The Ombilin Sawahlunto Coal Mine World Heritage management requires a strong legal basis to guide the parties involved. This is because multiple parties, such as local governments, central governments, BUMN, and community ownership, own various world heritage sites, objects, and properties. The legal study in this paper presents the results of mapping the legislation, authority, ownership, and challenges in its management by the Management Agency that needs to be formed. With a strong legal basis, it will be able to support various steps in managing this world heritage in the future.

Abstract

Based on a report by Van Lier (1917), it was written that the Sawahlunto community had utilized coal exposed to the surface as fuel for cooking long before the exploitation and exploration activities by the Dutch East Indies Government. The term used for the coal was charcoal tongue (daagzoom), and the community used boats on the Ombilin River to sell the commodity to South Sawahlunto. Based on historical records from PT Bukit Asam, an entity that was once the largest coal mine manager in Sawahlunto in the era of independence, the species and utilization of coal increased significantly after the discovery of coal reserves around the Ombilin River, as much as 205 million tons by Willem Hendrik de Greve in 1867. Pioneering mining was carried out by the Dutch East Indies Government in 1876 and began operating in 1891, with production records in 1892 of 48 thousand tons and peak production in 1995 of 1.2 million tons based on data from PT Bukit Asam. Of the many mining business permits (IUP) managed by several companies, both state-owned and private, several former mining areas have been appropriately reclaimed and become tourist areas. However, some former mining areas need to be appropriately managed and have turned into critical land. On the other hand, there are several mining company assets that are currently not being utilized, as well as the Ombilin Steam Power Plant (PLTU), which is still operating using coal fuel. Is it possible to utilize critical former mining areas to plant energy crops whose harvests can be processed in such a way by a business unit into renewable fuels to be used as alternative fuels, for example, by a power plant? By doing so, it is hoped that Sawahlunto, which has long been known as a fuel producer, can maintain its status as a Fuel Producer. This article will present this potential, including stakeholders who can be involved in realizing it.

Listening is not only related to the use of spoken language but also written language. Languages of propaganda used by Israel in fighting against Palestinians are as follows. First, figures of speech based on sentence structure are climax, anticlimax, parallelism, antithesis, and repetition. Second, figures of speech based on the directness or indirectness of meaning include euphemism, pleonasm and tautology, erotesis or rhetorical question, hyperbole, prolepsis or anticipation, chiasmus, assidenton, correction or epanorthosis, figurative language, metaphor, metonymy, allusion, irony, cynicism, and sarcasm. The language of propaganda influences psychology and culture. Its influence on psychology can be seen in the psychology of Palestinian people affected by the war and the psychology of readers reading news that is terrible, sadistic, and full of fear. Then, the effects on culture is the attitude of many consumers who boycott Israeli products; in the security field, the high level of crime and insecurity in the Palestinian territories and surrounding areas; the high number of muallaf (converts) and interest in leading Islam due to the attitude and morals of the Palestinians who are steadfast in facing the war; and high solidarity in helping Palestinians. Moreover, it also influences the language, namely new words, symbol language, and expressions used during the war.

Abstract

Literary works have an essence as a medium of communication between the author and the reader. Authors write their creative ideas based on their experiences and record the dynamics of the society around them. In general, the author raised some characteristics, both in storytelling techniques and the use of local language as an identity. This study aims to reveal the phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing in Mahfud Ikhwan's "Kambing dan Hujan" and analyze the ideology behind the language phenomenon. The Indonesian language, the language of unity, is considered less able to be an agency in carrying the local nuances displayed in the novel. Switching and mixing languages in cultural dialogue further shows an ideological process in creating a work. The results show that localized words such as "mindo, wedding, monggo, mbok, rek, cak" and others in the novel are considered more capable and represent the delivery of cultural messages more comprehensively. The local language is retained because if it is replaced with Indonesian, it is considered less able to convey the essence because of the change in meaning. In addition, the phenomenon of code-switching and mixing with local languages can also be a strategy to maintain the cultural meaning of the story.

Abstract

This descriptive-qualitative research is a comparative linguistic study that applies Qualitative-Comparative Analysis (QCA), which compares Minangkabau and Korean languages in the scope of phonology. The data for this research are of the two languages' sound units, phonemes, and words. The data sources were eight informants who were active speakers of the Minangkabau and Korean languages. Data were extracted through digital interviews by applying the listening method and the derivative of the participatory observation method through recording and note-taking techniques. The note-taking technique was conducted through the transcription method, which includes orthographic, phonetic, and phonemic transcriptions that utilize the IPA alphabet as a transcription standardization. This research focuses on finding the natural similarities and differences in the two languages' consonant, vowel, and diphthong phonemes to assist Minangkabau speakers in learning Korean. The study results show that Minangkabau and Korean languages have a series of similarities and differences in vowel, consonant, and diphthong phonemes. The similarities found are that these languages share the same five vowels, three diphthongs, and 10 consonants. The differences are that the two languages construct different distribution patterns and correspondence of consonants. In contrast, in the Minangkabau language, the voiced and voiceless sounds are of two different phonemes, while in Korean, they are of the same phonemes. In addition, there are also differences in the correspondence and distribution of consonants in various positions in the word.

Abstract

Magical realism is a branch of science that is still relevant to be discussed today. Defocalization, which is a strategy of magical realism, is one of the ways to define a magical realism narrative by using a distinctive strategy in its storytelling style. Two forms found in the defocalization strategy are focalization switching and narrator ambiguity. The purpose of this study is to reveal the shift of focalization which then affects the ambiguity of the narrator. The theory used is magical realism by Wendy B. Faris by highlighting the Defocalization section. The novel Seperti Dendam, Rindu Harus Dibayar Tuntas has two forms of defocalization strategies and narrator ambiguity as part of the defocalization strategy offered in the form of ambiguous dialogue narration. From the switch of focalization, the ambiguity of the narrator emerges, which makes the narrative more confusing. This study found that in this novel several narratives contain focalization switches which then cause ambiguity in the position of the narrator. However, the novel also asserts that the switch of focalization and ambiguity of the narrator are not influenced by something magical because the role of the narrator and the character is more than the role of something else (magical).

Abstract

This study explores the motivation of introverted students in learning English at SMA Yadika Langowan. The purpose of this study is to describe the influence of introverted traits on learning motivation as well as to identify factors that motivate introverted students in learning English. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach as proposed by Creswell. In addition, this study uses Albert Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory to analyze learning motivation and Carl Gustav Jung's personality theory to identify the characteristics of introverted students. The research data were taken from 4 introverted students at SMA Yadika Langowan. The results show that firstly introverted students tend to be more comfortable learning independently, and their level of confidence depends on their understanding of the material. Secondly, internal and external factors also play a role in motivating introverted students. The internal factors include self-efficacy, preference for independence, learning goals, and encouragement to get out of their comfort zone. The external factors include environmental factors, social support, comments, and judgment, as well as the presence of role models, which play an important role in increasing introverted students' learning motivation. The findings provide insights into learning strategies that are more suitable for introverted students in English language learning.
