Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic requires every exposed community to selfisolate, including nursing students. When required to self-isolate, nursing students have many stressors that affect their self-confidence (Self Efficacy). Objective to explore the self-efficacy experience of nursing students at X University during the self-isolation process. Using a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach as many as six participants with the snowball sampling method. Collecting data using a semi-structured interview method for 10-20 minutes using thematic analysis. There were four themes identified from the thematic analysis, namely (1) exposure to Corona Virus Disease (Covid-19) which explained how participants were exposed to Covid-19, when participants were Covid-19, and the signs and symptoms that participants felt; (2) self efficacy enhancement strategies in the form of fulfilling basic needs, fulfilling information needs, and coping mechanisms; (3) self efficacy factors, namely the support of the surrounding environment, expectations, motivation, and level of knowledge; and (4) Barriers to increasing self efficacy in the form of changes in physical condition, stress load, and interaction and communication. The description of the experience of nursing students' beliefs when doing independent isolation is influenced by several aspects including exposure to Covid-19, improvement strategies, self efficacy, self efficacy factors, and barriers to increasing self efficacy.

Abstract

Flavonoids are chemical compounds derived from plants which are a group of secondary metabolites. Flavonoids Flavonoid compounds are polyphenolic compounds that have 15 carbon atoms arranged in a C 6 -C 3 -C 6 configuration, namely two aromatic rings connected by 3 carbon atoms that can or cannot form a third ring. Flavonoids are widely distributed in angiosperms, gymnosperms, and pteridopites. These flavonoids provide physiological and pharmacological effects on living things. The purpose of this study was to identify the flavonoid compounds present in the leaf extract of the blood sambang plant (Excoecaria cochinchinensis L). In this study, a multilevel maceration extraction was used using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol solvents and then the filtrate was evaporated using an evaporator. Positive phytochemical screening results indicated the presence of flavonoids in methanol extract and negative in n-hexane and ethyl acetate extracts. From the methanol extract, TLC was carried out with an eluent ratio of methanol ethyl acetate (8: 2), it was obtained the separation of two stains where one of the stains had the same Rf value as the Rf value of flavonoids, then performed a UV-Vis spectrophotometric analysis resulting in three absorption wavelengths, namely band I (350 nm) and band II (255 nm and 267 nm). the spectrum obtained is a class of flavone compounds.

Abstract

Endophytic fungi live in mutualistic symbiosis and can produce secondary metabolites similar to their host. This research aims to isolate, characterize, and test the antioxidant activity of secondary metabolites from turmeric stems. This research is experimental research where the method used for endophytic fungi isolation is the direct planting method, and antioxidant activity is tested using qualitative and quantitative methods with DPPH (1.1-diphenyl-2-picylhydrazyl). One fungal isolate was obtained with the fungal isolate code (BK). Based on macroscopic and microscopic characterization, the BK fungal isolate indicates the Deuteromycota class's characteristics. The qualitative antioxidant test results indicate that the fraction of BK endophytic fungal isolate indicates antioxidant activity, indicated by the yellow color against a purple background on the TLC plate observed under visible light. The respective ICso values for the ethyl acetate and n-hexane fractions were 52.989 µg/ml and 89.725 µg/ml, categorized as strong antioxidants. The methanol fraction had an ICso value of 119.02 µg/ml, categorized as moderate, while the pure supernatant fraction had an ICso value of 156.86 µg/ml, categorized as weak antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme or natural protease found in tissues, including the stem, fruit, and leaves of pineapple (Ananas comosus var. comosus) and other plant species of the Bromeliaceae family. Bromelain is known as an efficient debdriding agent because it is beneficial in  burn healing and tissue regeneration. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of bromelain enzyme for burns wounds in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus). This research began with the optimization of carbopol 940 base preparations with variations in concentration, namely Formula 1 (F1) for 0,5%, Formula 2 (F2) for 1%, and Formula 3 (F3) for 1,5%. The evaluation of the gel formulation includes an organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity test, adhesive force test, and spreadability test. The evaluation result indicates the base concentration in Formula 1 (F1) at 0,5% has met the requirements for a gel preparation. Formula 1 (F1) for 0,5, then combined with varying concentration of bromelain, namely Formula 1A (0,1%), Formula 1B (0,5%), and Formula 1C (1%). The gel formulation wa re-evaluated, including an organoleptic test, homogeneity test, pH test, viscosity test, adhesion test, spreadability test, irritation test, and in vivo test. In vivo effectiveness testing and irritation testing were conducted on five treatment groups, namely a positive control group (Bioplacenton®), Formula 1A (0,1%), Formula 1B (0,5%), Formula 1C (1%), and a group without treatment, then observed for 15 days. The observation data were processed using the One Way ANOVA test. Based on the results of the irritation test, Formula 1A (0,1%). Formula 1B (0,5%) and Formula 1C (1%) did not cause skin irritation. In the in vivo test, Formula 1C (1%) indicated the fastest recovery compared to other treatment groups, as evidenced by the decrease in wound diameter and visual observation, where the wound had started to close completely on day 15 of observation.
