehensive support, inclusive education can be an effective means of shaping children's character and morality from an early age.Keywords - Elementary School, Inclusive Education, Morals.

Abstract

It is well known that the issue of teaching Arabic language remains essential, not only for non-native speakers but also for native speakers' children alike. As for grammar, it is more challenging to teach and comprehend due to its numerous rules interconnected with each other. Students often claim difficulty in understanding these complex rules, exacerbated by teachers' inadequate application of effective teaching methods. This research aims to explore the teaching of grammar rules, discussing the problems encountered by students in learning them and suggesting solutions, alongside a concise explanation of the essence of grammar education. This study is a qualitative conceptual research using a structural educational approach and based on library research. The data consist of classical and modern grammar books, teaching materials, and academic articles. Findings indicate that students’ aversion to Arabic grammar stems from multiple factors, including the abstract nature of grammar, inconsistent pedagogical strategies, the rigidity of traditional textbooks, and limited contextualization of grammatical examples. The proposed solution for both students and teachers involves increasing practice, clarifying and simplifying grammar, among other strategies. Keywords – Arabic, Problems, Solution, Teaching.

Abstract
