The Indonesian Journal of Social Studies was founded in 2018 in order to offer the disciplines in the field of social science education a representative scholarly publication. Abstract

Along with the development of science, advances in technology can no longer be denied. Humans are competing to create the latest innovations to improve their quality of life. Technological progress occurs when a person uses tools and intelligence to solve every problem he faces. B.J. Habiebie (1983: 14). This technological advancement has a considerable influence on various aspects of human life, one of which is on the socio- cultural aspect of the human being himself. The influence obtained is of course not only in the form of positive things but also can be in the form of negative things that change the order of human life in society.The data collection method used in this study is the internet searching method.

Abstract

Fatherless can be interpreted as a child who grows and develops without the presence of a father, or a child who has a father but the father does not play a maximum role in the child's development process, in other words, parenting. Indonesia itself is said to rank third in the world as a country with the most fatherless children. This is mostly caused by death leading to orphans, but if his absence is caused by departure from his role as a father, then the child can be said to be orphaned prematurely, a divorce, separation due to problems in the marital relationship, or problems health. This writing uses a qualitative approach with the library research method (literary study) as secondary data. The results of the study show that fatherless has many impacts on children, namely identity crises, children's sexual development, and psychological disorders in children in adulthood.

Abstract

This paper examines the ripple effects of flooding on the roles and economic activities of women in Isoko- Nation, flood-prone areas that exhibit low-lying plain that resides on the coaster region of Delta State. The region attracts high population due to flooding fluvial deposits on the flood plains that serve as fertilizer to boost agricultural activities of the people. Consequent upon this, the socioeconomic development of the region is facing reversing years of progress, socially and economically in response to the rippling effects thus crippling effective and sustainable role of the women. The situation is worsened by lack of infrastructural facilities to encourage alternative income earning activities. And the dearth of the women socio-economic status means the dearth of socio-economic development of the region therefore the need to severe the women from the rippling flood effects is vital to the sustainable development of the region. Therefore the paper discussed the implications of the downgrading and reversed economic activities of the women on the sustainable development in the region and noted that though the annual flooding occurrence in the region cannot be completely eliminated however the associated disasters can be mitigated and the rippling effects reduced. The paper recommends that a proper understanding of the season and dynamic climatic trends of the region will create conscious knowledge on the mitigation strategies to reduce the unprecedented effect of incessant flooding and ginger the effort of the government to fulfill its commitment of improving the quality of lives and standard of living in Isoko-nation. The study substantiate that provision of infrastructure would energize the women whose socio-economic status is on the decline to embrace alternative source of income that would revive their hope and faith in the economy of the region.

Abstract

The Agency Theory was extensively covered in this study. The investigation used secondary data from books and articles that had already been published. Despite objections, changes in the government, and reservations from some sections of the public, the agency theory has proven to be a useful paradigm in enhancing public accountability and improving the delivery of public services. Local government councils in Delta State may benefit from applying agency theory, which can enhance the provision of public services, employee performance, administrative accountability in the public sector, and public confidence in elected officials. The majority of public administration research reflects agent theory-related presumptions that support public administrators' capacity for learning and effectiveness. As a result of the aforementioned, it is crucial for Delta State's local government council leaders to strictly adhere to accountability in the management of local government affairs in order to encourage quality service delivery. The study comes to the conclusion that in Nigerian public administration, administrative accountability is a crucial but underdeveloped concept. The phrase is freely used by academics and professionals to refer to accountability for one's actions or behavior. Administrators and organizations are responsible in the sense that they must account for their actions. Beyond this fundamental idea of answerability, the term has not undergone much development in Delta State's local government councils.

Abstract

This paper looks at the contributions worker unions have made to ensuring prompt promotions for workers, the regular delivery of training programs for workers, and the extent to which effective labour unionism has ensured the prompt payment of pensions and gratuities to retirees in Nigeria. The study's theoretical framework was the pluralism theory by Flanders and Fox (1970). Secondary sources were used to collect the data. On the produced materials, contextual analyses were conducted. The results of the study showed that due to the difficult political environment in the nation, Nigeria has not had effective unionism over the years. Because of this, it is uncommon for employer support employee welfare programs like job security, prompt promotion with commensurate financial benefits, regular training programs, and pension and gratuity benefits to be provided. All of these have caused employees across Nigerian government institutions to experience hunger, poverty, and a lack of motivation to carry out their assigned duties. The researcher suggested that labour unions in Nigeria, among other things, should persuade government institutions to ensure adequate provision of workers welfare in order to improve the socioeconomic wellbeing of the workers and toward higher performance in the organizations; unions should seek redress in industrial court with regards to any infringement on the rights of any worker in Nigeria as this has produced results in the past.

Abstract

This study examined the United Nations and the Russia-Ukraine conflict with special focus on the mediation role of the United Nations in the face of the conflict. It painstakingly analyzed the root causes of the Russia-Ukraine Conflict from State, Regional and Global perspectives. The study adopted the historical research design which accounted for the qualitative nature of the data analysis. It also adopted the conflict theoretical framework in analyzing the variables of the study. The study found out that the realpolitik of the 5 permanent (P5) members of the Security Council has rendered the United Nations impotent in resolving conflicts. Amongst others, the study recommends that effort should be made by the United Nations to check the overbearing Cold War mentality between Russia and America. It further recommends that the UN should step down its mediation role and allow other critical actors with relatively neutral posture such as China, Turkey, India, South Africa etc to mediate with a view to achieving rapprochement between Russia and Ukraine.

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh banyaknya guru yang mengajar hanya untuk memberikan informasi atau penjelasan materi saja, sehingga pembelajaran yang disampaikan menjadi kurang bermakna. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk meneliti kualitas kompetensi guru dalam penerapan pendekatan kontekstual pada pembelajaran IPS di SMP Negeri 2 Ciwaringin, Kabupaten Cirebon. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain penelitian studi deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) Proses pelaksanaan pembelajaran IPS yang dilakukan oleh guru di sekolah tersebut telah menerapkan pengetahuan kontekstualnya untuk dikembangkan dalam kegiatan pembelajaran IPS, walaupun pada RPP guru belum menuliskannya secara rinci. 2) Faktor yang mempengaruhi proses pelaksanaan kegiatan pembelajaran IPS yaitu penguasaan guru, kebutuhan peserta didik, sarana dan prasarana yang memadai. 3) Masalah utama yang dihadapi oleh guru dalam penerapan pendekatan kontekstual ialah keterbatasan waktu, selain itu pada kegiatan pembelajaran IPS yang dilakukan dengan pendekatan kontekstual, nampak begitu jelas antara peserta didik yang memiliki kemampuan tinggi dan peserta didik yang memiliki kemampuan kurang, sehingga kemudian menimbulkan rasa tidak percaya diri bagi peserta didik lain yang kurang kemampuannya. Adapun upaya yang dapat dilakukan oleh guru dalam mengatasi kendala tersebut ialah guru dapat terus belajar dan memperdalam ilmunya untuk menggunakan strategi dan metode belajar yang lebih bervariasi.Kata Kunci: Pendekatan kontekstual, pembelajaran IPS, kompetensi guru

Abstract

This paper spotlights the rising concern of youths exhibiting violent behaviour. The scope is on cultivation and social learning theories linked to and rationalizing media content as catalysts of violent behaviour among the youths. With the aid of primary data sources for analysis, 180 questionnaires were printed and distributed to senior school students in Abraka metropolis. 178 filled questionnaires came back but 2 were incomplete so were discarded. 176 were used. Cultivation theory was identified as a theory that incites learning and practicing what a person sees on television while the social learning theory points out observation, imitation, and modeling as ways of learning. Empirical studies were also reviewed to establish other researchers’ views and their findings were scrutinized in line with this paper on how media content encourages copycatting into real life. The researchers made some recommendations to the government, media houses, and institutions of learning but, specifically to the youths to be more responsible and selective of the content they expose themselves to and consume or to be ready to face immediate and severe punishment if found guilty of violent behaviour.

Abstract

Pembelajaran berbasis proyek direkomendasikan pada kurikulum merdeka dengan kegiatan belajar mengajar yang dirancang untuk membuat guru dan siswa terlibat aktif. Kekhawatiran lain muncul dalam penerapan metode pembelajaran berbasis proyek yaitu adanya social loafing atau pemalasan sosial yang ditandai dengan usaha individu yang tidak maksimal mengerjakan tugas di dalam kelompok. Tujuan penelitian ini mencari pengaruh pembelajaran berbasis proyek terhadap penurunan social loafing siswa dalam mata pelajaran IPS kelas 7 di SMP Negeri 29 Bandung dengan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif metode korelasional. Peneliti menggunakan instrumen atau penyebaran angket kepada sampel sebesar 170 orang yang tersebar di kelas VII menggunakan teknik probability sampling. Hasil pengolahan data dari penelitian ini mengandung arti bahwa adanya pengaruh positif yang signifikan project-based learning terhadap penurunan social loafing. Pengaruh project-based learning berkontribusi sebesar 56.4% terhadap penurunan social loafing di SMP Negeri 29 Bandung dan sisanya sebesar 43.6% dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain. Implikasi dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran berbasis proyek bisa menjadi salah satu alternatif untuk menurunkan social loafing di dalam kelas.

Abstract

The success of population control programs at the national level should be equitable across all provinces in Indonesia. However, differences in characteristics between regions and decentralization policies implemented by each local government have led to significant TFR disparities in each province in Indonesia. Long-acting contraceptives are considered effective as the main requirement to reduce the rate of population increase. The government has set targets to reduce the TFR and ensure equitable distribution of family planning programs throughout Indonesia. The equitable distribution of family planning programs will have an impact on reducing the birth rate. This study aims to see how contextual factors can reduce fertility through the use of contraceptive methods in Indonesia. The result of this study is that the percentage of women who use long-acting contraceptive methods has the largest effect on reducing TFR at -0.562, while the number of family planning villages and HDI have an effect of -0.12 and -0.36 on reducing TFR in Indonesia.
