Abstract

Science literacy in early childhood is a fundamental competency that develops progressively through the interaction of cognitive, sociocultural, and ecological factors. This study aimed to describe the science literacy competencies of children aged 5–6 years and to interpret their developmental patterns from the integrated perspectives of Piaget, Vygotsky, and Bronfenbrenner. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, involving 32 early childhood education (PAUD/TK) teachers in Padang Lawas Regency. Data were collected using a science literacy assessment instrument and analyzed through descriptive statistics, including means, standard deviations, frequency distributions, and percentages, across six science literacy indicators: observing, classifying, questioning, predicting, exploring, and communicating findings. The results indicated that the overall level of children's science literacy was categorized as good (M = 2.75, on a 4-point scale). The highest score was obtained for the ability to classify and compare objects (M = 3.28, very good), whereas the lowest scores were found in making simple predictions (M = 2.25, fair) and communicating observation results (M = 2.44, fair). From a multiperspective theoretical analysis, these developmental patterns can be understood through the complementary contributions of Piaget's cognitive development theory, Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, and Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory. Furthermore, the local natural environment was identified as an important ecological resource that supports the integration of these theoretical perspectives in fostering young children's science literacy.

Abstract

This research investigated the effect of the Papan Penjumlahan Bersusun (PAJUSUN) media on mathematics learning outcomes and examined changes in students' achievement before and after its implementation in column addition lessons among second-grade students at SD Negeri 7 Lebak, Jepara. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed. The participants were 25 second-grade students. Data were obtained through achievement tests administered prior to and following the learning intervention. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-sample t-test. The findings indicated an increase in students' mathematics achievement after learning with the Papan Penjumlahan Bersusun (PAJUSUN) media. The mean score improved from 45.8 on the pretest to 80.6 on the posttest. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the two measurements (p < 0.001). The effect size analysis produced a Cohen's d value of 3.54, indicating a very large educational effect. The use of Papan Penjumlahan Bersusun (PAJUSUN), which was developed from recycled wood waste materials, helped students engage with column addition concepts through concrete learning experiences. Therefore, the PAJUSUN media has the potential to be utilized as an effective learning medium for mathematics instruction in elementary schools.

Abstract

Teaching Pancasila values in the early grades is pedagogically challenging because the concepts are abstract, whereas children aged 6-8 learn most effectively through concrete, joyful, social, and contextual experiences. This qualitative case study examined the implementation of Playful Civic Learning in early-grade Pancasila Education, students' experiences in understanding and enacting values, and the teacher's pedagogical role. The study was conducted at SDN Lemahbang, Bendo District, Magetan Regency, in November 2025, involving the principal, two early-grade teachers, and Grade I-II students. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of teaching modules, student work, teacher reflection notes, and classroom activities. Data were analyzed thematically using the interactive procedures of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that Playful Civic Learning was implemented through social role-play, interactive value-based storytelling, classroom-rule games, simple deliberation simulations, value songs and movements, concrete media, and recurring classroom routines. The approach made Pancasila values more concrete, broadened student participation, and supported the emergence of early civic dispositions in everyday interactions. Teachers functioned as designers, social-linguistic scaffolders, and reflective facilitators. The study's main contribution is a five-stage conceptual cycle comprising value elicitation, meaningful play, social interaction and rule negotiation, simple value reflection, and habituation in classroom routines. The cycle explains how play, reflection, and habituation operate continuously to support the early internalization of Pancasila values.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the implementation of inclusive education in classes 2B and 3B at SD Pangudi Luhur Xaverius, Semarang City, with a focus on learning strategies to meet the diverse needs of students, challenges in creating a conducive learning environment, and the efforts of teachers to overcome these challenges. Using qualitative research methods with a case study type, data were collected thru interviews with the principal, class teachers, and students of classes 2B and 3B, observations, and documentation. The data validity technique used is source triangulation by comparing information from different sources with the aim of obtaining a more comprehensive data conclusion. The data analysis technique used is data collection thru interviews, observations, and documentation, data reduction, data presentation, as well as conclusion and verification. The research results show that teachers implement constructivist-based learning thru adaptive learning media, peer tutoring, and differentiation of content, process, and product. Teachers face obstacles in implementing inclusive education, such as creating a conducive learning environment and simultaneously meeting the diverse learning needs of students. To overcome these obstacles, teachers make efforts by collaborating with regular students to become peer tutors for special needs students and integrating techniques or teaching methods that support task differentiation for special needs students. Based on the research findings, the implementation of inclusive education demonstrates good constructivist practices, but systemic support is still needed for sustainability.

Abstract

Students’ reading interest still faces many challenges, even though literacy programs have been implemented in schools. In reality, reading is often treated as an academic task rather than a meaningful activity. Many students read only when they have tests or assignments, which shows that their motivation is mostly external. As a result, their inner motivation to read has not fully developed. This study aims to understand reading interest from students’ own perspectives, especially how they experience reading in their daily lives. It not only focuses on how often students read, but also how they feel and give meaning to literacy activities. This research uses a qualitative case study conducted in a sixth-grade class at SDN Klagen Sukodono, Sidoarjo. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and then analyzed with respect to the affective, behavioral, cognitive, and social aspects of reading engagement. The findings show that students are more engaged when reading is enjoyable and supported by good habits, helpful strategies, and a positive learning environment. However, their reading habits are still inconsistent and often depend on external support. Therefore, fostering students’ intrinsic motivation requires a more meaningful and supportive literacy environment.

Abstract

This study addresses the deficiencies in Pancasila Education learning outcomes and motivation among fifth graders at SD N 1 Susukan. Initial data indicated that student scores fell short of the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria (KKTP) due to conventional teaching models, unengaging media, and low classroom participation. To tackle this, the research investigates the deployment of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model coupled with monopoly game media. Conducted as a two-cycle Classroom Action Research (CAR), this study utilizes a mixed qualitative-quantitative descriptive approach. Data were harvested from 28 fifth-grade students via observation, motivational questionnaires, achievement tests, and documentation, then evaluated using descriptive statistics and qualitative techniques. The intervention proved highly effective; student motivation climbed from 71% (Cycle I) to 85% (Cycle II), and achievement proficiency rose from 62.50% to 82.14%. Ultimately, the combination of PBL and monopoly media significantly bolsters fifth-grade student achievement and motivation in Pancasila Education.
