Abstract

This article as a literature review aims to find out the importance of applying the Problem Based Learning model in the process of learning mathematics. Teaching and learning activities so far still use the conventional model, where the teacher dominates the learning process in the classroom. Thus, students only receive the information conveyed by the teacher. As a result, in the learning process students tend to be passive. This is due to the lack of understanding of students in mathematics. Therefore, the process of learning mathematics in elementary schools needs active interaction between teachers and students. The teacher does not dominate when learning, it takes active involvement of students in the learning process. Based on this, to be able to create an active learning process, teachers need to increase creativity in learning, one of which is by holding variations in teaching so that an active and fun learning process is created so that students can be motivated in learning by using the Problem Based Learning model in learning mathematics in elementary schools that can stimulate students' curiosity in learning.

Abstract

Abstract

Based on the results of the author's observations of grade 1 students at SD N 02 Giriwondo, the results of 62% of students' scores are still below the KKM. From the results of observations during the learning process of mathematics on addition and subtraction as many as 8 students out of 13 students scored below the KKM, during learning 31% were active, 46% were less active and 23% were not active during the learning process, the researcher used a conventional learning model with the lecture method. The research conducted was a class action research. This research uses several data collection techniques including tests, observation, and documentation. Data collection was carried out through the stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results showed that student learning outcomes increased as seen from the acquisition of average scores that met the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) standards, starting from the pre-cycle of 70 and in cycle 1 it increased to 75 while in cycle 2 it increased  to 81.

Abstract

This study describes the role of teachers in terms of teachers' pedagogical abilities in implementation and the obstacles experienced in applying problem-based learning models to critical thinking skills. Research focus: 1) identify teacher planning and implementation in the application of problem-based learning models on critical thinking skills in terms of pedagogic competence. 2) Describe the challenges faced by teachers and students in the application of critical thinking skills. 3) Solutions that can be done by teachers in implementing problem-based learning models on critical thinking skills. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques of interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The result of this study is that teachers in planning learning objectives in RPP have not contained critical skill indicators. Teachers can empower students' critical thinking skills, as facilitators teachers can improve classroom management skills to achieve learning goals. Group discussion forums can be an alternative solution to the challenges faced by teachers and students in optimize critical thinking skills. Abstract
