Abstract

This study aimed to prove the factors that influence elementary school students’ interest in using the Google Classroom platform. This study also used a technology acceptance model (TAM) theory approach by adding external variables, namely motivation and habit, to the study. The survey method was conducted to collect data from 209 elementary school students. We analyzed the data using the structural equation modeling (SEM) PLS 3.0 application. The study’s results showed that one hypothesis was rejected: Motivation had no significant effect on perceived usefulness. In contrast, the other seven hypotheses had a significant positive effect. Research suggested that the habit factor fits the theoretical approach of the TAM model.

Abstract

Teachers, parents, and students have had difficulty with character development exercises in online learning programs. Students’ character quality has suffered as a result of these issues. This study described the essence of reading fondness, learning discipline, and social care in developing the students’ character development. In addition, this study also aimed to analyze the role of teachers and parents in character development during the online learning process. Students, teachers, and parents provided information via online questionnaires and interviews. Descriptive quantitative analysis, thematic analysis, and reflective thinking were used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that teachers and parents faced challenges that impacted student character quality. Teachers and parents have limited opportunities to shape a students’ character. Instead, they must collaborate to develop it. The limitation of this study lies in the online data collection process, thus suggesting the need to use a more in-depth method to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the case.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the simulation-based learning model using “e-archive” technology in the archiving subject in the vocational school of management program. A randomized pretest-posttest control group design and 144 students from Central Java, Indonesia were employed in this quasi-experimental study. The data were analyzed by using the independent sample t-test to determine whether there was a significant mean difference between the experimental class and the control class. The results of this study indicated that the experimental class with the simulation-based learning model using e-archive technology gets better scores than the control class using the conventional learning model. The pretest t-test results in a score of 0.139, while the posttest results in a score of 0.000. We concluded that the simulation-based learning model using e-archive technology is effective and suitable for use in vocational schools, with implications for enhancing student learning results.

Abstract

Student’s collaboration skills are still low while this skill is important for students. The selection of an active learning model is an attempt to overcome this problem. This study aimed to investigate the effects of problem based learning (PBL) and integrated PBL digital mind maps (DMM) on university students’ collaboration skills. This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest control group design. The participants consisted of 103 students majoring in biology education from Riau, Indonesia. Each of the classes was randomly picked to act as the PBL group, integrated PBL-DMM group, and traditional group. The students’ collaboration skills were observed using an observation sheet which contained aspects of responsibility, respect, contribution, organize work and work as a whole team. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of covariance (ANACOVA) and least significance different (LSD) test. The ANACOVA results demonstrated some significant changes in both comparison groups: PBL and integrated PBL-DMM. In other word, learning models had an effect on students’ collaboration skills. However, the LSD test proved that both learning models were not significantly different in improving students’ collaboration skills, despite the fact that the students in the integrated PBL-DMM model class could perform better than those of PBL. Therefore, educators may either use PBL or integrated PBL-DMM in the classroom.

Abstract

The modular approach has been proven to be an effective tool in mathematics learning. However, this approach presents challenges regarding students’ learning. Hence, this study was conducted to determine and compare the modular experiences of 55 Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) Math students of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) Salcedo based on gender, age, and year level. The study utilized a descriptive-comparative design and a survey questionnaire. Percentage, mean, t-test, and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to treat the data. The study revealed that respondents were satisfied with their modular experience in learning mathematics in the new normal education. Specifically, the respondents rated their experience satisfactory in good teaching, high in clear outcomes, manageable in appropriate workload, moderate in appropriate assessment, and average in generic skills. Furthermore, the study found a significant difference in good teaching, clear outcomes, appropriate workload, appropriate assessment, generic skills, and satisfaction with modular learning across the respondents’ year level, but insignificant across age and gender. Based on the findings, it is recommended that teachers should attend intensive seminars and training on current trends in math teaching and module development. Modules’ quality must be improved considering the workload, assessment, outcomes, and skills development.

Abstract

Dyslexia is often described as the most common learning disability among the students that affect their ability to read and write. Children with dyslexia persist to their reading difficulties into adolescence and adulthood if without effective intervention and instruction. Therefore, this paper aims to review on the current state of available interventions for children with dyslexia in Malaysia and compare the interventions conducted outside Malaysia instead of to identify the frequently used for assistive technology tools in improving literacy skills. A total of 30 articles published between 2009 and 2021 that met the inclusive criteria were downloaded from electronic databases such as Scopus, SpringerLink and ScienceDirect. The interventions were divided into two categories which are phonological-based and assistive technology-based. The findings indicated that most of the interventions are focused on assistive technology tools and mobile learning applications become the favorite choice in Malaysia to assist students with dyslexia in ameliorating their learning difficulties. However, the developed mobile learning applications are not focused on teaching phonics and combined all three language skills (reading, spelling, and writing) in an application. Hence, it is imperative that researchers in Malaysia take into account to develop more mobile learning applications that focus on English language phonics and encompass three language skills (reading, spelling and writing) in an application for students with dyslexia.

Abstract

E-learning has become an important aspect of university education. System evaluation must be carried out by higher education management to identify the number of e-learning successes and future improvement efforts. Three research methodologies were used in this study to measure, classify, and translate service quality into an improvement process, namely SERVQUAL, Kano model, and quality functional deployment (QFD). A survey involving 219 UPN “Veteran” Jakarta students as e-learning users were done to examine the developed methodology. The partial least square (PLS) method was used to process the data. This study employed the quantitative method. Website content, assurance, empathy, responsiveness, tangibles, reliability, and learning content are variables in this approach. This study provided knowledge on identifying and analyzing the quality of e-learning services using the service quality (SERVQUAL) method by calculating the score gap between the perceived service quality assessment (performance) and the expected service quality using website content, assurance, empathy research variables, responsiveness, tangibles, reliability, learning content, e-learning quality, satisfaction, and behavioral intention. This study also evaluates what improvements can be made to improve the quality of e-learning services.
