Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the Collaborative Reasoning (CR) strategy, supported by short stories, on the argumentative writing skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. The study was conducted at SDS IT Luqman during the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. A quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group was employed. The participants comprised 38 fifth-grade students selected through purposive sampling, with 19 students assigned to the experimental group and 19 to the control group. Data were collected using an argumentative writing essay test and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics, including an independent samples t-test. The results showed that the experimental group achieved a higher mean score in argumentative writing (M = 74.61) than the control group (M = 61.32). Furthermore, the independent samples t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.004 < 0.05). These findings indicate that the Collaborative Reasoning strategy, supported by short stories, was effective in improving the argumentative writing skills of fifth-grade elementary school students.

Abstract

Learning outcomes in Integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) among fourth-grade elementary school students remain relatively low due to the predominance of teacher-centered instruction and the limited use of innovative learning models. This study aimed to examine the effect of the Reciprocal Teaching learning model on fourth-grade students' learning outcomes in Integrated Science and Social Studies. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method employing a pretest-posttest control group design was used. The study involved 50 fourth-grade students from SD Negeri 040443 Kabanjahe, with 25 students assigned to the experimental group and 25 to the control group. Data were collected using a multiple-choice achievement test and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics, including normality, homogeneity, and independent samples t-tests. The results showed that students in the experimental group achieved higher posttest scores than those in the control group. The independent samples t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between the two groups (t = 11.636, p < 0.001), indicating that the Reciprocal Teaching learning model significantly improved students' learning outcomes in Integrated Science and Social Studies. These findings suggest that Reciprocal Teaching is an effective instructional model for enhancing elementary school students' academic achievement in Integrated Science and Social Studies.

Abstract

A study was conducted on the effectiveness of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach, supported by manipulative media such as cube and rectangular prism nets, on the mathematics learning outcomes of sixth-grade elementary school students. This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of students on the topic of cube and rectangular prism nets, which resulted from teaching that remained teacher-centered and the minimal use of concrete media. This study employed a quantitative approach using a Pre-Experimental Design with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design, involving 22 sixth-grade students at SD Negeri No. 10 Galung. The results showed an increase in the average pretest score from 49.09 to 80.45 on the posttest, a classical mastery rate of 77.3%, a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), and an N-Gain of 0.62, categorized as moderately effective. Additionally, student learning activities reached the active category with an average of 61.18%, and student responses were in the very good category with a percentage of 82.57%. These findings indicate that the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach aided by manipulative media is effective in improving students’ mathematics learning outcomes and creating contextual, concrete, and meaningful learning.

Abstract

Character education is an important aspect in the formation of morals and behavior of students, especially at the elementary school level. However, social developments and environmental changes cause various challenges in the formation of student character so that effective educational strategies are needed, one of which is through the full-day school model. This study aims to analyze the implementation of character education, supporting and inhibiting factors, and the impact of the implementation of the full-day school model on the character formation of third-grade students at SDIT Muhammadiyah Cepiring. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with research subjects including the principal, third-grade teachers, and third-grade students. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis used the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model through data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that character education is implemented through learning, habituation, teacher role models, and Islamic school culture with a focus on religious character, responsibility, cooperation, independence, and discipline. Supporting factors include the commitment of the school community, teacher role models, and habituation programs, while obstacles come from differences in student character, lack of parental synergy, and external environmental influences. The full day school model has a positive impact on the formation of students' character.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the essential competencies students need to face the challenges of 21st-century learning. However, previous studies have indicated that critical thinking skills in basic education still require improvement through appropriate learning models. This study aimed to analyze research trends and the implementation outcomes of the Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create (RADEC) learning model in relation to critical thinking skills in basic education. This study employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method based on the PRISMA guidelines. Data were collected from scientific articles published between 2021 and 2025 and selected according to predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in twelve articles for analysis. The findings revealed that research on the RADEC learning model has continued to grow, focusing on the development of critical thinking skills in basic education. The synthesis results showed that the implementation of the RADEC learning model contributed to improving students’ abilities to analyze information, evaluate problems, solve problems, and communicate arguments through active engagement in the learning process. This study contributes to the literature by providing a comprehensive synthesis of research trends and implementation outcomes of the RADEC learning model as a reference for developing critical thinking-oriented learning in basic education.

Abstract

This research was initiated by the need to strengthen students’ disciplinary character through the establishment of a religious school culture, especially through the regular practice of congregational Dhuhr prayer at the elementary school level. Initial observations conducted at SDN Ledug Kembaran Banyumas showed that the implementation of congregational Dhuhr prayer had not been fully effective. Several obstacles were identified, including students’ lack of punctuality in attending prayer sessions, limited order and discipline during prayer activities, inconsistent participation in congregational worship, and insufficient monitoring from teachers. The purpose of this study was to investigate how students’ disciplinary character was developed through the habituation of congregational Dhuhr prayer, examine the contribution of school culture in supporting this habituation process, and identify the challenges encountered during its implementation. This study adopted a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were obtained through observations, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, sixth-grade classroom teachers, Islamic Religious Education teachers, and sixth-grade students. The collected data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion formulation. The findings demonstrated that the habituation of congregational Dhuhr prayer contributed to strengthening students’ discipline, responsibility, orderliness, and religious values. Furthermore, the school’s religious culture supported this process through teachers’ exemplary behavior, active supervision, and the organization of structured religious programs. Nevertheless, the implementation still faced several challenges, including inadequate worship facilities, limitations in managing instructional time, and a lack of awareness among some students.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the fact that Indonesian language instruction at SDN Keboananom Gedangan is still dominated by conventional methods and makes insufficient use of engaging learning media, resulting in students being less active and experiencing difficulties in identifying moral values in short stories. Therefore, an innovative learning model suited to the characteristics of elementary school students is needed. The Discovery Learning model emphasizes students’ active engagement in independently discovering concepts, while animated story videos help present material visually and audibly to make it easier to understand. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of using the Discovery Learning model supported by animated story videos on fifth-grade elementary students’ ability to identify moral values in short stories. This study employs a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design and a Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. The study population consists of all fifth-grade students at SDN Keboananom Gedangan, with a purposive sampling technique. Data collection utilized a test, while data analysis included normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing using the t-test. The results of the analysis show a p-value of 0.013 < 0.05, so it can be concluded that the Discovery Learning model supplemented with animated story videos is effective in improving fifth-grade students’ ability to identify the moral values in short stories
