Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has experienced exponential development in recent years. ChatGPT developed by OpenAI has succeeded in providing an important benchmark in language development models that are able to understand how humans think. With users reaching 100 million worldwide, chatGPT is considered capable of answering society's current needs for fast and accurate information. It is interesting to examine how linguistic variations include input from users and the feedback given. This research uses a case study method by entering linguistic variations as text input and looking at linguistic aspects of GPT chat responses. The research results show that overall, chatGPT is very dependent on user text input in providing feedback, the more complete the commands and information entered, the more specific the response given by chatGPT. Another finding was that chatGPT was able to produce responses with diction choices with academic and informative nuances, but on the other hand there was minimal variation in synonyms; and be able to understand and apply Indonesian language rules well and correctly in the resulting text

Abstract

Multidimensional or often referred to as the vast and countless universe (multiverse) is currently a hot issue in modern society and many people believe that the existence of this diverse universe is real. The representation of the existence of this diverse universe has been shown in the television series which is an adaptation of the comic series titled ‘Loki’, then a collection of fairy tales traveling to a fantasy world titled ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ which in the big screen version consists of three main series namely The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of The Dawn Treader, then a novel titled ‘Dark Matter’ and a film entitled ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once'. These works of fiction are similar to the concept of emphasizing the process of transformation from the real world as it is today and then moving to other universes in the story. The main character in the story experiences a multi-dimensional journey that is difficult to explain logically. This study uses qualitative descriptive methods using a comparative literary approach combined with semiotic theory and the concept of equilibrium in narrative theory to dissect and analyze the hidden meanings that appear in these works of fiction. The results obtained from this study are that the idea of multi-dimensional life, multi-universes and parallel universes has become a very popular thing in various works of modern fiction. The superiority of storytelling techniques like this gives the author freedom and flexibility in creating a work, and the idea of storytelling like this will trigger tremendous curiosity for the reader or audience.

Abstract

This study explores the ideological conflict within intercultural marriages as portrayed in Mario Puzo’s renowned novel, “The Godfather”. Utilizing a qualitative approach and Althusser’s theory of Ideological State Apparatuses (ISAs), the researchers delve into Puzo’s intricately woven narrative, highlighting the inherent tension arising from the collision of different values, traditions, and beliefs. The main focus is on the discord experienced by characters from diverse cultural backgrounds. In line with the ideological framework, this study found that a dominant ideology often subjugates other beliefs. Through comprehensive analysis, the researchers discovered that these conflicting beliefs significantly shape the characters’ societal perspectives. This research provides valuable insights into intercultural marriages, emphasizing the universal challenges presented in the novel that stem from negotiating differing beliefs within family and society.

Abstract

Based on observations in several schools, speaking skills are considered more difficult for students to master than other passive English skills (reading and writing). Public speaking as the ability to speak well in public for students is less than optimal. Students often experience difficulties due to lack of preparation so they are not confident when doing public speaking. Another cause is excessive anxiety so that the presentation they make does not match expectations. There are several methods and techniques that can be used in making presentations or public speaking so that the presenter can produce a good performance and the material presented can be accepted by the audience, one of which is chunking and pausing techniques. This research aims to determine the effect of using Chunking and Pausing techniques on English Speech Fluency abilities for high school students in Semarang Regency area. From the results of this activity, it was found that there was a significant change in the students' speech fluency before and after being given chunking and pausing technique material, namely an increase in the fluency aspect of 2.6, the pronunciation and accent aspect of 1.3. , the vocabulary mastery aspect is 1.4, the grammar aspect is 0.4, and the details aspect is 1.3. Abstract

This research explores the portrayal of racial discrimination in Alice Childress’ 1962 play, “Wedding Band: A Love/Hate Story in Black and White.” The story takes place in the segregated South Carolina in the World War I. This research utilizes the sociocultural-historical approach by examining the ways Julia Agustine, the main character of the play, experiences and responds to racial discrimination. The analysis identifies specific racial discrimination Julia faces. The racial discrimination Julia faces can be seen in the form of racial prejudice in the form of refusal of physical contact and helpful gestures based on racial stereotypes; unwanted sexual harassment from a white male character; and the prohibition of interracial marriage with her white boyfriend Herman. Furthermore, the study examines Julia’s responses to these challenges. Drawing on her qualities of courage, faith, perseverance, and intelligence, Julia shows resistance through anger, confrontation, and refusal of those who mistreat her. By analyzing Julia’s journey, this study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex nature of racial discrimination and the resilience required to navigate through it.

Abstract

This research examines the impact and the consequences of the protagonist's inner conflict in John Boyne's The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas through Karen Horney's theory of inner conflict and neuroticism. The research investigates how Bruno, the novel protagonist, deals with the impact and the consequences of his inner conflict on the storyline. The research explores how environmental changes significantly affect Bruno's development, identity, and interactions in the narrative. The problem begins with Bruno's move from Berlin to Out-With, a concentration camp for Nazi prisoners. Bruno sees firsthand the horrific environment, torture, and injustice of the new place. Each storyline has conflicts and obstacles that make Bruno's inner conflict worse. This research uses qualitative analysis, which is expected to produce an understanding of protagonist development when dealing with the impact of inner conflict on children in a social context. The impact of Bruno's inner conflict is significant, affecting various aspects of his life and actions, causing unhappiness and oppression. Bruno felt deeply unhappy and depressed, experiencing isolation and an inability to express his feelings, which often led to feelings of loneliness and alienation. This research aims to explore the impact of inner conflict on the psychological and social development of children, particularly in the context of historical trauma such as the Holocaust. The novel serves as a vehicle to discuss the effects of witnessing violence and trauma on children, which is a significant issue in psychology and child development studies. The protagonist, Bruno, experiences a range of emotions and behaviours as a result of his exposure to the harsh realities of a concentration camp, which reflects broader concerns about how such environments can affect a child's mental health and identity formation. This research also appears to be motivated by the desire to understand how individuals, especially children, cope with and are affected by their surroundings, particularly in extreme or adverse conditions.
