Abstract

Environmental pollution is one of the science topics that requires students to possess a strong conceptual understanding to comprehend the relationships between environmental phenomena and their impacts. However, students’ conceptual understanding remains relatively low due to teacher-centered learning practices. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create (RADEC) learning model in improving fourth-grade students’ conceptual understanding of environmental pollution. The study employed a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design involving 60 fourth-grade students divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments measuring students’ conceptual understanding. The data were analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, independent sample t-tests, paired sample t-tests, and N-gain analysis. The results showed a significant difference between the experimental and control classes, with a significance value of 0.008 (< 0.05). Furthermore, the paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant improvement in students’ conceptual understanding after the implementation of the RADEC model. The N-gain analysis revealed an average gain score of 70.00% in the experimental class, which was higher than that of the control class (40.37%). These findings indicate that the RADEC learning model is effective in enhancing fourth-grade students’ conceptual understanding of environmental pollution.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited availablity of learning media capable of concretely visualizing IPAS material, causing students to struggle with understanding abstract concepts. The study aims to develop an interactive blogspot learning medium using a digital literacy approach and to determine its suitability as an IPAS learning medium at MIN 4 Jombang. This study employed the research and development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The results indicate that the learning medium received a validation parcentage of 90% from media experts, 92% form content experts and 100% form  instructional experts, with an average suitability rating of 94%, falling into the “highly suitable” category. The small grup pilot test yielded a 90% success rate, while the large grup pilot test yielded an 88,26% success rate, both falling into the “highly suitable” category. Based on these results, the interactive blogspot learning media with a digital literacy approach is deemed highly suitable for use as an IPAS learning medium at MIN 4 Jombang

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low critical thinking skills of fifth-grade students at SDN Ngaringan 03, Blitar Regency, in learning the topic of flora and fauna distribution. Teacher-centered instruction and the limited use of learning media have resulted in students being less active in analyzing and solving problems. This study aimed to develop a Problem-Based Learning (PBL)-based tabletop game, determine its feasibility, and improve students' critical thinking skills. The research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using a modified Borg and Gall model consisting of seven stages: research and information gathering, planning, product development, expert validation, limited field testing, product revision, and field testing. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and critical thinking tests. The results indicated that the PBL-based tabletop game was feasible for classroom use, engaging for students, and effective in enhancing students’ participation and critical thinking skills in learning flora and fauna distribution
