Abstract

Mathematics learning on plane geometry area in elementary schools still faces challenges related to students’ low conceptual understanding, as instruction often emphasizes procedural use of formulas. This condition raises the question of how learning media can be developed to support students in constructing a better understanding of plane geometry area concepts. This study aims to develop and analyze the effectiveness of constructivism-based interactive PowerPoint learning media in improving elementary school students’ understanding of plane geometry area. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The learning media were implemented with 17 randomly selected fifth-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through pretest and posttest and analyzed using the normalized gain (N-Gain). The results indicate an improvement in students’ conceptual understanding, with the average pretest score increasing from 50.12 to 69.18 in the posttest. The obtained N-Gain value of 0.38 falls into the moderate category. These findings suggest that constructivism-based interactive PowerPoint media can be used as an alternative learning medium to support students’ understanding of plane geometry area concepts more effectively.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms or characteristics of intrinsic motivation and identify the typology of intrinsic motivation among elementary school students with kinesthetic learning styles. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects were fourth grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 5 Porong who had a tendency toward kinesthetic learning styles. The result show that students’ intrinsic motivation is evident through their intiative to learn, freedom of self expression, perseverance in completing tasks, and ability to choose learning methods that suit their comfort level. In addition, three types of intrinsic motivation were found, namely active independence, competence and perseverance, and social collaboration. These findings indicate that students’ intrinsic motivation develops when their needs for autonomy, competence, and social connectedness are met through practice-based learning. This study is expected to serve as a reference for teachers in designing learning that is in line with the characteristic of studentss’ learning styles.

Abstract

The quality of mathematical problem construction plays a crucial role in supporting meaningful problem-solving learning. However, errors in both mathematical reasoning and grammatical structure are still frequently found in problems designed by prospective teachers. This research focuses on analyzing the patterns of mathematical and grammatical errors in problem-solving tasks based on local wisdom constructed by prospective elementary school teachers. A qualitative research design based on document analysis was employed in this study. The data consisted of 225 essay-type problems created by 45 students in a mathematics problem-solving course. Data were analyzed through close reading, coding, categorization, interpretation, and reconstruction of the problems. The findings reveal that errors were predominantly related to modeling, misconceptions of terminology, inappropriate strategy selection, and inaccuracies in mathematical notation. In addition, grammatical issues such as ambiguity, inconsistent terminology, and imprecise logical connectors were found to contribute significantly to misinterpretation and flawed mathematical reasoning. These results indicate that language and mathematical structure are closely interconnected in problem construction. Strengthening prospective teachers’ competencies in both mathematical modeling and linguistic precision is therefore essential to improve the validity and effectiveness of assessment instruments.
